Anger. Lust. Divorce. Religious people tend to be pretty good at making it look like they don't struggle with these things to a watching world, and Jesus knows that. But Jesus cares much more than only about our behavior. According to Jesus righteousness includes outward behavior and the motivation behind our outward behavior. What if Jesus was more serious about righteousness than religious people seem to be? The Lord is wanting us to see that the Temple was at a place of peace, wholeness, completely sound. Solomon had made it into what God had intended it to be and as a result of that, the Glory of the Lord filled the Temple. Likewise, today, may your Glory manifest in us and through us! It's God's desire that we learn from this passage that God may entrust us with His resources in order to take care of those around us who also are in need. In order for that to happen, we must be aware of God's ability to provide and rest our faith in Him. In doing so, we can trust that when we sow what He has given us into others, we will see the supernatural power of God released and instead of having simply enough for ourselves, we will have more than enough to feed all who would sit with us at the table. The Simple Man - Assorted Proverbs Passages So that's why the first 20 years we eat, sleep, play, and enjoy ourselves; then for the next 40 we toil in the sin to support our family; the next 10 we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren; and the last 10 years we sit on the porch and bark at everyone. Proverbs 1:1-7 “Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself. Follow your heart and nothing else.” - Lynard Skynyrd, Simple Kind of Man There's a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” - Proverbs 14:12 (NHEB) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart and test the mind, to give to every man according to the fruit of his deeds. - Jeremiah 17:9-10 (ESV) The word for simple in the Bible in the Hebrew language is pethi (H6612); it occurs 19 times in the Old Testament (15 in the Proverbs). It carries the idea of being simple, naïve, and seducible. Biblically, a simple man is 3 things: First, he doesn't know what God wants him to know and act on yet. Secondly, he won't take the time and commitment necessary to find out what what God wants him to know and act on. Third, he is easy prey to the temptations of Satan. Here's the instruction Proverbs gives us about being a simple man: We all start simple To give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth. - Prov. 1:4 (ESV) The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. - Psalm 116:6 (ESV) The simple are called to learn and apply God's word so they can become prudent. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. - Psalm 19:7 (ESV) The unfolding of Your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. - Psalm 119:130 (ESV) You call yourself a simple man; God's word calls you a seducible man, ready to give in to the same kinds of temptations that ruin testimonies and hold entire churches back as you choose your ‘ease' over knowing and serving God. Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight. - Prov. 9:6 (ESV) The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps. One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless. - Prov. 14:15-16 (ESV) To stay simple is willful rebellion against God How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? - Prov. 1:22 (ESV) The fool rejects the things of God, the simple man simply won't do the work to become prudent. Those who stay simple are not ready to face battle with the Devil. The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. - Proverbs 14:18 (ESV) The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. - Proverbs 27:12 (ESV) As we age, being simple is no excuse for disobedience. Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge. - Prov. 19:25 (ESV) What part of commitment to God have you ignored, scoffed at, etc…? God won't bless what He can't bless in your life; He will judge what He must judge (discipline). SIMPLE – Satan Intentionally Manipulates People Loving Ease. Or is the problem that you are ashamed of Jesus Christ? You don't want to alienate those ‘simple man' friends of yours who don't know, won't learn, and don't obey Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us leave the elementary doctrines of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. - Hebrews 6:1-2 (ESV)

We have all been formed by a world that tells us we can have whatever we want whenever we want it. Yet, many of us are left feeling empty and unsatisfied with the status quo. According to Jesus the way to true life is not through self-fulfillment but through self-denial as he calls us to pick up our cross and follow him. 1 Samuel 1:1-20 | Sorrow to Song from CrossPointe Coast on Vimeo. Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: 1 Samuel 1:1-20 THE STORY FROM MOSES TO SAMUEL THE BOOKS OF 1 & 2 SAMUEL WHO IS HANNAH? Sorrowful Lovable (Tender) Prayerful Singing APPLY Have you been honest before the Lord and before those who love you about your sorrow? In your sorrow do you rehearse teh lines to your redemption song? Judges 2:16–19 (ESV) Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not do so. Whenever the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who afflicted and oppressed them. But whenever the judge died, they turned back and were more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them. They did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. God's Glory in Salvation through Judgement This narrative is bound together by three poems, one at the beginning (1 Sam. 2:1–10), one in the middle (2 Sam. 1:19–27), and one at the end (2 Sam. 22:1–23:7). Reversal is the rhyme and rhythm of these poems: the mighty, handsome, seemingly impressive people of the world (such as Peninnah, Saul, Goliath, and Absalom) are exposed as bankrupt, while the small, weak, infertile, and unimpressive (such as Hannah, Samuel, Jonathan, and David) are exalted (see 1 Sam. 2:1–10). In Samuel, the important distinctions between the worldly strong and the worldly weak are that those who are weak in the world's eyes rely on Yahweh and repent of their sin. Spurgeon Now, it is idle to tell the night that it should be brilliant as the day, or bid the winter put on the flowers of summer; and equally vain is it to chide the broken heart. 