Scripture defines faith as substance and evidence, a present guarantee and a satisfying conviction, formed by hearing God's Word. As we consider what it means to live in faith and live out faith, we are reminded that faith is a reasoned trust that seeks God, knows Him, and responds in obedience.
Pleasing God over people is a tension every believer faces. This Christian devotional explores the difference between people-pleasing and God-honoring obedience, drawing wisdom from Ecclesiastes 3:1–2 and the life of Jesus. True biblical love is not rooted in appeasement or fear of conflict, but in discerning when to speak truth, when to remain silent, and when obedience to God requires courage over comfort. Highlights People-pleasing and peace-making are not always the same Biblical love values truth over appeasement There is a God-appointed time to speak and a time to remain silent Jesus modeled courage, truth, and discernment in every situation Fear of man can prevent growth and obedience God equips believers with the right words when we trust Him Pleasing God sometimes requires speaking up, not staying quiet Do you want to listen ad-free? Yet, I also knew if I said, "You're right," I'd be lying. In reality, there is a difference between people-pleasing and peace-making. They are not always one and the same. In the past, I'd be inclined to lie to keep the peace. I'd be inclined to brush things under the carpet of don't-lift-up-the-corner-of-this-rug for anything—to keep everyone happy. I'd be inclined to adapt to make sure everyone is okay. This is not biblical love, but it verges more towards manipulative love. Appeasing man is not always the same as pleasing the Lord. We must be careful here. There is a time for everything under the sun. “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:a time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot…” (Eccl. 3:1-2) There is a time to speak truth and a time to be quiet. There is a time to bring clarity and a time to listen. There is a time to defend and a time to back off. There is a time to pray, and there is a time to say things. Jesus didn't always back away; sometimes He spoke truth. He called out the Pharisees and told them the truth when they fought Him (Matt. 23:27-28). He said, "Forgive them" aloud when He was being crucified (Luke 23:34). He addressed the Pharisees' lack of mercy with a straightforward address (Matt. 23:23). He powerfully used His words and actions to drive the merchants out of the temple (Matt. 21:12-13). The list goes on and on... Jesus did not always stay silent. To turn the other cheek does not always mean taking it... There is a time to speak up. There is a time to not fear man. There is a time to tell the truth. The key is to pray and discern what God would have you do (Eph. 5:17). Sometimes things never change because we never change our approach. Sometimes ruts continue because we don't trust God to equip us with the right words. Sometimes habits continue because we fear man more than we believe God will help us. Don't mistake fear of man for fear of the Lord. The Lord may have you speak up louder than the fear of man has ever permitted you to. This is not unbiblical; it may be monumental in your walk with the Lord. The answer is not always silence. Sometimes the way that most pleases God is speaking up. Wisdom is knowing the difference. Lying is sinning, even if it is pursuing peace-making. The question is—how do we be true, while being godly and loving? Sometimes, this requires pausing to seek God for what needs to be said. Other times, it may require praying to get a couple of levels deeper than what is on the surface. The ultimate key is to respond to a person from God's will and not to react from our own. What if the prayers that truly please God aren't the ones we've been praying? This powerful message from 1 Timothy 2:1-4 challenges us to examine our prayer life with radical honesty. We're called to pray for 'all people'—not just those we like, not just those who agree with us, not just those who meet our standards of worthiness. The Hebrew lesson is simple: 'all y'all' means everyone, without exception. When we pray for all people, something transformative happens—we develop what's called 'not yet eyes' instead of 'never eyes.' We stop writing people off as too far gone and start seeing them as God sees them: souls in process, works in progress, beloved creations not yet fully transformed. This includes praying for leaders and authorities, even when we disagree with their policies, their platforms, or their decisions. Why? Because prayer isn't about political alignment—it's about creating space for peace, godliness, and dignity in our communities. The stunning truth is that our first response to injustice, chaos, and conflict shouldn't be outrage or activism—it should be prayer. When we turn off the noise and get on our knees, we position ourselves to participate in God's redemptive work rather than simply adding to the division. This message reminds us that every person—from the immigrant to the ICE agent, from the protestor to the politician—has a soul that matters eternally to God.
God doesn't want your leftovers; He wants your heart. In this study, we discover that pleasing God isn't about the formality of religion, but the posture of a faith-filled covenant relationship with Jesus. Let's learn how to bring our best worship and faith to the One who sees us as we truly are.

