Kentucky has millions of acres of underutilized land, a shifting energy economy, and a generation of farmers looking for what's next. Sunflower Fuels is trying to answer all three with a single crop.In this episode, Sunflower Fuels CEO Gabrielle Blocher joins us to share how the company is building a Kentucky-rooted biomass business around Miscanthus — a perennial, "fire and forget" crop that can yield for 30+ years, grow on reclaimed surface mine land, and feed multiple growing markets. We dig into the full stack of the business: the horse bedding product (Revive Animal Bedding) generating revenue today, the renewable food packaging market forming next, and the long-term vision — bioenergy with carbon capture (BECCS) and sustainable aviation fuel. Gabby explains why the real economics of BECCS live in the voluntary carbon credit market, why Sunflower Fuels pivoted in 2025, and what her Naval Academy and Marine Corps background taught her about building a real-world startup. Pruning To Prosper - Clutter, Money, Meals and Mindset for the Catholic Mom

This year we are doing my group coaching course together via this podcast! It's free and it only gets better as the year progresses.  In January we began with God at the center of our day and our home. We worked to build the habit of a morning prayer routine. I highly recommend the rosary. It's only about 20 minutes and you'll meditate on the whole life of Jesus. February is the month of decluttering. Saturday episodes have been added to focus on decluttering in the kitchen. Each month will have a different focus area and the Saturday episodes will help you focus on one small section of that room.  In March we decluttered your wardrobe. April is a month of Grocery Spending Audit and Meals We Like. Our Saturday declutter focus area is your bedroom. If you're new here, welcome and give this first episode of 2026 a listen to hear where to begin: 316. Your 2026 Life Overhaul Plan: Faith, Clutter, Debt, Diet and More!  If you've never prayed a rosary or you want to see how you can incorporate it into active decluttering, here is the first episode of my rosary declutter series from last summer. 288. Summer Declutter Series Week Just getting started on your decluttering journey? Give this episode a listen before you begin: 322. Guidelines to Decluttering ***Are you so overwhelmed with clutter that you find yourself unable to make any decisions? Do you plan on decluttering only to find yourself standing in a room confused about where to start? Are you hoping motivation will strike and you'll get it all done in one weekend? If this sounds like you, let's work together. Book a one hour virtual coaching session via Zoom. Together we craft a decluttering plan and I walk you through the process. You'll complete much of the decluttering on your own time at your own pace. I just give you the roadmap and the accountability. Cost $77 per hour. Virtual Coaching Schedule   Not sure what you need? No problem! Book a complimentary 15 minute clarity call. Most landowners overlook a simple yet powerful strategy—you can dramatically improve deer habitat and hunting success by strategically logging and creating early successional growth. In this episode, Adam Keith reveals the surprisingly straightforward approach that transformed one two-acre oak-hickory stand into a deer magnet in just four years. Amid hectic farm life, Adam shares behind-the-scenes details of a fascinating logging experiment—leaving mid-story trees to optimize deer bedding and forage while minimizing habitat disturbance. You'll discover how a gentle, targeted clear-cut, followed by prescribed burns and native grass establishment, can boost wildlife movement, increase browse, and turn your property into a thriving wildlife corridor. We break down concrete tactics: how to collaborate with loggers for small acreage, the best timing for dormant and growing season burns, and the native species that flourish when disturbance is done right. Adam discusses a native grass planting project involving big bluestem, Indian grass, and little bluestem—an effort to convert invasive-infested fields into resilient, multi-use native habitat that supports both hunting and ecology. Why does all this matter? Because in a landscape full of common misconceptions, strategic logging and habitat tweaks can unlock hidden potential—leading to healthier deer populations, better hunting, and more vibrant ecosystems. Whether you own 10 acres or 100, these insights will help you make smarter land management decisions—and see results faster. Ideal for hunters, landowners, and conservation enthusiasts looking to improve habitat and wildlife diversity, this episode reveals the proven steps to turn disturbance into growth. Discover the power of thoughtful forestry, prescribed fire, and native plantings—tools that transform your land into a wildlife sanctuary, no matter the size. Ready to learn how a few strategic cuts and burns can reshape your property's future? Tune in now and start turning your land into the habitat of your dreams.

