Few experiences in life can be more bewildering than watching your 19-year-old daughter get suddenly, seriously ill. And then stay ill, off and on, for the next eight years. This is what happened to Debi Granger as her daughter Amera struggled with congestive heart failure, nearly dying three times. And yet. Such a time can also be when life is most inspiring, because a heart and kidney donated by a stranger ultimately saved her life. Debi tells her story, with its surprise ending, in such grace and strength it should inspire you for a long time to come. May you find her story useful as you find your way back to happiness, and what really matters in this life, yourself. This show is a replay of one of our most popular shows, #6, honoring Suzanne's late daughter Teal. If you feel stuck in life, unable to move forward or backwards, take a bit of inspiration here. Teal was a unique free spirit who felt the world was her oyster … and she rolled through it with ease, equanimity and a true lightness. Leaving behind her journals, and memories of her remarkable life, she is here to teach us: How to live with uncertainty How to find acceptance How to detach from what bothers us How to ‘just be' How to stop trying to be all things to all people May you find some fun inspiration here as Debi and I talk about Teal and her amazing life. It seems in life we are always running to catch up with something. Or someone. I don’t know about you, but I always feel just slightly behind. Yet, a lot of serenity comes from feeling that you have enough time. And that you have enough of what you need in general in life. In this show, Debi and I take on the tricky subject of managing time as a way to get back to happiness and inner peace. Among other things we cover: The power of mini habits to change your life My accountability pal and how we help each other along The magic of noting and really seeing your accomplishments How our To DO’s take over our mental space How to get out of the habit of ‘Shoulding’ on yourself May this help you rein in time a bit more so it’s on your side. Aside from just plain delightful laughs, we get a shot of inspiration from Leeanne. Her incredible perspective about major career catastrophe—the cancellation of the biggest tour of her 20 year comedy career—is nothing less than inspiring. Leeanne’s caring for her elderly parents… and how she copes How Suzanne’s relationship evolved with her siblings The importance of at least having a sight of someone’s face on Zoom How Leeanne coped with the cancellation of her 100 city tour Some perspective based on the past What her takeaways from COVID have been so far… How you can find your own takeaways Debi’s takeaway from the burning of her home in the Paradise wildfire … and what Leeanne’s learned from her wonderful fans. You can learn more about Leeanne and how to keep a little humor, and perspective in tough times, at the links below. What a fun interview! We’re sure you’re going to love it… Suzanne & Debi RESOURCES Leanne’s website Leanne’s podcast, Sweaty & Pissed MORE ABOUT LEANNE How do you describe Leanne Morgan? She sounds like a country music legend. Perhaps Loretta Lynn or Dolly Parton, but she occasionally slips into the persona of Gregory House M.D. Her crowd work often consists of showering audience members with compliments and diagnosis of a “healthy thyroid.” Morgan shares her own personal medical challenges that come with age and perimenopause. After almost two decades in the comedy business, she's shared the ups and downs of each stage of her life. For Valerie and myself, it has been a year-long goal to sit down and talk with the straight-talking Queen of “Yummy” herself.

Can you be healed by your dreams? Can they actually shift things in your subconscious. Yes, we say. Both of us have had profound dreams around major life transitions. Some of which have been so blatantly symbolic, the meaning couldn’t be missed. In some dreams, Suzanne has been teased by her daughter from the afterlife. And had the chance to connect with her son when he was on the other side of the world for a year. Debi dreamt about her house after it burned down… and it helped her heal from that trauma. If we let them, dreams can inform us about the next steps we need to take— and heal the things that are heavy in our heart. As Debi put it, ‘If you let ‘em, dreams can be very helpful…’ Also we answer Julia’s question, ‘How do I love my body?’ with some concrete ideas. And Debi shares her experience of overcoming shame about her differently formed hips and knees. Whatever is bothering you right now, may this help you get back to happy! And we’re here to help. Welcome to the podcast that aims to help you get past your struggles. What Back to Happy’s hosts offer is a little perspective, much of which they gained when Suzanne’s daughter’s heart saved Debi’s daughter’s life. Debi is also a Paradise wildfire survivor. These life-defining experiences changed both of them for the better, as they completely reinvented their lives with the wisdom of a new perspective. In fact, Suzanne’s daughter Teal wanted to be a healer before her sudden death. And today Debi’s daughter Amera actually is a healer, working in a hospital to provide people with cardio sonograms. This podcast is meant to continue Teal’s healing legacy, as Debi and Suzanne share her positivity. Today both of them truly are happier than ever, even after losing everything. Each show offers uplifting, humorous talk and answers to your hard questions. Debi and Suzanne take on life’s greatest challenges, from anxiety to grief, anger, finding healthy relationships, making difficult requests. And, of course, they’ll be sharing their organ donation story, as well as your write-in questions. No matter what you’ve been through … you really can get back to happy!
