LAKE LIFE WKND 029 about Love Letters a play by A.R. Gurney. Kellie Pifer and Lee Klocke will perform this 2 person play on stage at the Richwood Winery on July 25th starting at 7:30PM. When the Fargo-Moorhead theater at Island Park lost their building to a collapsed roof earlier this year, both actors decided to organize a fund raiser to help rebuild the structure. Now after the theater world was forced to shut down this spring at every other venue, Kellie and Lee were not sure how to do their fundraiser but soon came up with the idea to produce a play which could be performed in a social distance friendly format. They found a few venues which allowed to host their event outside with enough space for the audience to spread out. LAKE LIFE WKND 020 tune in to hear Beckie Mitchell speak about the collection of the Becker County Museum, the program, today's challenges to attract visitors, their updated concept and the future of a very impressive new museum to host contemporary science exhibits combined with showcasing local history. The new Museum will also have an event space, coffee shop, and much more to make it a lake life destination in Detroit Lakes. Listen to the full interview in our latest podcast recording and find more lake life stories on our daily updated website www.lakelifewknd.com #getoutandexplore #welovelakelife In 1882, the citizens of Becker County recognized the need to preserve the history of the community. The result was the Pioneer Settlers Union, a group comprised of many founding residents, who actively worked to preserve the history of their community as it was happening. In 1924, this organization was renamed the Becker County Historical Society. The Becker County Museum, founded in 1943, was initially housed in the basement of the Becker County Courthouse. Prior to that time, the "collection" was stored in a closet at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. The President of the Board of Trustees held the key! As the collection grew, there were plans to renovate the old Holmes School building as a museum. However, a fire in 1980 prevented that from happening. In 1989, the Becker County Historical Society purchased our current building from the Assemblies of God congregation and converted it to the present museum. Our current collection includes over 14,000 photographs and over 20,000 artifacts. We also have a research library open to the public during regular business hours, 10am until 4pm Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the Museum, including the research library, is $5 per day for adults. All kids and all Museum Members enjoy free admission.

They spend their time outside of the summer fishing season raising their four young daughters and spreading the love of wild salmon throughout Western MN and Eastern ND. Each summer they make the trek to Bristol Bay, Alaska to the town of Naknek. This is where they make fish camp every June-July for the annual sockeye salmon run. They are considered set netters, who target one of Alaska’s greatest gems- Kvichak River Reds. This is done with skiffs and a series of large nets and buoy systems on the edge of the bay. They feel extremely blessed to have been given this opportunity to live their summers marked by high & low tide, the barely setting sun and salt water on their faces. The 2019 season will be their twelfth season of fishing in Alaska.

LAKE LIFE WKND 011 Do you know our Oskar yet? You may have seen pictures of our dog on Insta. We spoke with Ryan Swanson from Detroit Lakes about the Small Munsterlander breed and learned what a fantastic hunting dog Oskar will be one day. Ryan is a Small Munsterlander breeder and member of the "KLEINER MÜNSTERLÄNDER" chapter of North America, which is actually a part of the German breeding association. Ryan is a knowledgeable advocate for these traditional hunting dogs which are not a new cross-breed but actually a pure-dog-breed with gens dating back to the 1800's. Hear the full story in our latest podcast and find more lake life on our daily updated website www.lakelifewknd.com #getoutandexplore #welovelakelife The development of the Small Munsterlander is hidden somewhere in the middle of the 19th century. After the change of the German hunting law, with the increasing number of hunters and hunting enthusiasts and the systematic cultivation of the game stock the breeding of new German Pointing Dogs began. There are reports saying that around 1870 longcoated “Wachtelhunds” (German Spaniels) were well known in the Munsterland region. These dogs were firm in pointing, they had enormous scenting abilities and were also able to retrieve. More details on the association website https://klm-gna.org/fci-breed-standard/
