The day that Jesus died is called “good” or “holy” because of the significance of the resurrection that followed. An observance of Good Friday titled “At the Cross” is rooted in John 19:23-30
The word “maundy” comes from Latin roots and is related to our word for “commandment.” In our tradition, the night before Good Friday calls us to a remembrance of Jesus in the Upper Room with his friends, sharing a meal with them and washing their feet just before he was arrested. An observance of Maundy Thursday titled “At the Table” is rooted in Mark 14:1-9
