In this episode, Tony Overbay, LMFT, dives into the complexities of perception, truth, and emotional maturity. He explores how individuals often encounter differing viewpoints—especially in today's social media-driven world—and how those experiences can lead to frustration, confusion, and even self-doubt. Rita, the host of Catholic Girl on the Radio, discussed Mark chapter 10, verses 28-31, emphasizing the importance of understanding God's word and letting go of attachments to deepen one's spiritual connection. She explored various commentaries and personal experiences to illustrate the challenges and rewards of prioritizing faith over worldly ties. Rita concluded by highlighting the spiritual nature of rewards promised to disciples and the potential for persecution in the face of faith. 00:00 Exploring Mark Chapter 10 VersesRita, the host of the Catholic Girl on the Radio show, discussed Mark chapter 10, verses 28-31, focusing on the Gospel of St. Mark. She emphasized the importance of understanding the Word of God and delving into its deeper meaning. Rita also invited listeners to join her in a prayer, seeking the grace to be attentive to God's word and to gain a deeper understanding of their relationship with Him. She expressed her belief that one can only truly know oneself through God, who created them. 02:18 Letting Go of Attachments for ChristRita discussed the importance of letting go of even small attachments, using Peter's example of leaving everything to follow Jesus. She emphasized that these attachments can emotionally bind us, hindering our connection with Christ. She also examined the story of the rich man, highlighting that while he did not leave everything, his reward would have been greater if he had followed Jesus. 05:28 Letting Go of Small AttachmentsRita discussed the importance of letting go of small attachments that bind us emotionally, which can hinder our spiritual growth. She used the example of coffee addiction and the practice of giving up small things during Lent. Rita emphasized that it's not the quantity of what we give up, but the willingness to let go, that matters. She shared her personal practice of reflecting on her failures before confession to identify areas where she needs to let go. Rita concluded by stating that the more frequently we practice letting go of small attachments, the easier it becomes to not build attachment to the big things. 11:33 Jesus' Call for Spiritual LoveRita discussed Clement of Alexandria's commentary on a biblical verse, emphasizing Jesus' call for disciples to love God more than their own lives. Rita clarified that Jesus' words were not about literal hatred for family members but about prioritizing the spiritual over the earthly. She explained that Jesus' message was counterintuitive to societal norms, encouraging detachment from earthly ties to focus on the deeper, spiritual love offered by God. 15:55 Faith, Persecution, and Spiritual FamilyRita discusses the concept of giving up possessions and loved ones for Christ, emphasizing the importance of remaining faithful during persecution and tribulations. She explains that those who follow Christ often find a new spiritual family that supports them, even in times of hardship. Rita shares a personal testimony of a man who experienced healing at Lourdes, France, after suffering from a knee injury, highlighting the power of faith and the potential for miracles.21:13 Exploring Faith, Miracles, and RewardsRita discussed the story of St. Bernadette and Ernie Negrete, emphasizing God's role as a healer and provider of miracles. She also highlighted the blessings of obedience and the hospitality Christians receive from other believers. Rita then shared commentaries from St. Bede and St. John Cassian, discussing their perspectives on faith and rewards. St. Bede argued against a literal interpretation of the "thousand years" in the Bible, suggesting a spiritual increase instead.27:10 Maintaining Zeal and Spiritual FocusRita discussed the importance of maintaining zeal and focus in one's spiritual journey, emphasizing the need to use knowledge of the Word of God as a foundation for faith rather than a facade.

