John and Alen relentlessly pursue growth in mind, body, and third eye, and discuss and share their experiences along the way.
This one is heavier than a 315lb bench! The bros discuss Alen's recent near death experience and what he's learned from it, hustle culture, the new sauna setup at the Bro Palace, and more. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
Just a quick midweek pump from the bros to discuss the broscience of Mat Fraser on the latest JRE, Alen's newfound interest in running, the tragedy of a missed training day, and more. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
The bros are back with “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. John is celebrating being able to train legs again and Alen dyes his hair green just in time for St. Patty's day while fending off the form police. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
The bros are fully in “Atomic Habits” by James Clear now, look out. Audio cut out around 6 minutes in but that couldn't stop the momentum. @brobrainpodcast #carbup

Alen also shares about a particularly difficult challenge he's facing and the bros go deep on anorexia nervosa, body dysmorphia, and maintenance vs. building. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
You guessed it: the bros are still working through Designing The Mind. But most of the conversation today delves into mind-mapping, meditation beads, breathwork, negative visualization, real estate, and Jocko Willink. They'll get to DTM again...eventually. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
The bros discuss the latest chapters of Designing The Mind through exploring topics like Ronnie Coleman and 100% intensity as well as...lime trees? Botany? Strap up for this one. @brobrainpodcast #carbup
Listen to the bros continue to explore Designing The Mind in this one. It's good for you. Trust us, it's broscience.
The bros have moved on to a new book, “Designing the Mind: The Principles of Psychitecture,” but the conversation starts light with a spotlight on Alen's supplement stack. The bros quickly move up in weight to discuss how a shredded physique is the college degree of the fitness world and communicates a thousand words before one even speaks. The conversation heads into deep waters as the topic of steroids and mental weakness is explored, but remember, this is all bro science. As the L-Citrulline gets the blood pumping, the bros get enlightened with weight resistance yoga and bodybuilding and chakras before tapping into legendary Russian kettlebell master Pavel Tsatsouline's “greasing the groove” method and different approaches to strength. This segues to DTM as the Intro to Designing The Mind and Metacognition are reviewed. Finally, a cool down is needed as the bros close with gym lessons and the journey of moving states. #carbup IG: brobrainpodcast
Although this was originally meant to wrap up the book “Think Like a Monk”, the broscience was strong in this episode. With John back in the gym, the gain train was first in line. John and Alen have a very deep bro-to-bro talk all revolving around how important gains really are. New diets are starting to be developed because the need to put on “mass on a budget” no longer exists as the bros evolve. The broscience starts flowing and the brain pump is sick this time as the bros embrace the good that chasing aesthetics can bring to everyone. This is a new generation of broscience, as they come to terms that the bro way of eating made them adaptable to all situations because nothing is that serious as long as you go to the gym, do your fucking chores, and don't over-do the cheat meals. #broscience The broness gets embraced when they share their thoughts on high fat diets, the myths about calories from fat, and the side effects on the physique. One thing is for sure: things are better when they are lean, and having a lean physique is now a choice...and they choose to be lean every single time. Natural body building cause them to learn delayed gratification and the power of personal responsibility. The massive lesson came when they talked about body dysmorphia and how it can be a tool which makes people chase health and prosper, as well as a dark side that could easily lead to unhealthy habits, improper drug use, and poor mental health. Just like any sick gym session, cardio was also a conversation piece as John and Alen discuss different ways of doing cardio that are untraditional options for the average gym bro, but its all because of the perspective of the activity. They wrap things up with gratitude for bodybuilding and the flexibility that it brings in terms of time, structure, and lifestyle, and how being a gym bro is both a perk and a luxury. They cover the remaining chapters of “Think Like a Monk”: Gratitude * The bros are grateful for their commitment to bodybuilding because now, they have close to 10 years of lifting experience, combined with the compounded knowledge that they can now truly appreciate the beauty of muscle memory. Relationships * John and Alen have been friends for over 8 years, started through their passion for bodybuilding and the constant pursuit of achieving their ideal physique. Service * 10 years of experience in figuring out how to get the best results in fitness and other areas of life is what the bros bring every episode. They had to take each other under their wings at times but for the most part the had to learn how to do a lat spread by themselves. The service they bring to the world is their experiences; they had to figure out how to do one more rep, and sometimes that's all it takes. On the next episode they will begin covering the new book called “Designing the Mind: The Principles of Psychitecture” Its going to be fucking sick! #carbup #brobrain
