Louise Duffy's mother had an advance directive, or living will, which stated she did not wish to be treated if she had severe loss of physical or mental capacity. But when she suffered a severe stroke, Louise says medical staff ignored her mother's wishes, and continued treatment. Her mother, Barbie Duffy died 58 days later, after refusing food and, finally, fluids. Louise Duffy has started a petition, calling for a national register of advanced directives, to strengthen current systems and give plans and people more certainty. She tells her mother's story to Susie Ferguson, who also speaks with Medico legal lawyer Nick Laing - with Duncan Cotterill, Nelson.

Ayer a las 9 y 48 recibimos la llamada del señor Wilimberto Taveras Rodríguez de quien en la mañana denunciamos la apropiación irregular de una zona del área protegida de Loma de Novillero. Aunque nos planteamos entrevistar al señor Taveras Rodriguez esta tarde en El Patio es de rigor profesional decir lo que por la vía telefónica nos comunicó. Respecto a su condición de Médico del presidente esgrimida como título o rango de poder por sus trabajadores, nos dijo que alguna vez le prestó servicios médicos al ex presidente Hipólito Mejía. En segundo lugar que adquirió los terrenos del área protegida, en la gestión de Bauta Rojas, de manos de un hijo del fallecido diputado Eladio Pérez y tercero que el no era quien estaba instalando el tendido eléctrico que lleva la energía a su casa, aunque es la única casa que hay en la cima del Novillero. Cuando le reclamé al ciudadano que no podía limitar el acceso público a un área protegida me dijo que si hubiera sabido que yo iba daba las instrucciones para que se nos diera paso y que los trabajadores que insistentemente decían que era la casa del Medico del presidente no eran personas instruidas. Esta tarde esperamos más explicaciones. Una no entiende cómo la familia de Eladio Pérez pudo tener los títulos de una parcela de montaña que antes perteneció al CeA y que se convirtió en área protegida junto a la loma de los siete picos por la importancia que tiene para los sistemas Haina y Duey que abastecen de agua el norte de la capital y venderla como herencia pero aquí todo es posible. Los ataques a la loma de novillero vienen de distintos frentes y es evidente que la reserva que logró sobrevivir a las hordas del diputado Manuel Díaz está lejos del verdor de su momento de mayor apogeo. Ahorita le mostraré las fotos que un televidente amablemente tomó desde distintos ángulos de la montana. Nuestras investigaciones de ayer indican que las intervenciones de suelo fueron realizadas en el año 2020 por lo que el encargado de medio Ambiente pidió una sanción administrativa que no sabemos si se cumplió pero está la prueba de la solicitud. En octubre de ese año el señor Rodriguez fue sometido a la justicia por ilícitos ambientales pero según las fuentes de VA la procuraduría de medio ambiente no se interesó en seguir el caso. Entre las imputaciones que se le hacen a Taveras Rodríguez figuran la construcción de un camino de 1,700 metros de largo por 15 de ancho, realizar un corte de 1.5 metros de profundidad y la construcción de un estanque de 30 metros cuadrados, dentro del área protegida. Ayer hablamos con el ministro de Medio Ambiente que nos dijo que hoy enviaría un equipo para ver la situación y obviamente creo que todos y todas debemos comprometernos con la salvaguarda de la loma a ver si podemos dejarle algo a los nietos y nietas.