The conversation draws parallels to the biblical story of Joshua and Rahab, reminding us that God's plan often unfolds in unexpected ways. We're challenged to consider how we can create a safe space for open dialogue about faith, values, and life's complexities within our families. The use of tools like conversation boxes and games to facilitate these discussions offers practical ways for us to engage with our loved ones on deeper spiritual matters. As we reflect on this, we're encouraged to examine our own approach to parenting and mentoring, always seeking to lead with love, wisdom, and an understanding that God's grace extends to all of us in our imperfections. - Connect with: Pastor Aaron Levy https://www.instagram.com/_aaronlevy/ Pastor Sanaz Mesa https://www.instagram.com/sanazmesa/?hl=en Pastor Erica Levy https://www.instagram.com/erica.levy_np/ Nancy Navas https://www.instagram.com/nancysnavas/ -- Don't forget to stay connected with us: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFg Instagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/ Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter -- Have a question? First up, we welcomed back Sarah Arthur, the author of the "Once a Queen" and "Once a Castle" YA fantasy novels. Sarah shared the fascinating backstory behind her latest novel, "Once a Castle," and how it evolved from the "book of her heart" to the "book of her sweat and blood." We learned about her creative process, including the challenges of juggling multiple perspectives and characters, and how she drew inspiration from the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien. But Sarah's insights went beyond the writing itself, as she delved into the role of faith, divine inspiration, and community in the creative journey. She offered thought-provoking perspectives on the balance between skill and spontaneity, and how even the most seasoned authors can be surprised by their own characters. Next, we had the pleasure of chatting with Chelsea Chong Kim, the author of the delightful children's book "Carol the Carrot Bowls for the Salad Bowl." Chelsea shared the personal experiences and values that inspired her to create this heartwarming tale, from her time as a teacher to her passion for embracing diversity. Abby's new book, Film for All Seasons: Experiencing the Church Year at the Movies, forms the crux of this stimulating discussion, inviting listeners to see movies as more than mere entertainment but as avenues for spiritual and cultural introspection. The conversation begins with a delightful nod to the upcoming Paddington 3, encouraging listeners to revisit the first two charming installments. Abby then introduces Joyeux Noel, bringing a poignant cinematic portrayal of the World War I Christmas truce into the fold. This sets the stage for a deeper dive into the themes of Lent, where Abby explains her thoughtful selection of films like "Annihilation" and "Groundhog Day" to navigate through themes of mortality, repentance, and self-awareness.As Doug shares his fascination with liturgical rhythms and their underappreciation in American low church traditions, Abby enriches the dialogue with insights from her church background, reflecting influences from her time as an Episcopal ministry intern. They bond over the transformative power of films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Fast and Furious 6 in embodying ecclesiastical themes of diversity and unity, particularly resonating with the spirit of Pentecost.Exploring the evolving landscape of film criticism, Abby passionately argues for the importance of historical context in understanding movies. A robust discussion unfolds around how classic films like Top Gun and Night of the Hunter reflect societal attitudes of their times, paralleling her views on the lasting influence of well-crafted narratives. The show takes an intriguing turn as Doug and Abby delve into contemporary television's shift towards streaming, critiquing the impact of immediate performance metrics on long-form storytelling. They appreciate the quality and richness of limited series on platforms like Apple TV, using Blackbird and Bad Monkey as exemplary cases.Abby's narratives come full circle as she illustrates how films can serve as spiritual reflections for themes churches might miss, inspiring hope, love, and inclusivity. This episode is a treasure trove for listeners, whether cinephiles, faith-seekers, or both, offering unique perspectives on how movies like Paddington, The Last Jedi, and The Bishop's Wife can enrich one's spiritual journey.Audio Production by Podsworth Media - https://podsworth.com ★ Support this podcast ★

There's a great investing option out there, and chances are, it's not in your portfolio. That option is Exchange-Traded Funds or ETFs, and they're worth considering. Brian Mumbert joins us today to discuss the advantages of ETFs.Brian Mumbert is Vice President and Regional Sales Executive at Timothy Plan, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. What is an ETF?An Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) is an investment option similar to a mutual fund but with distinct features. ETFs typically follow an index, such as the S&P 500 or NASDAQ, and are not actively managed. This means that an ETF holds a broad mix of investments, providing diversification that tracks the chosen index. One key advantage is that ETFs, like stocks, can be traded throughout the day, allowing investors to buy or sell at the current market price. How Do ETFs Differ from Mutual Funds?Unlike mutual funds, where the exact purchase price isn't known until the end of the trading day, ETFs offer real-time pricing. This flexibility allows investors to trade whenever they choose during market hours. Additionally, mutual funds may pass on capital gains taxes to investors due to asset sales by fund managers, but ETFs generally avoid this by trading “baskets” of stocks, potentially reducing tax liability.Transparency and Tax AdvantagesETFs offer high transparency, with daily disclosures of their holdings. This transparency is a significant benefit for investors who prioritize clarity in where their money goes. Tax advantages are another key feature; ETFs often avoid capital gains taxes, which can be passed on to mutual fund holders, especially during high turnover periods.Faith-Based Screening for ETFsTimothy Plan applies the same rigorous faith-based screening to its ETFs as it does to its