When Tony, Larry, Henry, and Dr. Flownder show up for their regular weekly meetup, they expect tea and literature. Instead, they find their beloved host dead under bizarre, impossible circumstances. Trapped in a web of eerie phantom phone calls and a highly suspicious police interrogation, these ordinary locals are forced to defy the law to find the truth. Can this mismatched crew survive what's bubbling beneath the surface, or will the madness claim them first? Content Warnings: Adult language, adult humour, fantasy, Horror & violence. Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it here last where we talk about news, you've already heard.https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06spb8wSeveral years ago, I stumbled across one of the greatest podcasts I have ever listened to. It was called the Lovecraft Investigations and it started with the Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I'm a huge fan of Call of Cthulhu and I've pretty much read all of Lovecraft over the years. Some good, some bad, but all of it steeped in the myth and mythos. Lovecraft was very good at atmosphere. This podcast was perfect. It felt like a real investigative podcast and with BBC 4 backing it the production quality was incredible. Over the next several years the Lovecraft Investigation podcast continued to slowly put out some fantastic episodes that really felt like you were in a Call of Cthulhu game. Then in 2023 it just stopped. Not a big surprise because podcasts stop all the time. But I was generally bummed. But good news does come to those that wait.https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/julian-simpson/lovecraft-investigations-the-call-of-cthulhu?ref=bk-ads-ga-p-20&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23860975866&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz9_QBhD_ARIsADnSCfDc7zHCkZjWINm47NNyZOau7v-un5Z63IHEX0AHXiH66Pn_noXAb-AaAokFEALw_wcBLovecraft Investigations is coming out with Season 5. The Call of Cthulhu. This time they are going through Backerkit and all the original audio cast is joining the new season. They are offering digital downloads of the entire audio play as well as physical copies and extra books and items to make the entire thing special. If you haven't listened to the original BBC4 podcast do yourself a favor and do it, right now, then come back to the episode. But even if you don't want to go back and dive in you don't have to because the new Season 5 is designed for people who haven't heard any of the old episodes. I am stoked and yes I've already pledged.Christina, what do you think of audio plays like this? Is there a place for them in today's CGI world?[Kick to Christina]What about you Mike, did you ever listen to the original Lovecraft Investigations?[Kick to Mike]Up next, we have more Conan!https://ttrpgfans.com/new-conan-the-barbarian-rpg-books/That's right, our favorite…at least for now…roleplaying game Conan the Hyborian age has new sourcebooks coming to Kickstarter. The campaign hasn't launched yet, but it looks like we will get source books for Tortage which is a haven for pirates, thieves and smugglers in the Baracha Isles and Zamora the ancient land of dark sorcery and the home to the City of Thieves. Both of these settings I managed to avoid in our first campaign of Conan so as soon as I get my hands on these source books, we will visit Heliope, Drebu and the rest of our Hyborian friends again.Christina, what do you think about Monolith putting out sourcebooks for Conan?[Kick to Christina]Mike, this has always been your issue with new games, not enough lore. Does this new sourcebook get you pumped for more Conan?[Kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

…‘and a Wet and Gribbly Bibbling Was a'Babbling.' In which our intrepid heroes go shopping (and genuinely pay money for old rope), brave the horrors of the vicarage, and try to remain stoic in the face of the most frightful of horrors: a housekeeper, an outhouse, a breeze, and soft furnishings. The Company of the Light uses the Vaesen roleplaying system, by Free League Publishing and based an original concept by Johan Egerkrans. The mystery at the heart of the scenario is taken from Mythic Britain and Ireland by Graeme Davis. The name of that scenario (which may contain a mild spoiler) can be found below the music section of these notes. You can hear a short prologue to The Company of the Light on our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/blomqvist-01-ho-153999494 Cast: Lieutenant William Fellwood — Joseph Chance Bab Chase — Dominic Allen Siobhan Strong — Danann McAleer Bridge Ebden — Lucy Farrett Narrator — Dan Wheeler CW: This podcast contains mature themes, strong language