Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Romans 8:31–39 Romans 8:31–39 | What Shall We Say Then? from CrossPointe Coast on Vimeo. WHAT THEN SHALL WE SAY? WHO CAN BE AGAINST US? WHO SHALL BRING ANY CHARGE? WHO SHALL SEPARATE US? Before the Throne of God Above When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within, Upward I look and see him there, Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, My sinful soul is counted free, For God the just is satisfied To look on him and pardon me Romans 3:26 (ESV) It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Before the throne of God above Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea: A great High Priest whose name is Love, Who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands, My name is written on his heart. I know that while in Heav'n he stands No tongue can bid me thence depart, Colossians 3:3 (ESV) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 2 Corinthians 4:8–11 (ESV) We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. Ephesians 1:4–7 (ESV) In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace Matthew 5:11–12 (ESV) Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. D. A. Carson I do not think what the Bible says about the love of God can long survive at the forefront of our thinking if it is abstracted from the sovereignty of God, the holiness of God, the wrath of God, the providence of God, the personhood of God, to mention only a few non-negotiable elements of basic Christianity. The result, of course, is the love of God in our culture has been purged of anything the culture finds uncomfortable. The love of God has been sanitized, democratized, and, above all, sentimentalized.

Martin Luther … our nature has been so deeply curved in upon itself because of the viciousness of original sin that it not only turns the finest gifts of God in upon itself and enjoys them … it even uses God Himself to achieve these aims, but it also seems to be ignorant of this very fact, that in acting [with such great injustice], so perversely, and in such a depraved way, it is even seeking God for its own sake. James 4:1–3 (ESV) What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. PATIENCE BE PATIENT UNTIL THE COMING OF THE LORD 2 Thessalonians 1:4–8 THE FARMER WAITS DO NOT GRUMBLE DO NOT SWEAR James 1:3–4 (ESV) for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Philippians 1:6 (ESV) And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Thomas Manton In meditation argue thus: If a husbandman, upon ordinary principles of reason, can wait for the harvest, shall not I wait for the coming of the Lord, the day of refreshing? The corn is precious to him, and so is the coming of Christ to me; shall he be so patient, and endure so much for a little corn, and not I for the kingdom of heaven? He is willing to stay till all causes have had their operation, and he hath received the former and the latter rain; and shall not I till the divine decrees be accomplished? We cannot sow and reap in a day; effects cannot follow till all necessary causes have first wrought: it is not in the power of the husbandman to ripen fruits at pleasure; our times are in the hands of God; therefore it is good to wait; a long-suffering patience will reap the desired fruits, Psalm 27:1 (ESV) The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
