Every faith community is called to build and cultivate. And B4 is no exception. We're called to build a place of hope, healing, freedom, and flourishing. It's a big job that will invite opposition in many forms, like for example, disunity and distractions. Much as Nehemiah did, we will face varied opposition as the enemy […]
Disunity is one of the biggest struggles in relationships, and a house divided cannot stand. In this message, Pastor Jason Sharpe dives into Genesis 16 to explore how unresolved conflict and unclear communication can create division. Through Ephesians 4:2-3, we learn that humility, gentleness, patience, and love are key to maintaining unity. Are we prioritizing our pursuit of Christ in our relationships? Are we investing time in building deeper connections? Watch as we unpack how the Holy Spirit holds all things together (Colossians 1:17) and how we can strengthen our relationships by fighting for unity!

Acts 11 - Speaker: Josh MacAvoy - As the early church grew in number and spread to new cities, there was an opportunity for great rejoicing but also great criticism. People who used to never interact, had generational hatred and deep suspicion towards each other are joining the same faith. Now they are being called to worship and work together. And this fertile soil for gospel growth is also a space for potential criticism, isolation and suspicion. But if criticism and factions are allowed to grow in the fledgling church, it will have a disastrous effect. Disunity amongst believers will get in the way of God's great rescue plan and His mission to make one new people of faith. So, what is needed? Gospel Unity. And in Acts 11, we find the early church being called to that very thing. Through His Word and by His Spirit, God is calling His people to hold tightly to the Gospel and not anything else. Read Acts 11 in preparation for our time together tomorrow.

Pastor Dru emphasizes the importance of holding fast to the true gospel message amidst a world that often distorts it. He highlights the dangers of altering the gospel to fit personal desires and reminds believers of the steadfast truth as explained by Paul in Galatians.
Hubris, an excessive pride in oneself, is a common trait among history's greatest figures. In the decades that followed the death of Alexander the Great, the Diadochi "successors" fought each other for control of the vast empire their leader had built. In the end, the unity created by the mighty king fell to ruin and led to the rise of an even greater power in the Mediterranean world. Join us as we discuss the Diadochi successors, learn the lessons of history and the dangers of hubris, and walk with us through history in fifteen minutes. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/15minutehistory/support

[Luke 11:15-26, Friday of the 27th Week in the Ordinary Time]
Philippians 2:12-16 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. The Manner Worthy of the Gospel: Unity Philippians 1:27 Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ...as you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel. The Problem of Disunity: v.1414 Do everything without grumbling or arguingChristian Life: Becoming more like Jesus (vv. 12-13) continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Clarification: What does it mean to be saved? How do we work out our salvation daily? Repentance to the Father v.12 "continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling..." I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Remembrance of the Son I Corinthians 15:1-4Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures... Dependence on the Holy Spirit Philippians 1:6 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:15-1615 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.
Hey there, Parents! Today on Better Together, we're talking about something that's super important but can be really tough: being on the same page in your parenting. We've definitely made our fair share of mistakes in this area, especially early on in our marriage. For us it often seemed to center around discipline...we just weren't on the same wavelength! Yeah, it wasn't pretty. But we've learned that when it comes to parenting, unity is key. Having those tough conversations behind closed doors and presenting a united front to our kids is essential. Disunity can create a wedge between you and your spouse, and it can leave your kids feeling confused and insecure. So, let's talk about how to bridge the gap, find common ground, and work together to raise happy, healthy, and faithful kids!Let's do this together!