and cosmic horror. (MILD SPOILERS FOLLOW): The mystery at the heart of this story is premised upon the disappearance and death of a young woman. However, with the exception of one moment (which I will flag when it arrives), this is not dwelt on in any great detail, and please note for avoidance of doubt this is NOT sexual violence or self-harm. Human discretion is advised. The Apocalypse Players is an actual play (or live play) TTRPG podcast focused on horror tabletop roleplaying games. Magnus Seter is an award-winning educational writer and game designer and a founder of The Yellow Hand creative collective. He is a well known figure in the Swedish RPG industry, both as an avid gamer and as an accomplished creator. Magnus started playing roleplaying games in 1982 with the very first version of  Drakar och Demoner. Because of this, he began tapping away at the family typewriter, writing extra rules and adventures for his own gaming group and shamelessly copying the style of the trailblazers of the day. Immersing himself in the hobby, Magnus soon discovered other RPGs, such as Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and Cyberpunk. With special thanks to Joseph Chance for his role in creating the world of Heartsholm. The Heartsholm Light itself is inspired by Hanstholm Lighthouse — An Alternative Headquarters, by Morten Greis. You can hear a short prologue to The Company of the Light on our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/blomqvist-01-ho-153999494 Cast: Lieutenant William Fellwood — Joseph Chance Bab Chase — Dominic Allen Siobhan Strong — Danann McAleer Bridge Ebden — Lucy Farrett Narrator — Dan Wheeler (For Bab Chase family lore, listen to Allhallowstide: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/the-apocalypse-players-2058667/episodes/allhallowstide-01-marked-by-de-103013020) (For Siobhan Strong family lore, listen to Night of the Hogmen: https://www.patreon.com/posts/73994862) CW: This podcast contains mature themes, strong language and cosmic horror. Think Dimension 20 or Critical Role, but fewer dragons, more eldritch horrors, and more British actors taking their roleplaying very seriously (most of the time). We primarily play the Chaosium RPG Call of Cthulhu, but have also been known to dabble with other systems, most of which can be found on our Patreon: www.patreon.com/apocalypseplayers We now have a free Discord server where you can come and worship at the altar of the Apocalypse, play Call of Cthulhu online, and meet like-minded cultists who will be only too eager to welcome you into the fold. The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast - Vintage Sci-Fi Short Stories

On the last surviving star, a civilization that has mastered time, matter, and life itself faces a slow extinction they cannot stop. When a newly created mind claims victory over the unstoppable force consuming the universe, one decision will determine whether anything at all remains. The Red Brain by Donald Wandrei. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Author Donald Wandrei makes his debut on the podcast today. Born in 1908 in St. Paul, Minnesota, he built a reputation as a science fiction writer, poet, and editor—and, like many writers of his era, he shared a strong connection with H. P. Lovecraft. As a teenager, Wandrei hitchhiked from Minnesota to Rhode Island to meet Lovecraft in person. That journey led to his involvement in the Lovecraft Circle, alongside writers such as Frank Belknap Long and Clark Ashton Smith.Wandrei also played a crucial role behind the scenes. Without his intervention, The Call of Cthulhu might never have appeared in Weird Tales. He wrote directly to the magazine's publisher, making it clear that if Lovecraft's work wasn't accepted, the author would take his stories elsewhere. In late 1937, after H. P. Lovecraft's death, Donald Wandrei and August Derleth tried to publish a memorial collection of his best weird fiction. When major publishers passed, they created their own company—Arkham House—to release Lovecraft's work in hardcover. The name comes from Lovecraft's fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts.Donald Wandrei went on to write nearly 100 science fiction short stories, and he was just 16 when he wrote the one you're about to hear—his first to be published, in Weird Tales magazine in October 1927 on page 531, The Red Brain by Donald Wandrei…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Humanity finally reaches Mars expecting discovery, only to stumble into a revelation that quietly rewrites Earth's entire history. What begins as triumph turns into a cosmic joke with unsettling implications no one is prepared to accept. Mimsy's Joke by Millard Grimes.
