A warm Barovian welcome to you! The setting of Curse of Strahd is a nod to Bram Stoker's Dracula, and we have been waiting to pull it out to play for a very long time. While it's a published adventure, none of the players know what to expect. So pull up your socks, prepare your garlic wreaths, and sharpen your stakes, cause there's a vampire to be hunted!-----I'm Kenneth, your humble Dungeon Master (DM), and this is Curse of Strahd, a published 5th Edition Adventure. My friends and I love Dungeons & Dragons, so I came up with the silly idea of recording our sessions for posterity. No one's a professional, so audio will be choppy, accents will change, and rules WILL be made up. Sound effects are just a bonus. It's the heart of every D&D story: The player characters did something crazy and their whacky adventures in getting themselves out. That's what tabletop RPGs are all about, no video game will ever let players embrace free will and agency like a pen-and-paper role-playing game, and we'd never want it any other way. But it's also where playing by the book stops and the real art of being a dungeon master (or any game master) begins. Can you think on your feet to keep the game running as the players carry out their crazy plans? Or will you panic and squash the fun? In this episode, Thorin, Tony and Dave talk about 19 of the craziest stunts players have pulled in their games and how they bent the systems to make it happen — or sometimes didn't. Players know speed kills, but DMs know lack of pace can wipe out whole games. How many encounters should you get through in a session? How long should combat take? What do you do when the players are board? How can you adjust pace if things are going to fast or too slow? Happy holidays! Have an early episode, on us! Today you can experience a new episode just like a Patreon subscriber: flippin' early. Like, Friday instead of Monday early. As an audience, you've been incredible and it's just a little something from us to you to say thanks. Hopefully this can get you through some solid commute time to wherever you may be headed. And if you're not headed anywhere, listen to it anyways? Or if you're around family, grab your closest boombox (boombox? Yes, boombox) and blast that s&%#. Last episode, our party of classy individuals found themselves at a wizard's tower, thanks to Rictavio's direction, but they seem to be in a predicament. Ferguson is being testy with Rictavio, Kent seems to be hurt when he approaches the tower, and Ven can't [enter dance move here because I'm not savvy enough these days to come up with an appropriate reference, you kids and your sweet moves...]. The party made it to the gates of Vallaki, hoping to get Ireena to safety, but what awaits them inside? Is Ireena truly safe anywhere she goes? And what is going on with the Cleansing Hand?
