The group leaves the mountains and traverses the fields that lead to Vallaki. The paladin discovers something terrible about the land, the fighter has another brush with death, the bard learns more about the disturbing culture of Barovia and the cleric’s concerns for Ireena grow.
Tulani finishes the rites for Ireena's father despite the cries of a young man. The escort leaves Barovia for Vallaki. On the road, strange sights await the travelers. In the night, music and smoke.
Too late, the group discovers they have entered a realm they should have kept out of. A letter reveals part of the curse of this strange land. Although they cannot see the bars, they are now well and truly trapped.