Speaker: Rob BerrethScripture: Hebrews 13:7-19Episode Overview:In this sermon from Hebrews 13:7–19, we explore how God calls His people to relate to spiritual authority within the local church. Scripture paints a vision of leadership rooted in faithful teaching, Christlike character, and vigilant care for souls. At the same time, believers are invited to remember, imitate, obey, and pray for those who shepherd them. This passage offers a deeply biblical, countercultural picture of joyful leadership and joyful followership—one that flows from the grace and supremacy of Christ. Join us as we walk through three movements in the text: remembering and imitating godly pastors, obeying and yielding to spiritual leadership, and praying earnestly for those entrusted with watching over the church.Key Highlights:1. Remember and Imitate Your Pastors (Heb 13:7)• Godly leaders are marked first by speaking the Word of God faithfully.• Their way of life confirms the truth they teach as they strive to model mature Christian character.• Believers are called to consider and continually reflect on the outcome of their leaders' lives and to imitate their faith—not because leaders are perfect, but because they point to Christ.• Imitation is not blind allegiance; Christ alone is the One we follow.2. Obey and Submit to Your Leaders (Heb 13:17)• The command to obey is tied to being persuaded by biblical teaching, not to unquestioning compliance.• Submission describes a posture of willing cooperation rather than stubborn resistance.• Scripture provides limits to pastoral authority; leaders may only require what God Himself commands.• Healthy church life happens when pastors joyfully lead and believers joyfully respond.3. Pray Earnestly for Your Leaders (Heb 13:18–19)• Pastors “keep watch over souls” and will “give an account”—a weighty and joyful responsibility.• The church's prayers safeguard leaders from drifting into false teaching, strengthen their character, and support them in the demanding work of shepherding.• A praying church becomes a spiritually powerful church.Call to Action:This week, intentionally pray for the leaders God has placed in your life—that they would remain faithful to Scripture, walk with integrity, and lead with joy. At the same time, examine your own posture toward authority: ask the Lord to cultivate a heart that is humble, teachable, and eager to follow Him through the shepherds He has provided. Seek ways to encourage your spiritual leaders, and allow their example to spur you toward deeper faithfulness in your own walk with Christ.Redeemer Church211 Northshore Dr. Bellingham, WA 98226www.redeemernw.org

Pastor Adam shares a message on how God's pleasure is in our obedience.
Mable struggles with the fear of man, often described as people-pleasing or codependency. Her functional theology is performance-driven, centering on earning approval from others rather than resting in Christ's finished work. Speaker: Dane BurgessScripture: Hebrews 13:4-6Episode Overview:In Hebrews 13:4–6, we see how even God's best gifts—love, intimacy, provision—can become counterfeit gods when they replace the Giver Himself. The writer of Hebrews calls us to freedom from idolatry, not through willpower, but through worship—by finding only in Christ the satisfaction idols falsely promise. Whether it's sex, money, power, comfort, or approval, every false god eventually breaks under the weight of our trust. But the true God never does. His unshakable promise, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” anchors our hearts in grace and teaches us that the way to please God isn't by trying harder, but by trusting deeper.Key Highlights:• The difference between good gifts and false gods• The “Four Root Idols” that drive much of our sin: Power, Control, Comfort, and Approval• Why idolatry begins not in rebellion but in replacement• How God's promise—“I will never leave you nor forsake you”—sets the heart free from counterfeit security• The “expulsive power of a new affection”: worship replacing willpower• The gospel exchange at the cross: Jesus bore the cost of our idols to bring us back to HimselfCall to Action:Ask the Spirit to reveal where your heart has bowed to a counterfeit. Then don't just turn from that idol—turn toward Christ. Let His presence replace your fear, His peace your striving, and His love your need for control or approval. The way to please God isn't by managing sin but by magnifying His grace.Redeemer Church211 Northshore Dr. Bellingham, WA 98226www.redeemernw.org
Election Day is more than a civic duty—it’s an opportunity to honor God with the choices we make at the ballot box. Deuteronomy 30:19 reminds us to “choose life,” aligning our decisions with God’s ways so that blessings flow to us and our communities. Voting as a Christian is about more than candidates or parties; it’s about reflecting God’s principles and demonstrating the heart of faith in action. Highlights Christians are called to vote with discernment, seeking God’s guidance and aligning choices with His Word. Election Day historically has been viewed as a sacred responsibility to uphold godly principles in governance. Individual votes matter—John Wesley emphasized acting “as if the whole election depended on your single vote.” Abstaining from voting can have spiritual consequences (James 4:17). Voting reflects the values of our hearts and serves as a declaration of faith (Psalm 119:30, Joshua 24:15). Praying and humbling ourselves before God ensures our votes honor Him and contribute to healing the land (2 Chronicles 7:14). A biblically guided approach to elections helps Christians navigate political and moral complexities faithfully. Join the Conversation How do you ensure your vote reflects your faith? What steps can you take this Election Day to seek God’s guidance in your civic decisions? Share your thoughts with #VotingWithFaith #ChooseLife #ChristianVote.