Nāgārjuna (c. 150-250), founder of the Madhyamaka or Middle Way school of Buddhist philosophy and the most influential of all Buddhist thinkers aside from the Buddha himself, concludes his masterpiece, Fundamental Verses on the Middle Way, with these baffling verses: For the abandonment of all views He taught the true teaching By means of compassion I salute him, Gautama But how could anyone possibly abandon all views? In Buddhism Between Religion and Philosophy: Nāgārjuna and the Ethics of Emptiness (Oxford UP, 2024), Rafal K. Stepien shows not only how Nāgārjuna's radical teaching of no-view or “abelief” makes sense within his Buddhist philosophy, but also how it stands at the summit of his religious mission to care for all living beings. Rather than treating any one aspect of Nāgārjuna's ideas in isolation, here his metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics emerge as a single coherent and convincing philosophical-religious system of thought and practice. Grounded in meticulous study of original texts from classical India and China but innovating on the theories and methods underpinning contemporary scholarship East and West, this study shows how profoundly important voices from the diverse religious and philosophical traditions of the world have until now been diminished, distorted, and silenced. In opening up truly global horizons of existing and co-existing in the world, this work challenges the very ways in which we think about religion and philosophy. * Elucidates Nāgārjuna's thought in its Buddhist context, integrating his views on belief and intention, language and mind, action and attachment, selfhood and suffering, violence and peace, emptiness and Buddhahood * Presents a trenchant critique of the Christian and Western assumptions still dominating the study of religion and philosophy today * Introduces and clarifies ideas of pivotal importance to the history of Buddhist thought in India, Tibet, China, and Japan Readers may also find a related edited volume equally fascinating, Buddhist Literature as Philosophy and Buddhist Philosophy as Literature Prof. Rafal Stepien is also leading a collaborative project, " The Ethics of Empty Beliefs: Chinese Buddhist Philosophy in the ‘Period of Disunity'" that has openings for postdocs and will host several workshops on studies of Sanlun and its influences in Sinophone spheres. Sunday 9.15.2024, 10:30 AM Pastor Mark Jackson A Recipe for Disunity Unity We Stand Towne Church
Disunity will hurt a church. Maybe even destroy it. That's why Jesus said, “If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand” (Mark 3:25). Why then is Sunday morning at eleven, like Martin Luther said, the most segregated hour of the week? We can be unifiers, or we can be dividers. Let's rejoice with everyone who calls on the name of the Lord.
As Israel buries six hostages murdered by Hamas in Gaza, along with three police officers murdered near Hebron, the county is in the midst of a one day labor union strike, to protest government policies. At the same time, thousands of protestors are in the streets calling on the government to reach a ceasefire deal/hostage exchange with Hamas. And who is paying the closest attention to what is happening in Israel? HAMAS. The enemies of Israel know the best time to strike is when we are not united. On today's Israel Uncensored, Josh Hasten breaks down the latest heartbreaking news from Israel, and discusses the importance of a united front against our enemies.

In this episode, we kick things off by exploring the deep divides within the Arab world, tracing the roots of these fractures back to the early 19th century when two competing visions for Arab unity emerged. One vision, anchored in religious conservatism, sought to unify Arabs under the strict interpretation of Islam, as seen in the rise of the House of Saud and Wahhabism. The other vision, driven by figures like Muhammad Ali Pasha in Egypt, looked forward—envisioning a modern, secular, and industrialized Arab world. As we delve into these historical tensions, we connect them to the present day, questioning why Arab nations struggle to present a united front in times of crisis, like the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Alongside this, we touch on the broader geopolitical implications, from the influence of outside powers to the challenges of creating a cohesive Arab identity. It's a conversation that sheds light on the complex interplay of history, religion, and modernity in shaping the Middle East today.Pre-order Money: A Story of Humanity here: https://linktr.ee/moneydavidmcwilliams Join the gang! https://plus.acast.com/s/the-david-mcwilliams-podcast. Ephesians 4:1-2 After three solid chapters of rich doctrinal truth, Paul finally aims at application. In fact, chapters 4-6 are all about applying biblical truth. What is surprising is that Paul begins the biblical application with an appeal for believers to guard the unity we share because of the Holy Spirit. Like a belt, peace holds us together!
We find ourselves living in the Age of Disunity. Now, more than ever, the mother's milk of politics is bullshit. This applies much more to some political parties than others. Boy, does it.Listen, I watched all of Donald Trump's historically weird acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, otherwise known as Nuremberg for Dummies. That über über gathering in Milwaukee was notable among American political conventions for the placard handouts that got right to the point -- "MASS DEPORTATION NOW."Sieg heil, y'all. This is the American milieu from which 3 Chords & the Truth emerges every week. You sometimes wonder whether doing this thing, amid this level of ugly every week, amounts to whistling past a national graveyard.Oh, yeah. Some 20-year-old nutter attempted to assassinate Trump last week. So there's that.I absolutely cannot wait for what lies ahead . . . said no one ever the past few years. Then we have the Democrats trying to force a diminished and doddering Joe Biden off the ballot. The niceties disappear when the stakes are existential, and losing may be death.Ready for some music yet?Ready or not, here it is, and it's damn good. As usual. In times like these, you have to keep on keepin' on -- until you can't. We'll keep the eclectic wonderfulness of the Big Show coming . . . until we can't.It's that kind of America right now. It's 3 Chords & the Truth, y'all. Be there. Aloha.
Unity is not an option in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the very thing that Jesus himself prayed his followers would have to mirror the Godhead in John 17. We in the church have an awesome responsibility to maintain the unity that God has already provided us with the means that He has prescribed. Listen as Pastor David presents from Ephesians 4:1-6… I-Unity is Given to us by God DirectlyII-Unity is to be Guarded by us DevotionallyIII-Disunity is to be Gravely Dealt With

