Matthew 28:1–7 (ESV) Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” Jesus Wasn't The Only Or The First ResurrectionThe Shunammite's Son - 2 Kings 4:33–35 (ESV) So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the LORD. Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm. Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house, and went up and stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. The Unnamed Man & Elisha's Grave - 2 Kings 13:20–21 (ESV) So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.Jairus' Daughter - Mark 5:41–42 (ESV) Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.Lazarus - John 11:43–44 (ESV) When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”The Graveyard Near Golgotha - Matthew 27:50–53 (ESV) And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.Dorcas (Tabitha) - Acts 9:40–41 (ESV) But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.ONE DIFFERENCE: Every one of these went on to die again.Jesus' Resurrection Was DifferentHe Wasn't Easily Recognized - John 20:14–16 (ESV) Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). He Was Able To Appear/Disappear - Luke 24:36 (ESV) As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”He Maintained His Scars - John 20:27–28 (ESV) Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”He Didn't Die But Ascended Into Heaven - Acts 1:9 (ESV) And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”Our Future:Resurrection or… - 1 Corinthians 15:21–23, 47-49 (ESV) For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.Transformation - 1 Corinthians 15:51–52 (ESV) Behold! I tell you a mystery. The Biosphere 2 project in Oracle Arizona was created as a research tool for scientists to study Earth's living systems, and it allowed scientists to play with farming and innovation in a way that didn't harm the planet. One of the most profound discoveries made by the scientists had nothing to do with a cure for some new disease or a new way of farming land. Rather, the discovery had to do with the wind's role in a tree's life. The trees inside Biosphere 2 grew rapidly, more rapidly than they did outside of the dome, but they also fell over before reaching maturation. After looking at the root systems and outer layers of bark, the scientists came to realize that a lack of wind in Biosphere 2 caused a deficiency of stress wood. Stress wood helps a tree position itself for optimal sun absorption and it also helps trees grow more solidly. Without stress wood, a tree can grow quickly, but it cannot support itself fully. It cannot withstand normal wear and tear, and survive. In other words, the trees needed stress in order to thrive in the long run.Hebrews 11:32–34 (ESV) And what more shall I say? Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: Romans 1:3–4 CONCERNING THE SON DESCENDED FROM DAVID DECLARED TO BE THE SON OF GOD JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD John 1:1–2 (ESV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. Romans 9:5 (ESV) To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen. Athanasian Creed _The Father was neither made nor created nor begotten from anyone. The Son was neither made nor created; he was begotten from the Father alone. The Holy Spirit was neither made nor created nor begotten; he proceeds from the Father and the Son. Nothing in this trinity is before or after, nothing is greater or smaller; in their entirety the three persons are coeternal and coequal with each other. Romans 8:31–32 (ESV) What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Ephesians 1:7–10 (ESV) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us London Baptist Confession This covenant is revealed in the gospel. It was revealed first of all to Adam in the promise of salvation through the seed of the woman. After that, it was revealed step by step until the full revelation of it was completed in the New Testament. This covenant is based on the eternal covenant transaction between the Father and the Son concerning the redemption of the elect. Jeremiah 23:5 (ESV) Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. Athanasian Creed He is God from the essence of the Father, begotten before time; and he is human from the essence of his mother, born in time; completely God, completely human, with a rational soul and human flesh; equal to the Father as regards divinity, less than the Father as regards humanity. J. Gresham Machen The great weapon with which the disciples of Jesus set out to conquer the world was not a mere comprehension of eternal principles; it was an historical message, an account of something that had recently happened, it was the message, “He is risen.” Romans 6:5 (ESV) For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. Philippians 2:9–11 (ESV) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Matthew 28:18-19 (ESV) And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations … 1 Corinthians 15:25–26 (ESV) For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. Ephesians 1:19–21 (ESV) … what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. Acts 2:36 (ESV) Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Te Deum Laudamus, fifth century Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the virgin's womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father.
Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “In the Field." Key Verse: Matthew 9:35-38 ESV “And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”” Sermon Topics: Discipleship

Thundering Legion Podcast: Armed Forces Members United In Christ
https://linktr.ee/thunderinglegion Today we wrestle with the question: “What is a worldview?” Episode Notes: Every person, whether religious or “spiritual”, atheist or agnostic, Jew or Muslim, holds a worldview. Societies function when members hold a shared worldview. Generally, a worldview is composed of 5 primary components: 1) origin, 2) identity, 3) meaning, 4) morality, and 5) destiny Origin: Where did I and everything come from? Identity: What and who am I, and what and who are we? Meaning: Why am I here? Morality: What is right and wrong, good and evil? How should I live? Destiny: Is there meaning and consequence after this physical life? Where am I going? Even if you've never thought about these questions before, you do hold a view on each of these components of a worldview. It was probably just learned and inherited subconsciously from the culture around you. So how does Christianity answer these questions? Origin: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth… And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light…”Genesis 1:1,3 ESV Identity: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 ESV Meaning: “And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” Genesis 1:28 ESV “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:18-19 ESV Morality: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 Destiny: “Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28 Be sure to subscribe and share. Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: Mark 15:1-15 JESUS IS DELIVERED TO THE GENTILES BEFORE PILATE STANDS THE JUDGE BEFORE THE CROWDS STANDS THE KING Apostles' Creed I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. Isaiah 53:3 (ESV) He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isaiah 53:3 (ESV) He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Mark 10:33–34 (ESV) See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise. Mark 10:45 (ESV) For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 8:31 (ESV) And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. Acts 10:42 (ESV) And [Jesus] commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. Acts 17:30–31 (ESV) The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead. Psalm 22:6–8 (ESV) But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!” Ephesians 2:4–5 (ESV) But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— Ephesians 2:7 (ESV) so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: Mark 14:41–52 THE BETRAYAL THE DISCIPLES SCATTER JESUS IS ALONE Ephesians 1:4–6 (ESV) In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. Mark 8:31 (ESV) And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. Romans 5:8 (ESV) … but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Acts 20:37–38 (ESV) And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him, being sorrowful most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. Matthew 26:50 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Mark 14:27 (ESV) And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'” Mark 15:27 (ESV) And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left. Mark 14:1–2 (ESV) And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.” Psalm 36:1 (ESV) Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: Mark 12:1–12 HE BEGAN TO SPEAK A VINEYARD THE TENANTS A BELOVED SON WHAT WILL THE OWNER OF THE VINEYARD DO? PSALM 118 | THE STONE THE BUILDERS REJECTED Isaiah 5:1–7 Jeremiah 7:25–26 (ESV) From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day. Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. Mark 11:30 (ESV) Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Mark 11:32 (ESV) But shall we say, ‘From man'?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet. Matthew 3:17 (ESV) a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Mark 9:7 (ESV) a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” Ephesians 1:3–6 (ESV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. Hebrews 1:1–2 (ESV) Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son Psalm 36:1–2 (ESV) Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV) And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
In preparing the sermon this week I found myself asking, “Is it right to speak of the reward of discipleship?” It feels wrong to think of following and learning the way of Jesus because we want a prize at the end. Shouldn't the Christian desire to follow Jesus merely because it is the right thing to do? Because the Bible tells us so? Does discipleship lose its moral power if we pursue the way of Christ looking to a reward? Like a child who will only clean his room if he is promised a brownie for dessert. However, the more I prepared the more I saw that the word of God continually motivates discipleship by a promised reward. Jesus promises that those who are persecuted for following him should, “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,” (Matthew 5:12 ESV) Jesus encourages his followers to give self-sacrificially saying, “…your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4 ESV) And Jesus teaches that those who follow his life of love will be rewarded, “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great.” (Luke 6:35 ESV) Jesus does not avoid speaking of rewards, rather he is continually motivating his disciples to follow his way so that they might be richly rewarded. As we come to the end of our summer series on discipleship, we turn our focus to this reward that Jesus promises. What exactly is this reward and when do we receive it? What we will see is that the Word of God promises to reward those who follow Christ with entrance into the Kingdom of God, with all its blessings. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Hebrews 11-12:24, Psalm 16:11, Matthew 25:31-40, Mark 10:29-31, Colossians 3:23-24, and Westminster Confession of Faith 33.2.