1 Samuel 2:1–2 (ESV) My heart exults in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. Episode Summary: Have you ever lost your joy? When the struggles of this world drain us dry and wring us out, our desert mentality becomes fertile ground for the enemy's lies to grow. We place our trust in what we see and feel instead of in the God we know and love. The enemy may threaten to steal our joy—but the truth is, he can't crack the code. God has infused us with his joy, his spirit, and his love; we are filled with his joy that cannot be emptied out. Today we are going to be talking about how we lose our joy and how to find joy in life again. Quotables from the episode: Our joy can be constant regardless of circumstances and difficult seasons in our lives. Jesus gave us His joy, and His promises are true. The existence of our joy is not dependent on our feelings, circumstances, or lies the enemy whispers in our ears. Joy is a supernatural gift from God—it's a fruit of the Spirit and it is ours to freely receive through Christ. Idols in our lives threaten our joy but we may not recognize them. When we put things first in our lives, instead of putting God first, they become idols. Although it may seem at times our joy is lost, our joy cannot be stolen. When we are in Christ, we have His joy in us. Surrender is turning over control and the outcome to God. This leads to peace. To walk in joy, we have to first remember the source of joy. Intentionally seek God throughout the day, and write down at least 3 joyful thoughts or observances (for example, breathing fresh air, remembering who we are in Christ, the joy of the Lord is our strength) Jesus gave me joy so it's full and overflowing. This Evangelization Challenge can be put into play when you know a friend or family member is going in for major surgery, or is very sick. When someone tells you someone is close to the end of their life make sure to share with them the importance to get the Sacrament of Anointing of the sick before they are unconscious. Otherwise the person may not be able to have confession and receive the apostolic pardon of all their sins before the die. We want to ensure all people close to the end of their life have all the support possible to help them get to Heaven. HE IS ALWAYS 100% present with you and focused on you in every present moment (without being any less present or focused anywhere else in the universe, because HE IS infinite). Do we really believe Jesus? Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. Mark 10:29-30 ESV You've heard it said that you get out of something what you put into it. Jesus is making that point here. But I want to challenge us today. There are a couple of things we need to see. First, Jesus isn't saying we get what we invest. He's saying we get much more. It's hard for me to think that I can't lose. Is it that way for you? I think about things in a very temporal context. In 2 Corinthians 4, Paul reminds us that the things we can see are temporal. The things we can't see are eternal. In this present age, what we spend or give up in this life for Jesus sake, and for the gospel, we receive back in multiples. How is this true? What does that do to the way we live and work today? Can we give a little more? Can we share or take a minute? What are you holding on to that you could let go of? I pray God helps us see with his eyes. Why not practice this with us. Unless we exert control over our institutions, starting with the schools, murders like those we saw in Nashville (and Aberdeen, and Denver, and Colorado Springs) will happen far more often as the minds of young people are broken by causing psychotic breaks with reality. We have enough people who are unconnected to reality, like the Sniffer-in-Chief who, instead of mourning the dead people murdered by a woman in a psychotic break instead admired the bodies of children. So many government schools played along with the lockdowns--and, many schools got paid to push masking and mRNA injections--that CBS News did a long report about the unprecedented damage to kid's education, though CBS blamed a flu. The radicalization of so many schools has decimated people's respect for the principles of a healthy society, it will take a century to get them back. The WSJ on what people value today: In 1998, 70 percent of Americans said patriotism was very important and now, only 38 percent. Religion was 62 percent in 1998, now 39 percent! The poll with 1019 adults was conducted march 1-13. So, remove the state's hands from the necks of children and make school optional--yes, people can thrive without them. My Uncle dropped out of 5th grade. My Uncle died rich. My Uncle learned from life. My Grandpa dropped out of 8th grade. My Grandpa died very well-off, well loved, well remembered for what he gave back to his community. My Grandpa learned from life. I know, people will say that is an “anti-intellectual” rant, but some of the finest minds in history did not attend compulsory schools. If school is totally optional, schools will have to pursue parents and, unless it's in the separate countries of Washington, Oregon, California and the like, most parents will understand it damages kids to teach them reality doesn't exist and racism is a virtue if they channel their hatred at the right people.What does God say?
