"A twenty-first-century form of ancient wisdom . . . Mitchell's flights, his paradoxes, his wonderful riffs are brilliant and liberating." -Pico Iyer The most widely translated book in world literature after the Bible, Lao-tzu's Tao Te Ching, or Book of the Way, is the classic manual on the art of living. Following the phenomenal success of his own version of the Tao Te Ching, renowned scholar and translator Stephen Mitchell has composed the innovative The Second Book of the Tao. Drawn from the work of Lao-tzu's disciple Chuang- tzu and Confucius's grandson Tzu-ssu, The Second Book of the Tao collects the freshest, most profound teachings from these two great students of the Tao to offer Western readers a path into reality that has nothing to do with east or west, but everything to do with truth. With his own illuminating commentary alongside each adaptation, at once explicating and complementing the text, Mitchell makes the ancient teachings at once modern, relevant, and timeless. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Backyardblessings/support

Hey guys! If you have been following me on my podcast I would like to invite you to listen to this next episode on Absolute Truth. My friend Josiah continues to ask me questions regarding Relative Truth versus Absolute Truth. Despite our differences in beliefs we get dig deep into our perspectives. Josiah shares from a perspective using a timeline as an example to verify that things have happened at certain points in history in which those things can be said to be absolutes regardless of when, where and who you are in the world or your beliefs system. In my explanation I explain how regardless of the events it is always our perspective, opinion and definitions personally that determines how this information impacts us. Absolute does not matter until you make it matter or assign to it a definition. We are constantly changing our minds because of our experiences, education and the process of life at each age. We are never the same and are constantly making different choices. That is the only absolute. So in conclusion I think we can say that what is absolute is relative only to the present moment and my current understanding. You are currently reading this sentence. The definition you assign about what you are reading is your personal relative absolute. It would appear that both exist simultaneously. Either way matters not accept the definition you give it. It is in that dimension that with the faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains. You always have the choice. We always redefine the terms. Your limitations are not mine and mine are not yours. The things that seem present and steady course are still subject to interpretation. For example gravity. Even though it seems to never change it is a principle which is defied. Birds fly. We fly with the use of technology. So it matters not the one dimensional perspective. Telling the mountain to jump into the see with mustard see faith defies absolutes. Perspective is key. There is always more to behold. It appears that absolutes are perspective related. It reveals the truth that is in the eye of the beholder. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Backyardblessings/support
Without empathy our perspective of love would be very limited. Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to place oneself in another's position. - Wikipedia definition. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Backyardblessings/support

As many of you may know, about a year and a half ago my family and I made the decision to leave the church. Since then I have had the pleasure of discussing my journey with several friends. The most healthy dialogue has been with my close friend Josiah. In part 2 of 5 I continue to share my expanded perspective of God as we talk about John 3:16. I encourage you to not get sidetracked by the word expanded. It is a reference to the Word being alive and how light continues to shine. That implies continued growing and understanding regarding eternal truths. I believe everything stated by me in these podcasts are true of us all. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Backyardblessings/support