Episode 12 The bros dive straight into this one as John is back in the gym and loading up on creatine and Alen is back on 75hard. In discussing their respective fitness plans, Alen and John reflect on the foundations of diet and training that, when mastered, allow the freedom and flexibility that an intuitive approach to each can yield. Things get philosophical when this leads to the discussion of “identity” in fitness and the duality of motivation. The bros have dealt with their fair share of struggles with body dysmorphia, so it's reps to failure as they cover the good, the bad, and the ugly of the aesthetics-obsessed bro. The tone is hopeful though as they ponder the evolution of the lifting man, more abstract fitness goals, and how to find your fitness mode, all before hitting the listeners with their double dutch take on jump roping and it's benefits. #carbup IG: brobrainpodcast
The bros take a deep dive into how to actually sleep faster, and some of the trials and errors. After facing the hard truth of the perma-bulk and the impact age has had on their ability to recover they have had to reflect on how the aesthetics kind of just vanished. Redefining bro fitness goals, and having body dysmorphia has had a significant impact on the size of the arms, and the self-esteem. Their shitty realatioship with food, and the sad truth of losing muscle and gaining fat forced them to understand that the “cheat” days and “dirty” bulks are times of the past and sadly unsustainable. The ego gets busted when the discovery of their overestimation of their abilities to shred… and the positives side of muscle dysmorphia. Alen is no longer doing 75hard and he shares his insights on how pain can be comfortable and how easy it is to hide behind pain, especially for gym bros, who often hide low self-esteem behind mirror muscles. The talks get interesting when they reframe money and what it means to have wealth. They find themselves understanding goal setting and the evolution of goal progression compared to the Olympia stage. Lastly they finish out the pump with some Bro-Meditation and transition to aesthetics. #carbup Instagram @brobrainpodcast
EPISODE 10 The bros catch up on life and the magic of being in the presence of family, as observed in the podcast, being “pure joy”. As the bros evolve, so do the conversations: it was noted that in 3 months, 2 books were read and discussed, something that would have not happened a few years back. Interestingly, some of the topics learned in “Limitless” and “Deep Work” are still subjects of conversation and the continued relevance is impressive. Eventually, after a few technical difficulties, the bros start dissecting the first three chapters of “Think Like a Monk”. Things get personal and deep like always, by discussing topics such as identity, negativity and fear. Carb up!
Episode 9: From “Deep Work” to “Think Like a Monk” Just like last week, the brain pump was juicy this week. What is the definition of a morning person? The bros discuss the application of what they have learned from the readings and the different ways they have applied them to life, including understanding the value of “uninterrupted time” and what that means based on individual circumstances and external factors. All of this is one way or another associated with how to manage stress: the bros share how stress has severely impacted their health and how things like alcohol can have a compounding effect on it. In wrapping up the the last chapter of Deep Work, they reflect on the shift in perspective that has to take place. Things get a little deep (no surprise) as they discuss the impact of guilt on your performance and how to decrease the impact. Episode 8 - The Social Dilemma x Deep Work The conversation is deep on this one. The bros catch up on the homework from last week by discussing the recent documentary “The Social Dilemma” and the real world side effects they have experienced over the decade. They go over the sometimes hidden social media addiction and habits that they have noticed and how they became aware of their impact. Ultimately it comes down to personal responsibility, but how easy is it to blame it on someone else? The last half of the episode is a double scoop of pre workout as John and Alen discuss the immediate similarities between social media and sugar (that's right, memes are powdered sugar for the brain). You can feel the beta-alanine kicking in this convo as they start discussing the legendary Arnold and Zyzz, how they were able to truly fulfill their lives by embracing fitness and capitalizing on the efforts alone, and truly enjoy the fruits of their labor. While most ask and wait for the answer, the ones with the gift of fulfillment from fitness confidently knew the answer before asking: “You mirin' brah?” The pump is good - John and Alen finish it off with some in-depth discussion on trauma release exercises and the similarities they have on bioenergetics (all broscience of course). Alen gives some personal experiences he has used to release trauma energy and “go dark.” Check out our instagram for daily stimulation to improve the BROBRAIN: @brobrainpodcast
The bros catch up and discuss the beginning of Part 2 of Cal Newport's book “Deep Work.” While covering topics such as styles of deep work and the Eudaimonia machine, they draw parallels from deep work to Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer, Kundalini yoga, supplements and shrooms, and set the stage to discuss “The Social Dilemma” and bioenergetics in the next episode. CARB UP!
Episode 6 The bros catch up on life, and discuss John's birthday and the questions that come behind it, also covering various topics such as meaning, egotistical role models, and mentors. The conversations evolve to deeper bro subjects such as fist pumping at home, hanxiety, and the evolution of the drinking bro. Finally, the bros cover Chapter 2: Deep Work Is Rare, and Chapter 3: Deep Work Is Meaningful. They get into the meaning of shallow work and how deep work will bust the corporate leadership ego; it's easier and safer to pretend to be busy, than to do actual deep work.
The bros start a new book: Deep Work by Cal Newport. While covering the Introduction and Chapter 1, the following topics were covered: 1. What is “Deep Work” 2.
