In 2010, the Association for Information Systems formed a special interest group () to nurture an international community of academics that study the role of digital technologies in fostering environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development. Fifteen years later, we sit down with , the current SIGGreen president, to reflect on the progress we have made. What do we know about how digital technologies help greening our planet? What efforts in empirical, theoretical, and design work is still needed? Is our role to understand the role of digital technologies or do we need to push and enact change ourselves? Der auffälligste Unterschied zwischen den beiden war jedoch, dass die eine zu jeder Stunde optimistisch und zuversichtlich war, die andere stets pessimistisch und schlecht gelaunt.Kurz vor Weihnachten berieten sich die Eltern über die Geschenke. „Wäre es nicht schön, wenn jedes unserer Mädchen sein Leben einmal durch die Augen seiner Schwester sehen würde?“, fragte die Mutter. „Vielleicht schaffen wir das durch einen einfachen Trick.“ Und so bescherten sie am Heiligen Abend der Pessimistin die schönsten Geschenke: das neueste Smartphone, eine goldenen Ketter und ein modernes Fahrrad. Der Optimistin aber legten sie lediglich einen stinkenden Haufen Pferdeäpfel unter den Baum. Gespannt warteten die Eltern, wie ihre Töchter reagieren würden. A former prosecutor, Christian also served as an Assistant State's Attorney in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office Criminal Prosecution Bureau. He is a certified mediator and mediated in the Cook County Circuit Courts. He graduated cum laude from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 2018, as a Dean's Scholarship recipient, and received his undergraduate degree from DePaul University, graduating cum laude. He was the recipient of the DuPage County Bar Foundation's Judge William J. Bauer scholarship. While in law school, Christian served as President of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honors Society, received an award for the highest grade in Criminal Law, and was a national competitor in Moot Court—winning an award for best oralist in appellate advocacy. Overlooking the Blue Earth River, Woodland Hills Memorial Park Cemetery sits on a secluded hilltop with the city of Mankato spread below. It's a quiet green space, but one Minnesota State University, Mankato associate professor Jill Cooley says has a troubled history.“Racial discrimination doesn't make any logical sense in any case,” Cooley said. “But a cemetery makes less logical sense than anywhere else. Cooley and her students found Woodland Hills Memorial Park, formerly Grand View Memorial Park when founded in 1938, has a racial covenant prohibiting nonwhite people from being buried in specific plots within the cemetery. The covenant now has no legal standing following a 1948 U.S. Supreme Court ruling. This was a result of a four-year research project by MSU Mankato called “Mapping Mankato Project,” which was inspired by Mapping Prejudice in the Twin Cities.  It explored how segregation contributed to how Mankato's neighborhoods formed and how it impacted generational wealth for marginalized communities. Enlisting the help of Mankato East High School students, together they read and analyzed deeds, documented covenants and mapped the affected properties. There were covenants found on properties in seven neighborhoods around Mankato. Organizers hope to expand the research to surrounding communities such as North Mankato and St. Peter in Nicollet County in the future. ‘The system is rigged'As part of the race, ethnicity and civil rights class, Mankato East High School teacher Tim Meegan connected with the Mapping Mankato Project and got his students involved. Through the class, students worked directly with property deeds and helped with analyzing them for racial or restrictive covenants. Some were based on class, prohibiting apartments from being built in certain neighborhoods. Others targeted religious communities. It was a first-hand look at how prevalent housing discrimination was even in Mankato, leading to how some neighborhoods were formed. “The reason you see disparities is because of racism,” Meegan said. “Racism that goes back centuries, and is hard-baked into American society. The restrictive covenant is just one little piece that shows kids how the system is rigged, and has been rigged to benefit certain groups of people and to oppress other groups of people.”For Mankato East High School senior Grace Engen, the project hit close to home — literally. She learned her house off of Glenwood Avenue had a racial covenant.“And it was like, ‘This is real, and this is where I am right now. This is a part of my everyday life,'” Engen said. “You can kind of see it, actually. My whole street is all older white people who have owned these houses for a very long time and passed them down. Senior Brinley Ketter, who is Black, said it was surreal to physically see the covenants with racial slurs and discriminatory language that targeted different groups.“It was a way to shut down color in the community,” Ketter said. “A way of putting white power into the collective of the community, as a way of building their power instead of ours. And, that really just wasn't right to me.”Meegan believed it was important for stereotypes to be broken, and for his students to understand discrimination. He said housing is the number one way middle class families in the United States build wealth, and racism blocked many people of color for generations.  “I'm a third, fourth generation white American, and my parents were fortunate enough to be able to purchase a home, and my grandparents, and so that generational wealth. That's a significant source of privilege for me,” he said. “But, if other people were locked out of those same opportunities, that explains why you see such disparities.”‘We have to do the work'The Blue Earth County Recorder's Office houses the copies of real estate records, where researchers and students searched for racial covenants during the Mapping Mankato Project. Michael Stalberger, property and environmental resources director, said that the county does not have the right to pull off the clauses from property deeds, and only the property owner can pursue discharging them. “Even though for 70 years, the state of Minnesota said you cannot have these sorts of things on your property, the Supreme Court has said it for just as long, we still have to carry that forward because we don't have the authority to take [the covenant] off,” he added. The Mankato City Council voted unanimously on May 22 to condemn discriminatory covenants. Although symbolic, the city does plan to continue pursuing discharging covenants on municipal properties, educating the public about housing discrimination and helping property owners get connected to attorneys who are willing to assist with removing the clauses from their deeds. City Manager Susan Arntz said that history can't be changed, but the type of legacy future generations will inherit can.“My objective is to make sure our words and our actions match,” Arntz said. “If we really think we want to be leading the way as a vibrant, diverse regional community, we have to do the work.”

