Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Our shout-out today goes to Brad Guck from Perham, MN. Thanks for your partnership in Project23. We cannot do this without donors like you. Our text today is 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. — 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Are you being puffed up—or are you building others up? That is Paul's question. Previously in this letter, he repeatedly used the word physioō (φυσιόω)—"to puff up," to inflate with pride (1 Corinthians 4:6, 4:18–19, 5:2, 8:1). Knowledge puffs up, he said, but love builds up. Now, in chapter 13, he shows us what that looks like. If you want to know whether your motivation is right, don't look at your puffed-up gifts. Look at whether they are building others up. Paul defines the loving use of our gifts—but not the way we expect. He does not start with emotion in this text He starts with restraint. Love is patient. Love is kind. And then he turns negative. Love does not envy. Love does not boast. It is not arrogant. It is not rude. It does not insist on its own way. It is not irritable. It keeps no record of wrongs. The word "arrogant" in this text carries the same idea Paul has been correcting all along—puffed up. Inflated. Swollen with self-importance. This chapter is a direct confrontation with the puffed-up pride behind their spiritual gifts within the church. Corinth envied the visible gifts. They boasted about their spirituality. They divided over leaders. They insisted on their rights. They flaunted freedom. They ranked one another. They were puffed up. And Paul says that none of that builds up. Notice how many of these traits target the ego. Envy compares. Boasting advertises. Arrogance inflates. Rudeness disregards. Insisting on your own way centers your will. Irritability reveals entitlement. Resentment stores ammunition. Love dismantles every one of those. Love does not puff up because it is not focused on self. Love builds up because it is focused on others. Here is the point: you can operate in powerful gifts and still be deeply inflated. But if others are not strengthened, encouraged, and built up through you, it is not love. And without love, nothing else matters. DO THIS: Identify one area where you've been easily irritated or defensive. Instead of protecting your ego, intentionally build someone else up this week—with encouragement, patience, or quiet service. ASK THIS: Am I using my knowledge or gifting in a way that puffs me up—or builds others up? Where is pride disguising itself as conviction? Would those closest to me say I strengthen them—or strain them? PRAY THIS: Lord, expose pride that inflates my ego. Guard me from being puffed up by knowledge, success, or gifting. Make me an instrument of love that builds others up for the glory of Christ. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Humble and Kind"

Prayer of the Day Almighty God, your Son came into the world to free us all from sin and death. Having always wanted to be a mother, she responded by trying several holistic healing approaches to heal her heavy, painful periods, eventually committing to a two-year Yoga teacher training which supported the regulation of her hormones, and also included teachings about menstrual cycle awareness. Wonderfully, a year after she started tracking her menstrual cycle she had pain-free bleeds and six months later she was pregnant with her son. This led to her joining Red School's Menstruality Leadership Programme, and since then, she has been applying the healing power of cycle awareness in a new way, using it to craft what she calls a rest-centred life, and guide others to do the same. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Ted Tulibaski from Perham, MN. Ted, your partnership with us through Project23 is helping open ears and loosen tongues with the truth of the gospel. This one's for you. Our text today is Mark 7:24-30: And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs.” And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.— Mark 7:24-30 Jesus enters Gentile territory—Tyre and Sidon—away from the Jewish crowds. He tries to lay low. But one woman finds him. A woman with no status in Jewish society. She was a Gentile. A Syrophoenician. An outsider by birth. According to every religious and social system—she didn't belong. She had no reason to approach a Jewish rabbi. No social footing. No spiritual leverage. But she had a desperate need—and a bold faith. And Jesus seems to test that faith with a hard statement: “It's not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs (Gentiles).” But instead of recoiling, she leans in. “Yes, Lord. But even the dogs (Gentiles) eat the crumbs under the table.” It's not a demand. It's a confession. She knows she doesn't deserve anything—but she still believes Jesus has more than enough to meet her needs. And that humility moves Jesus. Her faith—not her status—is what leads to healing. This is a challenge for all of us—especially in a culture obsessed with status, labels, platforms, and recognition. Jesus isn't impressed by credentials. He's not persuaded by accomplishments. He doesn't bend to social influence. He's moved by our faith—humble, honest, surrendered faith. So don't let your status—high or low—define your approach to God. Come like this woman. Come as you are. Come boldly, and believe that even the crumbs from Jesus are enough to change everything. #FaithOverStatus, #JesusRespondsToFaith, #SurrenderedFaith ASK THIS: Do I rely on status more than faith when approaching God? Where do I feel like an outsider spiritually or socially? How does this story challenge my pride? What “crumb” from Jesus am I afraid to ask for today? DO THIS: Come to Jesus today without pretense. Drop your credentials, your insecurities, and your excuses. Just come in faith. PRAY THIS: Jesus, I lay aside everything I think makes me worthy.
