We're back for the first episode of the “Weekly Whitetail Report” on this episode the first October cold front is moving throughout the country with huge temperature drops. It's got everyone in the country excited and we dive into what these guys are seeing throughout the country from deer movement, what food source deer are eating, and where they will be setup for this next week. Hopefully you guys enjoy these segments I know y'all did last year and expect to see one of these drop every week of the season!!
On this week of The Weekly Whitetail Report I'm joined by 4 guest that are hunting 4 completely different types of Whitetails. 1st guest is Tyler Wilbur who's a team member on the Whitetail Bloodline. He's hunting mountain Whitetails in Pennsylvania which is known for the large numbers of hunters which also brings some of the most pressure in the entire county. Lots of pre rut activity and it's getting fired up in Pennsylvania leading into this week. 2nd guest is Angelo Giannoni who is also a Whitetail Bloodline Team and he lives in the concrete jungle of Chicago but spends his free type managing his newly bought property and chasing chasing Illinois farm country Whitetails. Angelo has been seeing a lot of pre rut sign and has seen young bucks chasing but is still waiting for it to hear up a bit but he knows any day things could shift and Whitetails could start getting into rut mode hardcore. 3rd guest is John Williams who hunts swamp bucks in the Georgia swamps!! He has already shot a great buck this year and with the new intel he just got, he is going after the biggest buck he has ever had on camera. Lots of pre rut activity in Georgia and deer are on the move but typically in mornings and at last light. John is very hopefully and the rut should getting rocking in his neck of the woods very soon. Last but not least I get Jon Landwehr a Whitetail Bloodline Team member and talk central Kansas Whitetails with him. Kansas is getting fired up and Jon is starting to see a lot of bucks on their feet in daylight hours and has lots of bucks hitting scrapes right now. The next week will be a great time to be hunting Kansas Whitetails. This was a great episode with a ton of information. If you're hunting Midwest Whitetails you should be getting fired up because bucks are starting to chase, the first doe's are going into their estrous cycles, rattling and grunt calls are a great tactic to use, hunting over active scrapes is a go to this week, hunting the down wind side of doe bedding is also a great option this time of year. Bucks will start hitting the ground like no other and Scrape Week is upon us so get out there and get after it because you can't kill them on the couch!!
On this weekend episode I'm joined by Tim Palmer from Pennsylvania, Austin Stone from Missouri/Kansas, and last but not least Drew from Central Wisconsin. This is the last week of October and bucks are starting to show pre rut activity and are starting to make scrapes and rubs a lot more frequently. Lots of bucks are starting to daylight so this week will probably be the calm before the storm but still great odds of getting a big mature buck on his feet during this last week of October leading into Halloween. Acorns are still hot through most of the country and a lot of the agricultural fields have been harvested so that's also a primary food source for most of the Midwest. With the drought we're having a water source is a great place to focus on this week if there isn't an abundance of water in the area. The rut is just around the corner and the next cold front that rolls through should get things kicking and bucks should start cruising a lot more as the first few doe's of the season start coming into their breeding cycle!! Weather isn't the best this week but don't let it discourage you because bucks will be moving this week even if the weather is undesirable. Thanks so much for listening to another episode, we truly appreciate all the support and good luck to everyone chasing Whitetails this week!!
This is our first episode of our new segment (Weekly Whitetail Report) I'm joined by 3 team members on this episode Jon from Kansas, Tyler from Pennsylvania, and Angelo from Illinois. We talk what we're seeing right now from hunting, driving, and our trail cameras and what we're expecting the next week of hunting. Scrapes and rubs are starting to pop up and bucks are starting to show up more on cameras. Things are starting to heat up and the pre rut is just around the corner!!!

In this episode, I chat with Matt Lynch about the lastest deer activity here in Central Illinois.
Per the QDMA Whitetail Report, hunters pursue whitetail deer more than any other species and whitetail hunters contribute financially more than any other hunter segment. Whitetails are the foundation of the hunting industry. Because of this impressive impact QDMA releases an annual report that goes deep into data and identifies trends that affect the whitetail's world and the hunters that hunt them. We thought that it only appropriate to invite Kip Adams back to discuss the highlights of this year's report, as we did last year. We plan to make it an annual event. QDMA – State of the Whitetail with Kip Adams https://www.qdma.com/buck-harvest-up-doe-harvest-down-whitetail-report-2019 ATHENS, GA (January 16, 2019) – The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) today released its 11th annual Whitetail Report, a comprehensive update on the status of white-tailed deer including deer harvest trends through the 2017-18 season, the most recent hunting season with complete deer harvest data available from most whitetail states and Canadian provinces. Overall, the national buck harvest was on the rise while antlerless harvest fell, tipping the balance in favor of bucks for the first time in eighteen years. “The total antlered buck harvest of 2,879,000 in the United States was 2% more than the previous season, and 23 of 36 states increased their buck harvest,” said Kip Adams, QDMA Director of Conservation. “On the contrary, antlerless harvest was down slightly to 2,827,288. One state’s data did not arrive and was not included in this analysis, but it appears the national buck harvest exceeded the antlerless harvest in the 2017-18 season for the first time since 1998.” Looking at the age structure of the buck harvest, yearlings (1½ years old) remained at record low harvest levels around 35% while harvest of 3½-year-old and older bucks remained high at 34%. “It’s amazing to realize that one of every three antlered bucks shot in the US is at least 3½ years old when it was one in every five only fifteen years before,” said Adams.

White-tailed deer are arguably the most important game species in North America. Kip Adams, Wildlife Biologist and the Director of Conservation for the Quality Deer Management Association, would agree with this concept. More hunters pursue whitetail than any other species and whitetail hunters contribute more financially than and other hunter segment. But how to the numbers stack up state to state? Who’s killing the most deer? Which state kills the most does? Which state kills more bucks per square mile? Which state has the highest percentage of yearling buck kills? Which has the least? We had lots of these types of questions, and it just so happens that QDMA puts out such a booklet about this each year. So we asked Kip to break it all down for us. The 2018 Whitetail Report listed what states use to manage deer Michigan uses deer herd health, hunter opportunity, car deer accidents and crop damage. Seems as if insurance industry issues have a heavy hand in management of our deer instead of sound science. Numbers and questions can be skewed to gain any point of view that researcher wants The nation is shooting less does on a whole First time since 1999 that nation has shot more bucks than does More dead deer found on Mike's property, looks like they were starving. On this episode I chat with returning guest Justin Zarr from Bowhunting.com about the 2018 Whitetail Report put out by the Quality Deer Management Association. We dive in to the data that shows not only a decline in hunter numbers over the last 5 years, but in the amount of money hunters are spending on hunting related activities as well. Aside from the data, we discuss our personal thoughts on what we think is driving theses reduced numbers and what we think needs to be done to turn the tides to sustain our hunting tradition.