Transcript: Hello, this is Pastor Don Willeman of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome the Kingdom Perspective. Increasingly, many from all different persuasions are tempted to become mere critics and complainers—trying to find fault and pin blame. However, this is not the roadmap the gospel gives. Jesus's way is not that of finger pointing or trying to score cheap political points. Rather, Jesus calls us to put our faith to work, bringing not only a positive and hopeful attitude into the public square—blessing where there is cursing—but also bringing our own time, treasure and talents to help those in need. How do we do this? Biblically speaking, this means upping your game to the shared ministry of your local church, so that the collective ministry of the gospel can flourish in your particular community. Your local church is God's embassy to your town. This means we must be careful to avoid bickering, whether in person or on social media. Rather, we must take up the burden of doing social good in the real world. For example, are there ways you can provide practical care to your fellow Christian or to your unbelieving neighbor? Are there ways, you can speak words of encouragement and reconciliation—that short-circuit the vitriol of the present moment? Are there ways you can increase your generosity? What I am suggesting is not some add-on tactic to make the gospel look good. Rather, what I am suggesting is absolutely intrinsic to the gospel itself. God so loved the world that he did not sit back in judgment and critique. Rather, He gave Himself for us. As Jesus himself put it: He did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life away for others. This is true Christianity, and those “infected” by it will be true to the pattern portrayed in it. Something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” ~ John 3:16-17 (ESV) “And Jesus called them to him and said to them, ‘You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” ~ Mark 10:42-45 (ESV)
1. Walk into the rebellion against your diehard sin knowing who is with you. Acts 4:1-13 (ESV)“And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand. On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, ‘By what power or by what name did you do this?' Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by Him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.' Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Matthew 9:35-36 (ESV)“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” 2. Bring Christ and His provision to bear on your beliefs and desires. Joshua 1:8 (ESV)“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” 3. Enter with joy into your struggle against destructive daily habits. One of those schemes is this: “Don't deal with your sin.” You can face sin instead of hiding it.You can own your sin instead of blaming others. You can accept your sin instead of making excuses. You can identify your sin as sin instead of minimizing it.You can acknowledge your sin instead of denying it.You can trust God with your sin instead of despairing. 4. Understand your real needs in the fight. Ephesians 4:17-24“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!—assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” The goal of our rebellion with sin is not that we would be better rule followers, but that we would be more faithful Christ lovers. 5. We are called to do the same for others.

We want Christmas to be perfect, lighting, music, decor and meals. Rowena has decorated our home incredibly Illus: Ben/Eldon’s perfect picture How many pictures/editing to get this picture? Is it accurate? It’s the sanitized version of the day. We’ve done the same to the Christmas Story Luke 2:6–7 (ESV) And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. TITLE: The Problem With Sanitizing PRAYER: “Wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger?” An extremely pregnant woman traveling days via donkey exposed to the elements.Traveling for a census, imposed by the Romans occupying their land: Roman citizens legally compel non-Roman to do almost anything Legally confiscate, property, require sexual favors and kill with no punishment ○ Execution was common and extreme, often for sporting purposes, including burning people alive, sewing then in animal skins and attacked by dogs, impalement, crucifixion Traveling with her fiance who broke off the engagement - the baby is not hisThey are traveling to his family’s region, and her pregnancy is scandalousUpon arrival, no room with family/friends - that says it all No room at the inn, gives birth in a stable, outside, animals, etcMedicine was poor. Diseases were rampant. Life expectancy was 40Placed the baby in a manger, a long open box or horses or cattle to eat fromHost of angels show up and absolutely terrify