In this bonus Booner School episode of Whitetail Edge, Ben Rising is in the field and breaks down how to improve deer bedding areas without overdoing hinge cuts or turning timber into a jungle no deer wants to use. With snow on the ground, it's easy to see exactly how deer are bedding, traveling, and staging—and this spot has been a consistent bedding area for years. The problem? It's starting to thin out, lose structure, and stop holding mature bucks the way it used to.In this video, I explain: • Why I don't hinge cut entire bedding areas • How to identify “junk trees” that are perfect for bedding structure • The concept of creating small bedding pockets or “hotel rooms” for deer • How structure, wind advantage, and visibility matter to mature bucks • Why thick doesn't always mean better when it comes to buck bedding • How strategic TSI and chainsaw work can hold deer longer during daylightInstead of laying everything over and hoping deer use it, this approach focuses on intentional structure, sunlight, browse, and security—without blowing out a sanctuary or ruining future timber value. This is real-world habitat work you can do in a few hours with one or two tanks of gas, whether you own the property or are working with permission. If you're serious about holding more does, keeping bucks bedded longer, and improving daylight movement—this is one of the simplest, most overlooked tools you can use.Let us know in the comments what you've seen work on your properties and whether you agree or disagree with this approach.

What ‘Rock Bottom’ Really Means and How It’s Keeping You Stuck

If you’re a high-functioning drinker waiting for rock bottom to give you permission to quit, this episode will change everything. Most people think rock bottom is an external event—a DUI, job loss, or divorce. But that’s not what rock bottom actually is, and this misunderstanding is keeping you stuck in a cycle that never ends. In this episode, I break down the real meaning of rock bottom and why waiting for external proof is preventing you from taking action on what you already know. You’ll learn why comparing your life to other people’s disasters keeps you drinking longer, what to listen for in recovery meetings (hint: it’s not the external details), and why the question “Do I really need to quit?” is actually your answer. What You’ll Learn: Why high-functioning drinkers misunderstand rock bottom and how it keeps them stuck The “I’m not that bad” fallacy and why comparing external circumstances is the wrong measuring stick What rock bottom actually is (internal, not external) and why it changes everything How to recognize rock bottom moments before they become major disasters Why people who don’t have a drinking problem never wonder if they need to quit The real reason your brain keeps offering alcohol as a solution when things get uncomfortable How lowering the bar and rationalizing red flags keeps the cycle going Why you don’t need to wait for things to get worse to make a change Key Takeaways: Rock bottom is internal, not external. It’s not about what happens to you—it’s about the moment you realize you can’t live like this anymore, even if your life still looks good from the outside. You’re comparing the wrong things. When you compare your life to other people’s disasters, you’ll always feel like you’re “not that bad.” But when you compare your internal experience—the exhaustion, the mental gymnastics, the constant negotiation with yourself—that’s when you recognize the real problem. External events don’t create clarity—they force action. Most dramatic rock bottom moments are years in the making. There are a million smaller red flags that get rationalized away before the big event happens. You don’t have to wait for the big event. If you’re asking the question, that’s your answer. People without drinking problems never wonder if they need to quit. They don’t think about alcohol constantly, plan their days around it, or spend energy managing and moderating it. If you’re here listening to this, you already know. Episode Highlights: [00:12] The common misunderstanding about rock bottom that keeps high-functioning drinkers stuck [02:00] Why “I’m not that bad” only works if rock bottom is external (spoiler: it’s not) [05:50] The AA meeting trap: comparing external details instead of internal feelings [09:33] What rock bottom actually is: internal, emotional, and the moment you realize you can’t live like this anymore [11:00] My two-year rock bottom and why I waited so long to take action [14:42] If you want to wait until things get worse, they will (and here’s what that looks like) [16:30] The small red flags we rationalize away that lead to bigger disasters [17:50] A client’s rock bottom moment: choosing a drink over playing with his son [19:19] Why asking “Do I really need to quit?” is actually your answer [21:31] The takeaway: You already know. Stop waiting for permission.

