NSFC: Spirituality, Sex, and Longing in the Song of Songs 4/6 Rev. Dr. Katie Hays Mutuality is Sexy. Notably, the SoS is a duet between lovers – a woman and man, in this case. Moreover, the woman's voice is first and last, and it is she who sets the terms of their relationship in both love and sex. The lovers seek each other, wait for each other, ask for each other, pine for each other, in a way that demonstrates a startling parity between the genders for that time (and ours). Enthusiastic consent, indeed. To tell us your thoughts on this sermon, click through to the web posting and leave us a comment. Or, find us on social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. NSFC: Spirituality, Sex, and Longing in the Song of Songs 3/6 Jillian Moran Come as You Are. The Corinthian Christians worried about what they needed to change, repair, or complete before they could be accepted into the fellowship of Christ. Paul responds that God's call comes before our lives are well in order, and perfection (or even having your shit together) is not a prerequisite. God invites messy people in messy circumstances into relationship first, and to let the Holy Spirit transform them when the time comes for it. Especially during Pride Month, this text reminds us that God's welcome is not only for people who conform to a certain standard, but for all anyone willing to answer when God calls. Here we find a reference to a young woman that wakes in the night and finds her lover gone. She got up in the night (meaning heaviness in the heart and soul), because her lover was gone. She inquired of the city's watchmen to no avail. However, she did not stop searching for him until she found him. And when she did, he came displaying his glory. The wisdom here is for us today to seek the Lord, when our hearts get heavy and burdened, until he responds to our cry, with deliverance from whatever that has befallen us. Seek the Lord, while he may be found. Seek the Lord for your personal Pentecostal experience.
NSFC: Spirituality, Sex, and Longing in the Song of Songs 2/6 Rev. Dr. Katie Hays The Earth is Sexy. The SoS overflows with imagery from the natural world – flora and fauna, sights and smells, an extravaganza (orgy?) of appreciation for a well-watered spring. The lovers meet and make out (make love?) outside; they compare each other's beauty to things they've seen in nature; nature stirs their desire for each other. Can this sexy appreciation of the earth lead us to a love that drives care, justice, and reclamation of our planetary home? Matt Fuller (Senior Minister) – Evening ServiceThe Transforming Power Of LoveSong of Songs 7:1-8:14
The Song of Songs, the Bible's main treatment of human love, though later allegorized as the love of Christ for his Church. The woman's body identified with the paradisal garden. Two lovers seek each other and finally unite. Ascribed to Solomon, but may go back to old fertility rituals.

Song of Songs is one of the most poetic and powerful books in the Bible, giving us a picture of love the way God designed it…not rushed, distorted, or shaped by culture. In this 6-week Renewed Mind Bible Study, we will look at relationships, desire, identity, communication, and lasting commitment through the lens of Scripture, discovering what it looks like to build love that is healthy, honoring, and enduring.
Today’s Bible Verse: “My beloved speaks and said to me, ‘Arise, my love, my fair one, come away’” — Song of Songs 2:10 Song of Songs 2:10 is a tender invitation—one filled with affection, pursuit, and closeness. It reflects a love that calls, not forces. A voice that invites, not demands. At its heart, this verse points to the beauty of being wanted and welcomed. Want to listen without ads? The Song of Songs does show us a perfect romance, but also longing, absence, and pain. In this message, we explore how love exposes us to vulnerability, disappointment, and even wounding, yet also deepens through trust, friendship, and endurance. Ultimately, the Song points beyond human love to a greater love, the love of Christ, who enters our pain, overcomes death, and proves that love is stronger still.

Rabbi Amy Bernstein's weekly Torah study class via Zoom - Song of Songs/Shir HaShirim: 2:1 - April 3, 2026.
The Song of Songs reveals that love is powerful , beautiful, and not to be taken lightly. In this message, we explore why Scripture warns us not to awaken love before its time, how love creates deep vulnerability, and why it must be protected within covenant. In a culture shaped by pressure and confusion around relationships, we are invited into a vision of love that is both passionate and faithful, ultimately pointing us to the covenant love of Christ, who binds himself to us in mercy and grace.
This week, Ryan Murphy brings a message from Song of Songs 2 titled "Stepping Into Spring." Drawing from the ancient love poem at the heart of Scripture, Ryan unpacks the wisdom of spiritual seasons — and makes the case that for many in the room, the long winter is giving way to something new.Walking through the imagery of the bride and bridegroom in Song of Songs 2, Ryan traces a journey from insecurity to confidence, from dormancy to blossoming, and from private intimacy with God to bold, fruitful action. He roots the sermon in a simple but profound conviction: just as nature declares the glory of God, the seasons we walk through are not random. They are a gardener's work — pruning, planting, and preparing us for what's next. The sermon moves through five ways to partner with what God does in a springtime season: stepping further into confidence in God's love, fighting for your history with God in prayer, creating and making — especially for those with artistic gifts long silenced by shame or discouragement — discerning what to water by looking back at the prophetic promises of the winter, and guarding the growth by catching the internal foxes — ambition, offense, and fear — before they can ruin what's beginning to bloom.Ultimately, this message is an invitation to stop fighting your season and lean into it. Whether you're still in winter or already feeling the first signs of spring, the foundation of everything is the same: the Bridegroom is leaping over the mountains to get to you, singing arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. His delight in you is not waiting for your performance to improve. It has never changed.
Title: True Lies: Marriage is Boring Preacher: Jamie Dunlop Series: True Lies Passage: Song of Songs 8:5-7
Our King forgives his repentant Bride & delights in her. Believe him!
The Song of Songs invites us to see the world through the eyes of love. In this message, we explore how love changes the way we see others, not as objects to use, but as persons of infinite worth, and how it awakens a vision of the world as full of beauty, life, and possibility.Yet human love, as good as it is, cannot ultimately satisfy our deepest longing. The message points us to a greater love, the love of God in Christ, who sees us fully, pursues us faithfully, and restores our capacity to love.

