What would it take to silence the accusing voice inside you? In this episode of Light + Truth, John Piper opens Romans 8:1 to show how every charge against believers has already been answered.
Why are the words “no condemnation” so life-altering? In this episode of Light + Truth, John Piper turns to Romans 8:1 to show how Christ's death placed judgment in the past for all who are in him.

Brother Gowens' 5/25/25 sermon is a continuation of the series of messages on Romans 8. In this message, Gowens considers verses 1-4, a passage that expresses the very heart of the gospel message, and shows the relationship between the truths of justification/regeneration--the objective ground of salvation--and the believer's quest for subjective assurance.
Sermon Series: “The Gospel: God's Power in Our Salvation” Sermon Text: Romans 6:1-14 Sermon Title: “Sanctification: A Growing Obsession with Jesus” Sermon Slides: SLIDE 1 – Sermon Title Slide= SLIDE 2 – Today's Big Idea: If Justification is Good News … Sanctification is More Good News. And our Sanctification Progresses … as our Obsession with Jesus Grows. SLIDE 3 – Point 1: Our Sanctification Begins … By Our Union with Jesus. (vv. 1-10) SLIDE 4 – Justification = God's Legal Verdict of ‘No Condemnation'; His forgiving and declaring us righteous in Christ, because of Christ alone. Justification is God's verdict and our new status. SLIDE 5 – Sanctification = Our Actual Renewal in the Power of Christ's Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection by the Holy Spirit. Sanctification is the Spirit's work and our new habits. SLIDE 6 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 7 – 1st Principle (from vv. 1-2): “There are two kinds of people in our world – those who are dead to sin by God's grace, and those still dead in sin who trust in their works.” SLIDE 8 – 2nd Principle (from vv. 1-2): “Our Justification is not our license to keep sinning … but our license to become holy.” SLIDE 9 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 10 – 1 Cor. 12:13 – “For also by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.” SLIDE 11 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 12 – 1st Principle (from vv. 9-10): “Justification overturns sin's final penalty … but Sanctification overcomes sin's present power.” SLIDE 13 – 2nd Principle (from vv. 9-10): “Justification is the Gospel at work for us. But Sanctification is the Gospel at work in us. We will be changed!” SLIDE 14 – Conclusion (Point 1): “The additional Good News of Sanctification is that we've received real power over our remaining sin that will produce real holiness in us. We will be changed … because the change is inside us!” SLIDE 15 – Point 2: Our Sanctification Progresses … As Our Obsession with Jesus Grows. (vv. 11-14) SLIDE 16 – Matthew 5:29 – “But if your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” SLIDE 17 – Insert a Copy of Point #2 of Sermon SLIDE 18 – Principle (from vv. 11-14): “You may lose a battle (or a string of battles) against sin, but you'll never lose the war. For God's grace of justification rules you … not the Law of condemnation.” SLIDE 19 – Conclusion (Point 2): “Sanctification is More Good News not only because we are liberated from the power of sin, but because we're fully empowered to walk, talk, and live like Jesus! We will look like Him!” SLIDE 20 – Sermon Uses: Three for our Gospel Sanctification. SLIDE 21 – You Can't Be Sanctified if You Haven't Been Justified … So Have You? SLIDE 22 – Our Sanctification in Jesus… is Also by Grace through Faith in Christ. SLIDE 23 – 1 Peter 3:15 – “But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.” SLIDE 24 – Phil. 2:12-13 – “So then, my beloved … work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” SLIDE 25 – Stop Trying to Be Perfect … Instead, Trust Harder in the Perfect Savior.

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on May 25, 2025) In Romans 8, Paul opens the chapter with the glorious declaration that there is therefore NOW no condemnation to those who are “in Christ Jesus.” That phrase “in Christ Jesus” refers to our condition as regenerated children of God, and NOT to our conduct. All throughout both the Old and New Testaments, we see a clear pattern of people in Scripture turning to prayer and fasting in times of uncertainty, brokenness, and need. And in those examples, we find that prayer and fasting are not just religious obligations but natural responses to desperation. And we find that moments of crisis can lead to spiritual renewal when approached with humility and dependence on God. And we find that whether you and I are facing the unknown road ahead or the ruins of life, the invitation is to pray and fast, recognizing that our deepest hunger can only be satisfied by God. The Gospel Manifesto in the Book of Romans Pt. 5: Winning the War Against Sin, Romans 7: 7-8:39 By Louie Marsh, 5-25-2025 3 Funny Church Signs The Transformational Arc – To the bottom and then up, to the end of myself, forsaking myself, realizing I'm in Christ, trusting in Jesus to take me up! 1) The Law SHOWS me what sin is. 7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Romans 7:7-12 (ESV) 2) The Law REVEALS the true state of my heart. 13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. Romans 7:13-20 (ESV) 3) The Law exposes the war between my TWO SELVES. 21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Romans 7:21-23 (ESV) 4) The Law brings me to despair – the end of MYSELF. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Romans 7:24-25 (ESV) 5) The Six Facets of Christ's Victory Over Sin. · Guilt & Shame are GONE because of Jesus! 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4 (ESV) …there is not even one bit… Kenneth S. Wuest Translation · My old nature no longer CONTROLS ME. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. 12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:5-13 (ESV) · My relationship with Christ is CONFIRMED. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8:14-17 (ESV) · My eternal inheritance is GUARANTEED. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:18-25 (ESV) · My part in God's eternal plan is REVEALED. 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:26-30 (ESV) · In Christ alone though I suffer I am a SUPER-CONQUEROR! 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-39 (ESV)
Pastor Kelly Soiles points us to Romans 8:1, reminding us that in Christ we're no longer under condemnation but invited into a life shaped by genuine transformation rather than mere performance.
Today we take a look at why the Christian can rest secure knowing that he is not condemned from Romans 8:1-4.

No Condemnation A Sermon by Pastor Richard Sfameni, Lead Pastor of Victory Church in Providence, RI. We are secure We are free We are righteous Romans 8:1-7 NKJV 1There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

Today's Promise: Romans 8:1 Shame, guilt, and condemnation seem to go hand in hand when it comes to religion. Religious people are often the most beaten down and guilt-ridden people around. Religion loves to make you feel ashamed, guilty, and worthless. There is no shame or condemnation for the followers of Christ. All your shame, guilt, and self-reproach disappeared when you made Jesus your Savior and Lord. In Christ, you stand before God clean and pure. Never allow the condemnation of religion to overshadow the forgiveness you have found in Christ.