Hunting pine plantations in the South comes with its own set of challenges—tight visibility, rigid timber schedules, and landscapes that can feel monotonous if they're not managed intentionally. In this solo episode, Josh breaks down one of his all-time favorite projects: a 600-acre southern pine tract designed from the ground up for predictable deer movement, quality bedding, and high-value forage. Josh explains how to work with the realities of timber rotations and revenue-producing stands—leveraging first and second thinnings, prescribed fire, strategically staggered burn rotations, and purpose-built bedding and forage units. You'll learn why pine properties can be incredible hunting ground when managed with intention, how to place food plots and travel corridors that actually get used, and why “checkerboarding” your timber stand may be the missing ingredient to daylight movement. If you hunt piney woods—Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, Mississippi, Louisiana—this episode is packed with practical design, access, and hunting strategy you can use right now. This week, on the Kids Sleep Show I welcome the Founder of Truuce bedding, to share all about this amazing and innovative Duvet bedding system, that my son, 10 and father, 75 both love equally for the simplicity in creating a clean and polished look in the bedroom, without the fuss.  Nancy Johnston and Kerry Roberts are the visionary founders of Truuce, a company that combines design, research, and innovation to revolutionize bedding.   In 2023, Kerry, tired of with wrestling with her duvet cover, called her dear friend and college roommate Nancy to create a more user-friendly design.  As Nancy worked on a solution, she realized traditional sheets had their own set of problems.  This sparked a flurry of prototypes aimed at making every aspect of bedding smarter.  After several months of testing, redesigning and testing again, the integrated duvet and sheet system was ready for launch.  They decided to call it Truuce, with a mission to help everyone make peace with their bedding. Today, while functionality, architecture and design are at the heart of everything we do, we are equally cozy obsessed.   This patent-pending design has reshaped duvets and sheets and has brought bedding into the 21st century.   Episode Highlights What inspired the idea behind Truuce, and how did your own sleep experiences or family life play a role in bringing it to life? Truuce bedding rethinks how we make a bed - can you walk us through the design and why it matters for busy parents or children learning independence? How does simplifying bedtime routines through smart design influence sleep quality for families, especially in those high-stress evening hours? If a parent is looking to create a sleep-friendly bedroom but doesn't know where to start, what small changes would you suggest - Truuce or otherwise? Missy Tannen is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Boll & Branch, the luxury bedding brand that made organic, ethically made sheets a household staple.Missy's path to entrepreneurship began far from business. After eight years as a third-grade teacher, she stepped away to raise her three daughters, never imagining she would one day build one of the most successful bedding brands in the country. What started as a simple search for better sheets led Missy and her husband, Scott, to uncover an industry lacking transparency. Determined to do better, they learned everything from cotton to supply chains from scratch and launched Boll & Branch in 2014 with a mission to create beautiful, responsibly made bedding at an honest price. What began at their kitchen table has since grown into a $200 million brand, sold at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, with stores expanding nationwide. In this week's episode, Missy shares her transformation from teacher to entrepreneur, the pivotal moments that shaped Boll & Branch's early years, and how one unexpected newspaper story changed everything. We get into the scrappy stuff—wiring their savings to a factory they had never visited, making tech packs in PowerPoint, washing fabric samples in her laundry room, and missing a holiday launch after a production disaster. Missy reflects on building their supply chain from the ground up, facing zero-sales days before the brand took off overnight, and learning to balance growth, motherhood, and self-doubt while staying true to her purpose. This conversation is your reminder that you do not need experience or a roadmap to build something extraordinary, only grit, heart, and the courage to keep going.*Note from Yasmin: After five amazing years of weekly episodes, I'm shifting Behind Her Empire to an every-other-week schedule.