Plus, Why Trump's properties can't save him from his massive bond problem
The local New Testament church is the instrument by which God is fulfilling his mission in the world today. It is a place of teaching, training, fellowship, and spiritual deployment. God has used the church for 2,000 years – in times of victory and persecution, in harvest and famine, to be his gospel ambassadors in the world. Is it any wonder that the primary subject of Satan's disdain is the bride of Christ? As we look at the state of the church, we discover quickly that she has not fared well in light of the enemy's plot against her. For every two churches planted in the U.S., three churches close (Lifeway Research). Churches are dying but perhaps more concerning, they are dividing. They are dividing over culture and politics and over personal preferences. Today we have invited Pastor Troy Stogsdill, Pastor of First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia, OH to discuss how the church guards against disunity. Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

As devoted Christians, our core calling is to embody the role of peacemakers, actively cultivating harmony in relationships and advocating for reconciliation between individuals and with God. Today, Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar discuss life's inevitable challenges that attempt to disrupt our peace, but remind listeners it is within our connection with the Lord that we discover a lasting and transcendent peace. At the heart of a believer's faith lies the understanding that God rescued us not merely from external threats but from the righteous wrath of God. This salvation is a holistic restoration of wholeness and harmony between the Creator and His creation. In response, Christians are called to emulate the obedient spirit of Christ. By doing so, we engage in the ministry of reconciliation, becoming participants in God's ongoing project to bring shalom to a hurting world. Humility becomes a vital component in navigating our human interactions. Contrary to the cultural trends that celebrate divisiveness, the guys discuss how Scripture calls believers to resist conformity and actively pursue unity. Peacemaking is not a passive endeavor; it involves courageously confronting evil with the truth. Living peaceably does not mean the sacrifice of truth; rather, it prompts us to address conflicts with a love that seeks correction and reconciliation.Approaching conflicts in a biblically grounded manner entails seeking private resolutions rather than resorting to the public exposure prevalent on social media. Disunity undermines the credibility of the gospel and diminishes the impact of our collective witness to the world.Lack of peace within our lives should urge Christians towards self-reflection and spiritual examination. For those who claim to be born again, yet lack the peace only found in Christ, a thorough inventory of the heart and life is needed. The absence of peace for the wicked extends to the righteous who engage in wicked actions, signaling a return to the transformative presence of God is due.As believers, we are not merely recipients of peace but also agents tasked with promoting it. In moments of conflict, Christians are called to be mediators, actively working towards reconciliation and the restoration of shalom. God empowers us to walk in His peace and act as ambassadors of reconciliation, playing an integral role in the restoration of relationships and the establishment of shalom in our spheres of influence. Fulfilling this divine mandate, we become conduits through which God's peace flows into the world, actively participating in the establishment of shalom in our communities and beyond. Thanks for listening!
