Meetings are one of the biggest drains on time, energy, and morale at work, yet most managers are never actually taught how to run them well. Paul English, cofounder of Kayak, argues that organizations underestimate just how costly bad meetings can be. He says meeting culture is one of the most overlooked drivers of productivity, morale, and organizational effectiveness. Drawing on lessons from companies like Amazon, LinkedIn, Airbnb, and Shopify, as well as his own experience building high-performing teams, he explains how leaders can run meetings that create clarity, energy, and better decisions instead of frustration and fatigue. English is the author of the book The Meeting Book: How the Best Companies Meet Better.

Europa bindet uns. Aber vielleicht ist das kein Nachteil.

Follow travel author Oscar Scafidi on his world-record paddle down the Kwanza River inAngola. Stretching 600-miles from its source in the Angolan Highlands, in the center of thecountry, to the Atlantic Ocean on the country's west coast, Oscar and his partner AlfieWeston kayaked the entire length and hiked an additional two hundred miles to circumventrapids, waterfalls and dams. The going was tough and they were unprepared for the dangers and hardships ahead. In this week's Northwest Florida Fishing Report, host Joe Baya is joined by Butch Thierry and Angelo DePaola for a wide-ranging Gulf Coast report covering a massive 790-pound bluefin tuna, improving swordfish and dolphin action offshore, heavy sargassum in the blue water, kayak-accessible inshore trout and redfish patterns, nearshore reef opportunities, and the kickoff of Gulf billfish tournament season. This episode features Capt. Adam Peeples with One Shot Charters, Brandon Barton with Emerald Waters Kayak Charters, and Jim Cox with the Orange Beach Billfish Classic. Capt. Adam Peeples gives the offshore report after landing a 113-inch, 790-pound bluefin tuna while live baiting with blackfin tuna on Penn 70s, 150-pound hollow core braid, 130-pound mono, 200-pound fluorocarbon leader, and a 12/0 Mustad Perfect Circle hook. He also reports strong dolphin action, an improving swordfish bite, 78-degree blue water, and scattered sargassum that is making trolling difficult. Adam explains how anglers can adjust by avoiding grass-catching plugs and divers, using single-hook rigs, fishing live baits differently, and staying disciplined about keeping lines clean. Brandon Barton gives the kayak fishing report from the Pensacola area, where trout and redfish are active on open grass flats, sand potholes, and shallow-to-mid-depth areas in the sound. He breaks down topwater, wake bait, jerk bait, weedless shrimp, and paddle tail tactics for trout and redfish, along with how he uses kayak mobility and electric propulsion to reach less-pressured water. Brandon also talks nearshore reefs, where amberjack, snapper, grouper, king mackerel, and even mahi are becoming realistic kayak targets as summer patterns build. Jim Cox recaps the Orange Beach Billfish Classic, the first leg of the Gulf Coast Triple Crown, with a record 62 boats and a $1.6 million tournament purse. He covers the long runs teams made in search of current, the strong blue marlin catch-and-release results, giant tuna weighed during the event, and how Gulf Coast tournament fishing continues to become more technical with sonar fishing, live baiting, fuel range, and advanced boat technology shaping the modern game. In the State of Colorado, the couple hundred rivers and several thousand streams are extremely popular for fishing, boating, swimming, all the river things. And while people typically have access to these waterways, the laws on access in the state are not clear and could potentially lock up access when rivers run next to and through private property. Currently two groups are working to secure access for river users and a film, "Common Waters," explores a recent interaction between a landowner and a fisherman that is leveraging a push for legal clarity around this access. Two guests join us to talk through the topic: Hattie Johnson from American Whitewater, and Cody Perry from Rig to Flip. Host Michael Bray takes this special episode straight from Blast Off to the Winners Circle following the BAM Kayak Series stop at Lake Don Pedro. This one breaks down exactly how the top anglers separated themselves on a fishery that can be as rewarding as it is challenging. Joining the show are event Champion Isiah West and runner-up Shane Jones, who finished just 0.50 inches apart in a tight race that came down to execution, decision-making, and staying locked in mentally. Both anglers walk through their approach to the event, how they adjusted throughout the day, and what it took to put together big limits on Don Pedro. This episode is a practical look at how high-level kayak anglers break down water, manage pressure, and capitalize on key bites when it matters most. If you're fishing springtime reservoirs or looking to improve your tournament mindset, there's a lot to take from this one. Am I too old to get out of a kayak? This was the question I asked when getting out of a kayak suddenly became difficult; it