The conversation delves into the deep emotional longing for fatherhood, exploring the speaker's childhood experiences and the promises made to oneself about parenting. It highlights the pain of absence and the desire to create a loving and honest environment for future generations. In the heart of every family lies a story, often untold, yet profoundly impactful. The radio drama "Accounts Receivable" unravels a tale of familial bonds, betrayal, and redemption, set against the backdrop of a mystery that has haunted the Coleman family for years. This narrative invites us to explore the depths of human emotions and the intricate web of relationships that define us.The Unseen Burden: Phil Coleman, a man burdened by the shadow of his father's past, finds himself at a crossroads. His father's legacy, tainted by crime and imprisonment, casts a long shadow over his life. As Phil grapples with the decision to accept his ailing father back into his home, the story delves into the complexities of forgiveness and the struggle to break free from the chains of the past.A Father's Redemption: Rick Coleman, once a notorious figure, seeks redemption in the twilight of his life. His return to the family home is not just a physical journey but an emotional one, as he attempts to mend the broken ties with his son. The narrative beautifully captures the tension and eventual reconciliation between father and son, highlighting the power of understanding and acceptance. The Legacy of Secrets: At the heart of the drama lies a mystery—a hidden fortune that has eluded many. As Phil and Rick navigate their tumultuous relationship, the question of the missing money looms large. This subplot serves as a metaphor for the secrets that families often harbor, and the impact these secrets have on future generations. Conclusion: "Accounts Receivable" is more than just a mystery; it's a poignant exploration of the human condition. It reminds us that while we cannot change the past, we have the power to shape our future through forgiveness and love. As the story concludes, we are left with a sense of hope and the realization that true wealth lies not in material possessions, but in the bonds we forge with those we love.Subscribe Now: Stay tuned for more captivating stories and insights. Speaker: Rob BerrethScripture: Hebrews 12:18-29Episode Overview:In Hebrews 13:1–3, the author moves from the truths of who Jesus is to the commands that flow from His grace. This sermon explores how genuine faith expresses itself through love—love for our brothers and sisters in Christ, love for strangers, and love for those who are suffering or sidelined. As we reflect on the deep, initiating love of Jesus—the One who welcomed us when we were strangers and suffered for us when we were lost—we find both the motivation and power to live lives pleasing to God. True worship is not confined to songs or services, but seen in everyday acts of love rooted in the gospel.Key Highlights:• The Gospel's Grammar: God's commands (imperatives) are always grounded in His finished work (indicatives). We love because Christ first loved us.• Brotherly Love Continues: The mark of a true disciple is enduring, family-like love within the church.• Hospitality to Strangers: Biblical hospitality extends beyond comfort or reciprocity—it welcomes those outside our circle just as Christ welcomed us.• Remembering the Sidelined: God calls us to identify with and care for the suffering, the forgotten, and the persecuted, just as Jesus did.• Pleasing and Serving God: When we love others, we not only please the heart of God but serve Christ Himself.Call to Action:Ask God to open your eyes this week to someone you can love sacrificially—whether it's a brother or sister who needs encouragement, a stranger who needs welcome, or someone suffering who needs to be remembered. Let your acts of love be an offering of worship, pleasing to the Lord who first loved you.Redeemer Church211 Northshore Dr. Bellingham, WA 98226www.redeemernw.org

Obviously, there is only one thing to talk about. Please God in the next few days the twenty Israeli hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza are to be released as part of phase one of the deal brokered by President Trump, his team, and a host of nations. More than two years after they were taken hostage, these twenty surviving hostages who have been in hell for an eternity will at long last be home, reunited with their families. And the question is, how do we process this monumental and joyful event?
Pastoral Reflections Finding God In Ourselves by Msgr. Don Fischer
Gospel Luke 11:1-4 Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.” Reflection What strikes me about this very simple prayer is how concise and precise it is. What God wants us to be doing is establishing his kingdom. We do that by opening ourselves to God's presence and sharing that with one another. He feeds us and nourishes us with his presence, His Holy Spirit dwelling within us. And over and over, he will forgive us our sins and not hold them against us, and prays that we will do the same for each other. And in the last line, Do not subject us to the final test. Many read that as a way of saying, Please God, don't tempt us'. Yet the true definition is not, don't lead us into temptation, but let us not fall into temptation. That's a different meaning, an important difference, because nothing is clearer than God is on our side, helping us, working with us, being patient with us as we build the kingdom. Closing Prayer Father, it's easy to see in this particular passage how words are not necessary in terms of having to bring people to an awareness of something essential. It doesn't take many words. It takes clarity. It takes simplicity. It takes a simple way of understanding the work. It isn't difficult to understand if you know, it's simply about a God who gives us everything we need if we simply open ourselves to it and receive it, help us to be receptive of all your gifts. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What if standing firm in your faith meant walking through fire? In this powerful message, Pastor Van unpacks the timeless story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to reveal how true emotional intelligence means pleasing God alone, not people. Through their courageous example of respectfully but firmly refusing to bow to culture's golden idols, we learn that authentic faith may cost us something—but it gains us everything. This transformative message challenges us to examine where we might be compromising and inspires us to live unashamedly for Jesus in our modern "Babylon."
In a season of Stillness, but I'm still here. ❤️
God's grace covers all of our sin, but we must not take advantage of that so that we can sin all we want. We are called to live lives of obedience to Him, and having faith in Him is the first step to pleasing Him. When we live our lives to please God then when we see Him face to face in the end He will say, “Well done.”