"The Duet of Love"Song of Songs 6:4-8:4Overwhelming beautyOverwhelming desireOverwhelming love
Conflict is inevitable; destruction isn't. In this message from Song of Songs 5:2-6:3, we look at how relationships drift, how miscommunication grows, and why healthy love learns to fight clean. If you've felt tension in dating, marriage, or friendship, this message points us back to God's design and the hope of Scripture. Phoenix Bible Church is a church in the heart of the city of Phoenix, Arizona. We desire to engage culture, uphold truth and love people. In a world where life can be heavy and confusing, we want to cover the hard truths - with grace. This is difficulty and messy - and so are we - but the love of Jesus meets us in our mess. Our rhythm is to gather to worship on Sunday and then scatter during the week to love, live and lead together. We are imperfect people moved by the perfect love of Jesus. Come as you are. Experience His love. #LoveMoves
You've probably wondered why God makes such a big deal about sex. (So have I.)Song of Songs chapter 8 doesn't give you a list of rules. It reveals something stranger and more beautiful — that marital love, the kind expressed in sex, carries within it the actual power of God. That it's stronger than death, stronger than chaos, stronger than anything that seeks to destroy you. In fact, it's so powerful that — without a proper container — it could destroy you. Like a radioactive isotope. In this sermon, we'll explore the awesome power of love, uncover the ancient story behind one of Scripture's most stunning passages, enjoy an Andrew Wyeth painting, consider what happens when sex has no container, and wrestle honestly with desire and its consequences.Download the group discussion guide here.
"Marriage in the Real World"Song of Songs 5:2-6:3"The course of true love never did run smooth"How will you respond to Jesus this week? What will you remember about Jesus this week?
What is love, really? In this message from Song of Solomon, we look at the power of covenant love, why love should not be awakened before its time, and how real relationships are formed through commitment, community, healing, and the love of Jesus. This sermon is both honest and pastoral, reminding us that love is more than emotion; it is shaped by holiness, strengthened in suffering, and sustained by God. Whether you are single, dating, married, or healing from heartbreak, this message points to a deeper kind of love; one that is rooted in Christ and strong enough to endure.
He wanted intimacy. She didn't. They fought. In Song of Songs 5, a husband and wife have a painfully familiar moment. What begins as a small conflict quickly spirals into something deeper—and raises a question every relationship eventually faces: What story will you tell yourself after the fight? This ancient love poem doesn't idealize relationships. It shows us how conflict actually works—how it can slowly build walls between two people… or become the very thing that deepens intimacy and trust.Download the group discussion guide here.

Dating is complicated; Scripture doesn't avoid it. In Song of Songs 2:8–3:5, we see that love moves with pursuit, brings life and flourishing, and has wisdom for singleness and dating. This message walks through what to look for in a relationship (Christ, character, chemistry), why community + time matter, how to bring kindness + clarity to dating, and why we don't want to “awaken love before it's time.” Most of all, it points to Jesus as the truest Pursuer who brings healing and joy. The Song of Songs has been silenced, sanitized, and spiritualized into obscurity. Too passionate for children, too dangerous for pulpits, and once removed from an early Bible translation altogether, this book has long made religious leaders uncomfortable. But what if the discomfort is the point? Melissa Schilling Smith dismantles centuries of tradition to reveal who the Song of Songs is really about and why its message confronts every believer today. Throughout history, there have been countless songs, poems, and books written about love. Yet, we know that turning to pop culture for advice on finding love is not the wisest course of action. In this message, Pastor J.D. reminds us from Song of Solomon 1 and 2 of some foundational truths about love that are helpful in navigating singleness, dating, and marriage. In the end, these earthly forms of love are intended to be a signpost, pointing us to the much greater love that God has for us.