mutual funds. These screenings filter out companies that conflict with Christian values. While ETFs are passively managed, which can mean a slight delay in removing non-compliant holdings, Timothy Plan flags them for removal to ensure alignment with their mission. This gives investors peace of mind, knowing their ETF investments are held to the same ethical standards as other Timothy Plan products.Lower Cost, Greater AccessibilityETFs offer a lower expense ratio than some mutual funds for investors looking for a cost-effective entry into faith-based investing. This affordability can make ETFs an attractive option for individuals who may be deterred by higher fees and a practical choice for adding diversified exposure to one's portfolio.Visit TimothyPlan.com for more details on Timothy Plan's offerings, including faith-based ETFs and mutual funds. With over 30 years of experience, Timothy Plan provides a reliable option for investors who want to align their finances with their faith. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 60 years old and want to retire early at 62. Exploring Faith: 10 Truths, Experiencing The Creator #RTTBROS #Nightlight The Creator 1 In the Beginning - The Foundation of All Things Key Verses: Genesis 1:1-5, John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:16-17 Opening Meditation: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." These powerful words establish the foundation of our worldview. Before time, space, and matter existed, God was. He spoke, and everything came into being. Main Study: The biblical account teaches that God created everything in six literal days. This first day established fundamental elements of our universe: - Time ("In the beginning") - Space ("the heavens") - Matter ("the earth") - Energy/Light ("Let there be light") Personal Reflection: - How does knowing that God created everything from nothing impact your trust in Him? - What does it mean for your daily life that the same God who spoke the universe into existence cares about you personally? Today's Scientific Connection: The First Law of Thermodynamics states that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed in natural processes. This scientific law aligns perfectly with Genesis - there had to be a supernatural Creator to bring everything into existence from nothing. Prayer Focus: Thank God for being the ultimate source of everything. Praise Him for His power and wisdom displayed in creation. Daily Application: Write down three examples you observe today of design in creation that couldn't have happened by chance. #Creation #ChristianFaith #BiblicalTruth Be sure to Like, Share, Follow and subscribe it helps get the word out. https://linktr.ee/rttbros

Exploring Faith: 10 Truths, Experiencing Christ 3 #RTTBROS #Nightlight The Great High Priest "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession." - Hebrews 4:14 In the Old Testament, the high priest stood between God and man, offering sacrifices for sin. But Jesus serves as our perfect High Priest in an extraordinary way – He is both the priest offering the sacrifice and the sacrifice itself! This truth transforms how we approach God. We don't need human mediators or repeated sacrifices. Christ's perfect life qualifies Him to represent us before God, and His sacrificial death satisfies God's justice fully and finally. Consider these magnificent truths: - He can sympathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15) - He ever lives to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25) - He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities (Hebrews 4:15) Today's Application: Reflect on a current struggle. How does knowing Jesus understands human weakness while possessing divine power change your perspective? Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my perfect High Priest. Help me come boldly to Your throne of grace, knowing You understand and care. Amen. --- Series Reflection Questions: 1. How has your understanding of Jesus's divine nature deepened? 2. What aspects of Christ's humanity most comfort you? 3. How does seeing Jesus as both God and man impact your daily walk with Him? Remember, knowing Christ isn't merely accumulating facts – it's developing a relationship with the One who is both our Creator and Brother, our God and Friend, our Judge and Advocate. That's somewhat like our challenge in knowing God – until Jesus came. Christ is "the express image" of God's person, making the invisible God visible. In Christ, we see: - God's power: Calming storms and raising the dead - God's wisdom: Teaching eternal truths through simple parables - God's love: Touching lepers and dying for sinners - God's holiness: Confronting sin while offering grace The historical Jesus walked dusty roads, felt hunger, and shed real tears. Yet this same Jesus commanded nature, forgave sins, and rose from the dead. He bridges the infinite gap between God and man because He is both. Today's Application: Read Mark 4:35-41. Notice both Christ's humanity (sleeping) and deity (calming the storm). How does this dual nature comfort you in your current circumstances? Prayer: Jesus, thank You for revealing the Father to me. The mystery of Christ's incarnation stretches our minds beyond human comprehension, yet it stands as the cornerstone of our faith. When John declares Jesus as "the Word," he reveals something profound: Jesus is God's ultimate self-expression. Just as our words reveal our thoughts, Jesus reveals the Father's heart. He isn't merely a good teacher or prophet – He is God Himself, stepping into His own creation. Consider how the Word "was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:14). The Greek word for "dwelt" literally means "to pitch a tent." Just as God's presence dwelt in the tabernacle among Israel, Jesus pitched His tent in human flesh to dwell among us. Today's Application: Read Colossians 1:15-20 slowly. List every divine attribute of Christ you find. Let these truths deepen your worship. Exploring Faith: 10 Truths, LOVE 3 #RTTBROS #Nightlight Love in Action "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 (KJV) Love isn't just a feeling - it's a verb. The most famous verse in Scripture doesn't tell us that God so felt love for the world, but that He so loved that He gave. Divine love always manifests in action. Consider the cross - the ultimate demonstration of love in action. Jesus didn't just profess His love; He proved it through sacrifice. His hands, feet, and side bore the physical marks of divine love made tangible. This sets the pattern for our own expression of love. When we truly understand God's active love, our own love naturally becomes more active. We stop just feeling compassion and start showing it. We move beyond emotional responses to practical expressions. Our love becomes less about what we feel and more about what we do. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for demonstrating active love through Your sacrifice. Help me move beyond feeling love to showing love. Guide me in expressing Your love through tangible actions today. Give me opportunities to demonstrate Your love in practical ways. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18 (KJV) Imagine a small child afraid of the dark. What calms their fears? The presence of a loving parent. This simple truth reflects a profound spiritual reality - God's perfect love has the power to dissolve our deepest fears. Fear and love are like oil and water - they cannot coexist in their fullest forms. When we truly grasp God's love for us, fear loses its grip. Think of Peter walking on water - he only began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus and gave in to fear. The antidote wasn't trying harder not to be afraid, but rather focusing more intently on the One who loved him perfectly. God's perfect love isn't just a warm feeling - it's a fortress of protection, a foundation of identity, and a fountain of courage. When we know we're perfectly loved by the Creator of the universe, what earthly circumstance can truly threaten us? Prayer: Loving Father, help me experience Your perfect love so deeply that it drives out all fear. When anxiety creeps in, remind me of Your unchanging love. Let Your love be my courage today. Amen. #FearlessFaith #PerfectLove #GodsCourage Be sure to Like, Share, Follow and subscribe it helps get the word out. https://linktr.ee/rttbros

Below is the first instalment of a month long series where we will delve into 10 Tremendous truths that are the foundation of our faith walk Exploring Faith: 10 Truths, LOVE 1 #RTTBROS #Nightlight The Language of Love - Understanding Agape "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." - 1 John 4:7 (KJV) Have you ever tried to describe the taste of salt to someone who's never experienced it? Similarly, human language often falls short when describing divine love. The Greeks, in their wisdom, used different words for love, but none captured the essence of God's love quite like "agape." While we often love based on merit or attraction, God's agape love flows freely, unconditionally, and sacrificially. Think of a mother who loves her newborn - the baby hasn't done anything to earn this love, yet it's profound and unshakeable. Now multiply that love infinitely, and you begin to glimpse God's heart toward us. Christ demonstrated this love not through mere words, but through the ultimate sacrifice. He didn't wait for us to become lovable - "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). This is agape in action - loving the unlovable, reaching the unreachable, forgiving the unforgivable. Prayer: Father, help me grasp the depth of Your agape love. Transform my human capacity for love into something that reflects Your divine nature. Let me be a vessel of Your unconditional love to others today. Amen. #AgapeLove #GodsPerfectLove #LoveLikeJesus

We'll share humorous and insightful stories, like Ed Orgeron's memorable exit from LSU, to highlight the importance of recognizing Jesus as the true gateway to spiritual fulfillment, contrasting it with the Pharisees' misguided attempts at self-righteousness. Navigating the chaos of life's distractions can make hearing God's voice feel daunting. Hear how aligning with scripture can illuminate your path, as illustrated with relatable stories of choosing colleges or ministries. We also delve into the fascinating tale of Dr. Lyle Dorsett, whose passion for history led to an extraordinary World War II museum, underscoring the unique ways people express their gifts and callings. As we reflect on Psalm 23, the metaphor of Jesus as the door becomes more poignant. We explore themes of spiritual security, abundance, and faith's protective power against evil influences. I invite you to continues our exploration of the French words for hope, "espoir" and "esperance," and to dive deeper into their biblical and cultural significance. Scripture draws parallels between the biblical story of Babel in Genesis 11 and the unifying power of hope in Christ. God orchestrated Scripture to be translatable in all languages, which reverses the curse of Babel and offers the potential in Christ to unite us under the banner of hope. As I was researching the connections between "espoir" and "esperance," I was blown away to discover two verses in Scripture that hold both verses together. They have much to tell us, as we too hold both "espoir" and "esperance" in our own hearts. The first, in the Old Testament, unveils the significance of Job's despair and his quest for true hope; the second, in the New Testament, highlights Paul's profound insights into the essence of hope. These complementary perspectives on hope, stemming from Job, the oldest book in the Bible, and 1st Timothy, one of Paul's last letters, ground us deeply in our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. But Esperance is fading from the French landscape. So, I asked both Christian and non-Christian French friends and family members about the influence of Esperance in their lives today. The answers are striking, and I want to invite you to discover them with me – so that you too can form your own informed experience of Esperance in Christ. It has much to do with a deeply felt experience of despair apart from Esperance. Next, I invite you to (re)discover a famous French thinker and author, Blaise Pascal, to embrace the delicate interplay between reason, faith, and mystery. Through Pascal's eloquent words and profound insights, let's see what we can learn about the transformative potential of faith and reason working in harmony. The emphasis on humility, the coexistence of science and faith, and the acknowledgement of the limitations of human understanding in the life and work of Blaise Pascal inspire contemplation and introspection, encouraging us to explore the depths of our beliefs with open hearts and minds. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image.