themMassive groups of shepherds keep showing up wanting to see the baby. Sanitizing: the process of enhancing the perception of a thing in order to make it more appealing and valuable. Shrewd marketingDeception -counterproductive to our best lives It turns it into Instagram story that is irrelevant to those of us living real lives in real situations, in a real world than glamor Sanitizing Is Not The Language Of The Kingdom. But Truth Is. The Bible might be the worst promotional book ever. If it were for a pamphlet for a cruise line, you would discover: Most captains unqualified to navigate boatsMost boats have significant health outbreaks Instances of staff mistreating passengersShips regularly under attack by pirates.Storms are frequentSome ships never make it to their destination. Consider Ananias/Sapphira Acts 4:34–35 (ESV) There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. Acts 5:1–5 (ESV) But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? They were sanitizing their life. They wanted to Impress othersThey wanted their giving to look bigger than it wasThey wanted to be connected to an elite groups Ananias/Sapphira were New Testament virtue signalers. To do something to be perceived as virtuous you otherwise would not do.To do something in public that you don’t do in private. Many of our current political leaders are guilty of this. Gaven Newsome and his medical officials laid out some of the most extreme lockdown measures in the country regarding social distancing, limiting exposure, banning inside dining at restaurants, suggesting you cancel thanksgiving and mask even while eating - but celebrating his birthday at a high end restaurant with over 20 of those same medical officials creating policy present, every one or them breaking every rule. His public and private life are contradictory. He’s virtue signaling. He’s sanitized His public persona because his private one would not be accepted. ● He’s also a man like me somewhere in the process of God - I’m believing for his BEST! COVID RELATED THOUGHTS FOR OUR CHURCH: Some have good reason to distance and not be in church Underlying health issues Around people with underlying health issues Around the infected and you are trying to protect others. Decided risk is too high We support you, Live Stream etc. Illus: Alison Welter Some have tremendous CONVICTION not to distance and to be in church in personConviction: gathering is the command of God Conviction: gathering is necessary for their well well-being and equippingConviction: gathering allows me to serve the well-being of others.Decided the risk is worth it. ● We support you. We will take the risk with you (physical, social and legal)Illus: 85 year old couple greeting families in Texas Choose your course, but don’t navigate like Gaven Newsome. It is double minded and hypocritical It will diminish your leadership influence in the lives of some It infects others with your same brand of duality Sanitizing Repels The Supernatural Work Of God. Truth Attracts It. When the imperfect is exposed to God, He races in to perfect it. James 5:16 (ESV) Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Transparency with the right people in the right environment unlocks the supernatural power of God. Declaring truth in love unlocks the perfecting work of God in lives. The truth about who you are The truth about who they are The truth about God The truth about God’s world Sanitizing any of the above leaves people trapped in their imperfection because we fail to faithfully proclaim a better option. Consider 3 Hebrews and Nebuchadnezzar, King was encouraged to demand people worship golden statue at sound of bandUnredeemed leaders crave power and control, not the best for their peopleThree young men who follow God - violates commandment 1 & 2, so they don’t bowLeft the country Steer clear of the idol and avoid taking a stand Bow down, but don’t mean it in your heart Bow down, repent later All examples of sanitizing. They refuse to bow, Nebuchadnezzar meets with them and demands they bow. Daniel 3:16–18 (ESV) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up. Fiery furnace is heated up They are thrown in Nebuchadnezzar notices four in the fire and calls them out Fire had no power over them, hair, clothes, no smoky smellDaniel 3:28–30 (ESV) Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon. When we risk declaring truth in love, up close, we unlock the perfecting work of God in peoples lives. Luke 5:13 (ESV) And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. Jesus benign born in such an imperfect environment Gives us confidence that He in your life and through your life can do the miraculous Don’t sanitize.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Luke 10:2 (ESV) "And Jesus said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.""
