Send us Fan MailThis week on Teachers in Transition, Vanessa Jackson explores the exhaustion that comes from navigating modern educational systems — from locked doors and “performative safety” to Teacher Incentive Allotment frustrations, burnout, networking, and why so many teachers feel emotionally depleted by May.What begins as a bizarre experience trying to enter a secured school campus turns into a broader conversation about hypervigilance, bureaucratic friction, teacher burnout, career transition, and the hidden emotional cost of constant monitoring and compliance.Vanessa also discusses the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), the growing frustration surrounding how those funds are distributed, and why highly accomplished educators often underestimate the sophistication of their own transferable skills. And yes… this week's Teacher Hack is simple, rebellious, and probably necessary:Go take a nap.In This EpisodeLocked school doors and “performative safety”Why teachers are exhausted in MayHypervigilance and nervous system fatigue“Move forward, take fire”Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) frustrationsWhy teachers underestimate their professional valueNetworking as the “inside key” to career transitionWhy relationships matter more than online applications aloneRest as resistance to burnout Mentioned in This EpisodeA Night at the OperaThe Marx Brothers comedy routine referenced in the episode: “Two Hard-Boiled Eggs” scene from A Night at the Opera“Move Forward, Take Fire”Taken from the book Dear Madam President: An Open Letter to the Women Who Will Run the World by Jennifer PalmieriTeacher Incentive Allotment (Texas)Official Texas Education Agency information: Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) Information View the letter sent to a teacher about their TIA hereO*NET OnlineCareer research and transferable skills exploration: O*NET OnlineCareer Transition ReminderTeachers already possess highly transferable skills:communicationleadershipcrisis managementorganizationrelationship buildingproject coordinationtraining and developmentadaptabilitystrategic thinking Sometimes the problem isn't your ability.Sometimes the problem is simply that nobody has shown you where the side entrance is yet.Support the PodcastIf you enjoy this scrappy little indie podcast, please consider:sharing the episode with a teacher friendleaving a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotifysupporting the show financially starting at just $3/month Support Teachers in Transition Connect with Vanessa Jackson

Sermon for the Second Sunday of Easter Behind Locked Doors The Rev. Gwin Hanahan Download
[John 20:19] That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! "Peace be with you," he said.Fear locks _______________, but it doesn't lock out _______________.[John 20:24] One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came.Doubt often grows in ___________________.[John 20:25] They told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he replied, "I won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side."Thomas didn't want a _______________, he wanted a ____________________.[Hebrews 10:25] And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.Doubt grows _____________ when you're _____________.[John 20:26] Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. "Peace be with you," he said.Closed _______________ don't keep Jesus out.[John 20:27] Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!"The questions you whisper in _______________ are still _______________ by God.[John 20:28-29] "My Lord and my God!" Thomas exclaimed. [29] Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me."Your life doesn't need to be _______________ by doubt.[1 Corinthians 15:6] After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.

The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. John 20:19-20 Behind Locked Doors The doors were locked. The disciples were scared. The next knock on the door might be Roman soldiers sent by Jesus’ enemies to finish the job and make sure every last disciple of Jesus was silenced for good. But then—without knocking—Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace be with you.” This peace knows everything is the way it should be. Hiding behind locked doors was not going to manufacture calm and peace in the disciples. So, Jesus came to them. The living, breathing, crucified-and-risen Jesus stood in the middle of their anxiety and declared peace—everything is as it should be. I’m alive. You’re forgiven. Peace be with you. Not only did he declare peace to them, but he also gave them the proof they needed. He showed them his hands and side. The proof of his love remained visible. His wounds had not vanished. The proof of his presence was no longer in doubt. You may feel isolated in your doubts, guilt, or fear of the future. Yet the risen Jesus does not wait for you to manufacture peace on your own. Through his Word, he stands among his people today. And he still says, “Peace be with you.” When we are afraid, Jesus doesn’t say, “Calm yourselves.” He says, “Look at me. See the wounds that won your freedom.” The same body that hung on the cross now stands alive. The penalty of sin was paid. Death was undone. Peace with God has been won. The peace Jesus gives is not based on our feelings, but on Jesus’ promised presence, power, and love for us. Jesus proved his love for us when he died on the cross for us. He proved his power when he conquered death. Jesus lives, so our souls trust that Jesus makes everything the way it should be. “Peace be with you!” Prayer: Jesus, fix my eyes on your wounds, that I may have peace in the certainty of your victory. Even for ancient people, this week's story isn't anything they would've had a category for! Peter Walsh, Elizabeth Garnsey, and John Kennedy once again explore the story of "Doubting Thomas". How does this reading explain the slowness of understanding the resurrection in daily life, what are we to make of Jesus' body still showing his wounds, and what is the peace that Jesus promised?Questions for Further DiscussionThemes and ApplicationWhat does it mean that resurrection begins behind locked doors rather than out in the open? Why do you think John emphasizes belief over “faith” language? What kind of belief is being invited here? What does it look like to live as a “resurrection community” in a world described as addicted to violence or despair?Personal ReflectionDo you resonate more with Thomas' need to see and touch, or with those who came to believe without seeing? Why?What does it mean for you personally to “know something in your knower” rather than just intellectually understand it?How do you respond to the idea that Jesus returns still bearing wounds? What does that say to your own scars?Broader Spiritual Considerations What might it mean for the Church today to take seriously that “belief unfolds slowly” rather than instantly? In a culture drawn to spectacle and “signs,” how do we cultivate a faith that rests in relationship rather than proof? If Easter is not just celebration but activation, what would it look like for churches to emphasize “living resurrection” as much as proclaiming it?Learn more about St. Mark's at https://www.stmarksnewcanaan.org
The Duggar arrests have dominated headlines. The charges against Joseph. The charges against Kendra. The family's reported response. But almost no one is talking about the children at the center of all of it.Four children under the age of eight in Joseph and Kendra's home — both parents arrested, locks on the outside of their bedroom doors, their father transported to Florida on felony charges. Seven children being raised by Anna Duggar while Josh serves a federal prison sentence. And a documented family child-rearing practice — blanket training — that involves physically striking infants who try to crawl off a designated blanket in order to break their will.Hidden Killers host Tony Brueski sits down with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott for Part 2 of a three-part conversation examining what these children are actually living through. Scott brings thirty years of clinical expertise in trauma and child development, along with her own experience growing up inside a fundamentalist religious system. What does a child under eight actually process when their entire world collapses? What does blanket training do to a developing brain? And can children raised inside a system of total control grow into healthy adults? This is Part 2 of 3.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Pastor Brad Carter continues our Easter series, He Appeared, with a powerful message from John 20 called Locked Doors and Living Hope. The disciples were hiding behind locked doors, full of fear, confusion, and doubt, when Jesus suddenly appeared and spoke peace into the room. In this message, we see that Jesus still meets people right in the middle of fear, shame, and uncertainty. He does not wait for us to get everything together. He steps into our mess, shows us His scars, speaks peace, and reminds us that hope is alive. If you have ever felt stuck behind fear, regret, or doubt, this message is for you.Scripture: John 20:19-29In this message: • Jesus appears in the middle of fear • Jesus appears with scars, not shame • Jesus comes back for doubters • Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe

One of the best things you can do if you're getting married in today's time is get a pre-nup. If you're a guy, you probably like this idea. Ladies, probably not so much. At the end of the day, a pre-nup is a government instrument designed to keep everyone in the arrangement honest. But let's face it. People are going to cheat. Some will be greedy. Others will let themselves go and get fat. Or others will refuse to do the consistent work necessary to make a marriage last. It's just a fact. As of today, 56% of marriages end in divorce. This has created a title wave of grifters, cheats, liars, and lazy bastards that come out of the woodwork to feast on the resources of hard-working people. I have one with my wife, Amy. But instead of calling it a pre-nup, we call it a pre-marital agreement. Lean in, listen, and take some notes. This episode may help give you a healthy perspective on something once demonized by our society. In this episode of the Federal Help Center Podcast, Randie Ward pulls back the curtain on one of the most frustrating barriers in GovCon: finding the right person to talk to. From leveraging tools like ZoomInfo and federal data sources to dissecting agency budgets and understanding why program managers are intentionally harder to find, this episode shows how winning contractors turn research into access. Eric also explains why relationship-building isn't about one email or one call—it's about consistent, informed follow-ups that position you as prepared, professional, and serious long before an RFP is released. Breathe Pictures Photography Podcast: Documentaries and Interviews
Robert Gumpert joins me on the show from San Francisco, where he's spent decades photographing the parts of life most of us never see unless we work there, live there, or get pulled into the system. Hiring halls on the docks and the interview rooms inside the county jails have all been part of his working world. His long-running project Take a Picture / Tell a Story was the one that initially caught my attention: a portrait made after a recorded conversation with someone in custody, giving a literal voice to people awaiting trial. We also talk about his photographs of mariners heading out to sea, and his book Division Street, published by Dewi Lewis. That work looks at life under the flyovers and in the city's corners, where people without a home live just two blocks from some of the wealthiest startup companies on earth. Alongside my conversation with Robert, Gene Westburg is back from last week with a follow-up question about street v travel photography. Fred Ash also returns, and Michael Brennan has posted something that will, I'm sure, spark a few ideas for anyone thinking about bringing their work to life in print. There are some thoughts about THE ONE feature and an invite to come to Scotland in 2026. Links to all guests and features will be on the show page, my sincere thanks to our Extra Milers, without whom we wouldn't be walking each week and Arthelper.ai, giving photographers smart tools to plan, promote, and manage your creative projects more easily. Maddy Tyler preaches on the resurrection. In our days of grief and despair, when we've lost ourselves, Jesus meets us where we are. He meets us at the foot of our own burdens and grief. There isn't any barrier or locked door that keeps Christ away. When we lose faith in each other or in ourselves, Jesus will always cross through the barriers and meet us. Father Ryan Boetcher - April 27, 2025 (Second Sunday of Easter) Father Ryan's sermon explores different reactions to Jesus' resurrection as depicted in John 20 and Acts 5. He examine how the disciples initially hid behind locked doors in fear, Thomas's honest desire to see embodied proof, and the high priests' fearful suppression of the resurrection message. The sermon highlights Jesus' response of "Peace be with you" and his breathing the Holy Spirit onto the disciples, connecting this to creation in Genesis and new life in Ezekiel 37. He concludes by challenging listeners to consider what it means to live as those who believe "death does not finally exist" and how the resurrection should transform our daily lives beyond fear, power-seeking, and violence. It's Easter 2024. We are continuing in our series "Acts." Here in Acts 5, the connection to the Easter story is too good to miss. The apostles are in prison for preaching the resurrection. They've been publicly shamed by Jewish leaders. These apostles have every reason to be crippled by fear of the unknown. But they aren't afraid. It's as if they're expecting a heavenly being to pass through their locked doors and lead them into God's future hope. Why were they so secure, confident, and settled amidst their suffering? The reason goes back to a similar event they experienced on the first Easter morning.