Porvoon Hunters pääsi tosi toimiin harjoituspeliensä jälkeen, kun se pelasi kauden ensimmäiset ottelunsa jääkiekon miesten Suomen Cupissa. Torstaina porvoolaiset kohtasivat Imatran Ketterän tämän kotijäällä. Ketterä oli tyly isäntä ja iski tauluun selvät 8–1 (2–0, 5–0, 1–1) voittolukemat. Perjantai-illalla Hunters toimi vuorostaan isäntänä, kun Jää-Ahmat tuli Hyvinkäältä Porvooseen vieraiksi. Tällä kertaa Hunters nappasi voiton 6–1 (2–0, 0–0, 4–1) lukemin. Huntersin miesten edustusjoukkueen päävalmentaja Pekka Siikala oli tyytyväinen joukkueensa peli-ilmeestä ensimmäisessä ja kolmannessa erässä. Toinen erä meni tosin hänen mielestään joukkueelta penkin alle, mutta kokonaisuuteen voi olla tyytyväinen, kun kaksi erää meni hyvin ja joukkueen peli-ilme alkaa pikkuhiljaa löytymään. – Nyt alamme menemään siihen suuntaan, mihin haluamme mennä, Siikala kommentoi ottelun jälkeen.

Panu Korhonen (Nordkapp / VR): Design-prosessi osana ketterää tuotekehitystä

Tapasin Nordean Open Banking tiimin Janne Uggeldahlin ja Ville Lauttamuksen lokakuun alussa. Tapaaminen sovittiin jo APItalous101 -kirjan julkistusjuhlissa ja päätettiin silloin tehdä jakso ”Opi tuntemaan API -asiakkaasi” podcast sarjaan. PSD2 oli käynnistävä momentti – mutta Nordea ei jää siihen Nordea lähti alkuun PSD2 tielle compliance näkökulmalla. Tarvitaan rajapintoja ja huomattu että tarvitaan platformi ylläpitämiseen. Looginen hyppy oli laajentaa katsantoa P2D2:sta pidemmälle. Pankit on perinteisesti pitänyt ovet kiinni, meidän data ja sovellukset (appsit) – käyttäkää niitä. Jatkossa tilanne on toinen – aito asiakaskokemus voittaa. Jatkossa kuluttaja voi valita haluamansa appsin. APIt, ketterät menetelmät ja kumppanit APIt tuo ketteryyttä - väitetään. Pelkästään APIt ei riitä vaan tuotantoprosessit pitää myös ketteröittää. Ketterien menetelmien käyttö organisaation laajuisesti on tarpeellista mutta isommissa organisaatioissa on kymmeniä ellei satoja projekteja menossa ja niiden synkroinointi on ratkottava. Nordealla katsantokanta on ettei tarvitse olla parhaita kaikessa, kunhan me ollaan ykköspartneri. Meidän ei ole pakko keksiä killeri sovelluksia, kunhan ollaan mukana. Näiden yhdistelmänä – APIt, ketterät menetelmät ja kumppanit- syntyy kyvykkyyttä reagoida PSD2 aiheuttamaan liikkuvaan maaliin. Eikä ketteryyden hyödyntäminen rajoitu vain PSD2 vaatimusten täyttämiseen vaan palvelee Nordeaa myös laajemmin. Kehittäjäkokemus avaintekijä – nopeasti ulos Kehittäjäkokemus (DX) oli alun alkaenkin tärkeää Nordea Open Banking tiimille. Toisin sanoen asiakas on myös sovelluskehittäjä eikä vain se perinteinen loppukuluttaja. Kummatkin luonnollisesti ovat tärkeitä ja loppukuluttajien hyvä kokemus on tärkeä. Kehittäjiä hellimällä ja kuuntelemalla saadaan parempia lopputuloksia loppukuluttajille ja nopeammalla aikataululla. Tärkeää oli päästä ulos mahdollisimman nopeasti ja ilmaista Fintech yrityksille että Nordea on halukas tekemään yhteistyötä ja partneroitua. Ensimmäinen askel kehittäjäportaalissa oli kerätä sähköpostiosoitteita ja sitten kysellä että mitä te kehittäjät haluaisitte että siellä portaalissa olisi. Tämäkin oli uutta Nordealla. Ei ennen ole menty julkiseksi millään keskeneräisellä. Tässä tapauksessa ei ollut kyse edes keskeneräisestä vaan paljon pienemmästä. Kokemus oli silti positiibinen. Osa palautteesta vahvisti Nordean tekemiä olettamuksia ja nousi uusia asioita mitä ei oltu osattu ottaa huomioon. Sovelluskehittäjät kuulivat Nordean viestin ja siitä todisteena on sadat ilmoittautumiset ensimmäisten päivien aikana. Tiimiä tämä rynnistys auttoi edistämään API asiaa oman talon sisällä. Sisäinen evankelisointi APIen kehittäminen on monesti IT -lähtöistä, mutta Nordealla oli alusta lähtien business ja IT samassa tilassa – saman pöydän ympärillä. PSD2 on vielä hyvin liikkuva maali, ei tiedetä mihin se päätyy. Busineksella API -tietämys oli vähäistä, IT porukka tiesi ja koulutti. Terminologia on ongelmallinen ja monesti synnyttää seinän. Kun puhutaan APIsta, sanaan liittyy monta merkitystä ja monesti sanassa on latausta. Liiketoiminnan mukaan ottaminen johti hyvään tulokseen ja nopeaan etenemiseen. Onnistumiset ruokkivat nälkää ja lisäävät vauhtia. Sisäisesti nousi tarve tehdä sisäistä API evankelismia ja viedä sanomaa. Isoissa organisaatioissa muutos on hidasta ja vie aikaa, joten evankelismia pitää jaksaa tehdä.