The first week of December, Andy Stanley stated the following. “If somebody can predict their own death and then their own resurrection, I'm not all that concerned about how they got into the world.” “Christianity doesn't hinge on the truth or even the stories around the Birth of Jesus.” Does it matter “Who” was born that day? Why and How? Also if people might struggle with the “incarnation story” wouldn't they also struggle with the “resurrection story”? 1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; [1Ti 3:16 ESV] Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. Necessity that God had to provide a solution to Genesis Rebellion The proto-evangelium — the first Gospel (e- van –gel – yum) [Gen 3:14 NASB] The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; [Gen 3:15 NASB] And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." More than a talking snake; Great Cosmic battle, where the seed of Eve will have the tactical advantage. Long Ago, many times, many ways, God spoke to our fathers. [Heb 1:1 ESV] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, [Heb 1:2 ESV] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Did He? Oh Yes! [Isa 9:6 ESV] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [Isa 9:7 ESV] Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. [Mat 1:22 ESV] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: [Mat 1:23 ESV] "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. [Heb 1:3 ESV] He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, [Heb 1:4 ESV] having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. [Heb 1:5 ESV] For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"? [Heb 1:6 ESV] And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him.” Why couldn't Jesus just step out of Heaven, go the cross and call it done? The necessity of a God/Man! [Heb 2:10 ESV] For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. [Heb 2:11 ESV] For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, [Heb 2:14 ESV] Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, [Heb 2:15 ESV] and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. [Heb 2:17 ESV] Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Propitiate 1. to make favorably inclined; appease; conciliate. [Heb 2:18 ESV] For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. [2Co 5:18 ESV] All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; [2Co 5:19 ESV] that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. “Jesus does this not only by dying the death we justly deserve but by living the life we should have lived.” Imputation: God imputes our sinful life to Jesus account and Imputes Jesus' Sinless life to our account. Federal Headship First Adam, Last Adam We are condemned with our Father Adam, We are Redeemed, through our Lord Jesus Christ. More Than That! [Rom 5:11 ESV] More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. The Son of Man Must Suffer [Mar 8:27 ESV] And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" [Mar 8:28 ESV] And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets." [Mar 8:29 ESV] And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Christ." [Mar 8:30 ESV] And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. [Mar 8:31 ESV] And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. The “Who” is important! The Son of Man; The Messiah! MUST SUFFER Also, Matt 1 & Luke 3:23; Emphasis that Jesus had to be of the line of David. Why all the work to demonstrate Who Jesus was, if it's not important? When Joseph heard that Mary was pregnant, Joseph was considering to call of the marriage. [Mat 1:20 NASB] But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. [Mat 1:21 NASB] "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." It matters very much “Who” and it matters “How”! John the Baptist, [Jhn 1:29 NASB] The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! One more thing! Be Thankful that God chose you to understand! Who are we? [Luk 2:10 NASB] But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; Just like the blue collar works of Jesus' time. God sent angels to shepherds who were working outside of town, working the night shift. Of all the smart and popular and famous people, [1Co 2:12 ESV] Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. God gathered you here at this church at this time, His Christmas morning, so we can celebrate! So that you may know truths that is hidden from the “wise of this world”. God wants you to know that a Savior is Born! Who is Messiah! The Lord! The kü'-rē-os “cor-re-aws” Christmas 2016 More presentations from Jeff Rossignol
Reformation Sunday: The Five Solas During the 16th Century. The reformers were protesting Protestants . Protestors against Catholicism. Battle Lines: Authority: Church Authority VS Biblical Authority Salvation: Synergy VS Monergy. God's Word is interconnected. You can't talk about one theology with it leading to another theology. The Five Guides protect us from man-made religion which war against Jesus Christ. The goal of the world is simple Anything but Jesus Christ. Pagan religions, secular humanism. Or Jesus Christ +. . . . . Cults, heresies, TBN, prosperity preachers Sola Scriptura - Scripture alone [2Ti 3:16 ESV] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [2Ti 3:17 ESV] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Concerning divisions in the church: [1Co 4:6 ESV] I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. Written Word Inspired by the Holy Spirit. [2Pe 1:19 ESV] And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, [2Pe 1:20 ESV] knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. [2Pe 1:21 ESV] For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Sola Christus - Christ alone Jesus Christ is the only mediator. Penal Substitutionary atonement [Jhn 14:5 ESV] Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" [Jhn 14:6 ESV] Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. [Jhn 14:7 ESV] If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him." [1Ti 2:5 ESV] For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, [1Ti 2:6 ESV] who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. Sola Gratia - Grace alone Unmerited Grace: [Eph 2:8 ESV] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [Eph 2:9 ESV] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [Eph 2:10 ESV] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. God