sparked an unexpected realization about aging, mindset, and decision-making. Ask yourself, what happens for you when something you always loved suddenly gets harder? Do you give it up or do you typically get curious about how to make it work? After an awkward (and hilarious) kayaking moment, I share how noticing your thoughts and getting curious can help you avoid quietly giving up parts of your life you still want. You'll also learn how small challenges can quietly shrink your life and how to use "life leadership" to adjust instead of give things up. This is how you regret-proof your life! On this action-packed episode of Fishing the DMV, we break down the 2026 NVKBA Trail Stop II – “Battle of Five Lakes I”, where anglers spread out across five of Northern Virginia's top fisheries: the Occoquan Reservoir, Lake Frederick, Sleeter Lake, Germantown Lake, and Burke Lake.Fishing conditions were a little slower than expected, but steady enough for anglers to grind it out and put together solid limits across all five lakes. When it was all said and done, it was Jonathon Mehus, the 2022 Angler of the Year, who separated himself from the field with an impressive 88.00 inches to take home the win.The key decision? Jonathon committed to the 2,100-acre Occoquan Reservoir, a highly technical fishery known for its standing timber, dock lines, creek channel swings, and bluff walls—and it paid off in a big way.In this episode, Jonathon gives a full, in-depth Occoquan Reservoir fishing report, breaking down:How he located and patterned bass in tough conditions Key areas that produced (including timber and bluff wall structure) Lure selection, adjustments, and decision-making throughout the day Why Occoquan stood out compared to the other four lakes in the tournament Tournament strategy tips that helped him close out the win If you're looking to unlock the secrets of one of Northern Virginia's most consistent bass fisheries, this is a must-listen breakdown packed with real tournament-winning insight.Whether you're a kayak angler, tournament fisherman, or just love learning new water, this episode delivers the exact strategy and mindset needed to compete at a high level. Please support Fishing the DMV on Patreon: https://patreon.com/FishingtheDMVPodcast If you are interested in being on the show or a sponsorship opportunity, please reach out to me at fishingtheDMV@gmail.comNVKBA on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nvkba Jake's bait & Tackle Website: http://www.jakesbaitandtackle.com/ Link to Tactical Fishing Company: https://tacticalfishingco.com/ Fishing Pro Tech: https://www.facebook.com/FishingProTech Phone Number: (757) 566-1278Email: lin@fishingprotech.usFishing Pro Tech Address: 7812-A Richmond Road, Toano, VA, United States, 23168 Click the link below to get free shipping off any Super Blue Stuff roll-ons when you use the code FISHING! His long standing partnership with Joel Cutler (which I didn't know they met when they were seven years old) and the details on their entrepreneurial initiatives in the travel industry including building the largest tour & cruise business in the U.S. The story of how a donation to Children's Hospital led him to compete in the Ironman triathlon with just 90 days to train. How General Catalyst got started during the 2001 VC winter after dot-com bubble burst. The firm's myopic focus on founders and their approach to building a firm with long term, intergenerational value. On this exciting episode of Fishing the DMV, we're joined by Taylor from Always Bent Fishing to break down kayak fishing in Ocean City Maryland, Eastern Shore fishing opportunities, and the hidden potential of Maryland's legendary blackwater fisheries. The Eastern Shore of Maryland is the stretch of land east of the Chesapeake Bay, known for its vast network of tidal rivers, coastal bays, marshes, and backwater systems. It's one of the most unique fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic, offering a mix of freshwater, brackish, and saltwater environments all within a short drive. This region is famous for its diverse species, consistent fishing opportunities, and less pressured waters compared to the western side of the bay. From shallow grass flats to open ocean access, the Eastern Shore truly gives anglers the ability to fish everything from kayak backwaters to offshore tuna grounds. We dive deep into inshore kayak fishing techniques, back bay fishing Ocean City MD, and how to consistently find fish in the coastal bays, tidal creeks, and marsh systems that make this region one of the most diverse fisheries on the East Coast. If you're into saltwater kayak fishing, inshore fishing Maryland, or targeting species like striped bass, red drum, flounder, and speckled trout, this episode is loaded with actionable insight. We also explore the highly talked-about blackwater fishing in Maryland, including tannin-stained rivers and low-visibility systems across the Eastern Shore. Learn why these dark water fisheries hold big fish, how to adjust your bass fishing techniques, and what lures and presentations excel in stained water and low-visibility conditions.