saved me, Despite Me, not because of me. [Psa 14:2 ESV] The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. [Psa 14:3 ESV] They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Paul Reveals how Grace Works. [2Co 12:9 ESV] But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [2Co 12:10 ESV] For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. Sola Fide - Faith alone [Rom 5:1 ESV] Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. [Rom 5:2 ESV] Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. You do not create faith. God gives you Faith [Rom 12:3 ESV] For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. [1Co 12:9 ESV] to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, The Disciples Ask Jesus for more Faith. [Luk 17:5 ESV] The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" [Luk 17:6 ESV] And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. [Mar 9:23 ESV] And Jesus said to him, "'If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes." [Mar 9:24 ESV] Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!" [Heb 12:1 ESV] Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, [Heb 12:2 ESV] looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Soli Deo Gloria - the Glory of God alone Definition of Glory: noun, plural glories 1. very great praise, honor, or distinction bestowed by common consent;renown: to win glory on the field of battle. 2. something that is a source of honor, fame, or admiration; adistinguished ornament or an object of pride: a sonnet that is one of the glories of English poetry. 3. adoring praise or worshipful thanksgiving: Give glory to God. 4. resplendent beauty or magnificence: the glory of autumn. Here is a clue if your theology is heading the wrong way. You make the case for some inherited goodness. When I. . . But Then I . . . . I am so thankful I. . . . . It should be. When God. . . . In His Mercy, God. . . . . But then God. . . . . [1Pe 2:24 ESV] He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. [1Pe 2:25 ESV] For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. An Angel declares to the World. Fear God & Give Him Glory! [Rev 14:6 ESV] Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. [Rev 14:7 ESV] And he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give Him Glory, because the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water." [Jhn 15:7 ESV] If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. [Jhn 15:8 ESV] By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. [Jhn 15:9 ESV] As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. [Jhn 15:10 ESV] If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. [Jhn 15:11 ESV] These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. Jesus' after Judas went off to betray Him. [Jhn 13:31 ESV] When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. [Jhn 13:32 ESV] If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. [Psa 96:4 ESV] For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. [Psa 96:5 ESV] For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. [Psa 96:6 ESV] Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. [Psa 96:7 ESV] Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! [Psa 96:8 ESV] Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come into His courts! [Psa 96:9 ESV] Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth! [Psa 96:10 ESV] Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity." [Psa 96:11 ESV] Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; [Psa 96:12 ESV] let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy [Psa 96:13 ESV] before the LORD, for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in His faithfulness. [1Co 10:31 ESV] So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Christology 7 building His church, interceding for us, and reigning over all things. Jesus Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name forever. Building His Church, [Mat 16:16 ESV] Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." [Mat 16:17 ESV] And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. [Mat 16:18 ESV] And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Visible & Invisible Church. The Visible church is evidence of the Invisible Church. What about all the different denominations? Prepping for hunting season, you walk in the woods and look for evidence of deer. Tracks, scat and scrapings. The Invisible Church On the hunt for new creations. Strange People. [2Co 5:16 ESV] From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. [2Co 5:17 ESV] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Interceding for us, [1Ti 2:5 ESV] For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, [1Ti 2:6 ESV] who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. Those people. . . People who can't seem to leave their religion in the church. Offer to pray for someone. Invite them to church. Everyone knows they go to church all the time. DO NOT SIN, like everyone else is doing. [2Co 5:20 ESV] Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. [2Co 5:21 ESV] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Visible Church [Act 2:41 ESV] So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. [Act 2:42 ESV] And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 1. My relationship to Jesus does not depend upon being a member of a local church. 2. However, my relationship to Jesus as my King, demands that I be involved in a local church, not just a member, but involved. The question you want to have settled in your heart. Are you part of the invisible church? Does Jesus own you, rule over you, and command you and do you push forward to obey? I am Christian because Jesus saved me. Invisible I'm an involved Member of a local church because Jesus commands it. Visible. You cannot be a Christian and miss church for long. God commands you belong to a local church. Hebrews 10:24-25 http://www.relevantmagazine.com/current/global/christian-persecution-china-even-worse-you-thought In China; It's unprecedented persecution against the Church, where church leaders are going to prison, are being sent to mental institutions, are being beaten and tortured and where crosses have been forcibly removed from now over 1,800 churches since 2014. Why do you come to church? Why label yourself as a Christian? Consider why you might miss church? Jesus Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name forever.
