It's a blockbuster weekend of jumps racing across Ascot, Haydock, and Punchestown, and Emmet Kennedy is joined by Andy Newton, George Gorman, and Jamie Wrenn for a fast-paced, opinion-packed preview loaded with value bets, data-backed angles, and plenty of laughs. We kick off at Ascot with the 1965 Chase, where Il Est Français makes his British debut for Tom George. Can Pic D'Orhy land this race for the third year running? And how serious is the challenge from Arkle hero Jango Baie and the powerful Gidleigh Park? At Haydock, the Grade 1 Betfair Chase sparks a major split in the panel:Two are firmly against favourite Grey Dawning, while the other two are all-in on the Skelton star. Expect strong reasoning, sectional insights and a few angles you won't hear anywhere else. In the 1:15 Handicap Hurdle, the lads highlight 4/1, 5/1 and 11/2 players worth your attention, while in the 1:50 Graduation Chase, we debate whether The Jukebox Man is worth opposing on his comeback. Over at Punchestown, the Morgiana Hurdle brings Lossiemouth back to centre stage—does her appearance confirm a Champion Hurdle campaign? At Haydock's Stayers' Handicap Hurdle, the panel put forward 13/2, 11/1 and 22/1 selections, before returning to Ascot for the Ascot Hurdle, where Wodhooh is a warm favourite—good thing or trap? Then it's the big one: the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase, one of the deepest renewals in years.Fact To File, Fastorslow, Gaelic Warrior, Inothewayurthinkin, Heart Wood, Lecky Watson—stacked quality everywhere. And one of the team is strongly opposing the favourite with his best bet of the weekend. With bold opinions, measured analysis, longshot plays, and proper Festival-significance across three racecourses, this is the perfect setup for your weekend punting. As the harvest comes to a close, many farms are already negotiating their land rental agreements for 2026. Kelly Wilfert, UW-Extension Legal Specialist, says that getting things in writing is really critical. In speaking with Jill Welke, she says simple things like hunting rights during a lease should be written down. It protects not only the renter, but also the property owner. Warmer temperatures on the way, but don't get too comfortable. That's the advice of Stu Muck. Wisconsin will get back to feeling more "normal" temperatures at the beginning of next week. While the government is officially reopening, the workload that federal employees and agencies will have to overcome is large. Kiley Allan finds out about how the shutdown impacted growing season research with Dr. Shawn Conely, UW-Extension Soybean Specialist. Conley says a lot of the end-of-season harvest data was a "guess" without USDA's National Ag Statistical Service. What's more concerning to him is the delay in grant funding that's happened because of the shutdown. The talk/text line has been alive with activity from listeners sharing their Northern Light experiences. It's perfect timing since we're experiencing a solar maximum. What is it? Ben Jarboe finds out with Shawn Dahl, service coordinator with the Space Weather Prediction Center. If you've had issues this week with your phone, GPS, or yield monitor - this might explain it. Some USDA information trickled into the marketplace this week and it wasn't good news for dairy. Jenny Wackershauser, dairy analyst with EverAg in Platteville, joins Pam Jahnke to talk about the latest milk production numbers. While the market knew there would be growth, she says milk production went up over 4%. That was a surprise. Wackershauser goes on to note that there's still plant expansion happening in some regions, giving a "home" for that expanded milk. Internationally she says they're still hearing positive sales, but with the government reporting coming back online, that proof is yet to be shown.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#748 In this week's episode of Anxiety Slayer, we're talking about how we take care of ourselves when our minds start spinning stories about the worst that could happen.
Blame on Democrats: The term “Schumer Shutdown” is updated to “Schumer–Hakeem Jeffries Shutdown.” Jeffries is criticized for rejecting a one-year ACA subsidy extension that could have reopened the government. The commentary accuses Democrats of “orchestrating” the shutdown for political leverage. Defense of Republicans and Trump: Quotes from Donald Trump emphasize his claim of a “landslide victory” and frame the shutdown as a “kamikaze attack” by Democrats. The narrative presents Trump as calm and proactive despite the crisis, promising “good things are going to happen.” Impact on Ordinary Americans: Focuses on economic and emotional stress caused by the shutdown — e.g., furloughed federal workers and air traffic controllers missing paychecks. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is quoted describing strain on workers and air travel disruptions (notably in Burbank, CA). Criticism of ACA Costs: The Affordable Care Act is described as “never affordable,” with claims that premiums could increase by over $10,000 a month. Democrats are accused of demanding excessive funding to maintain ACA subsidies. Political Spin and Language: The rhetoric is strongly partisan, labeling Democrats as “radical,” “orchestrating pain,” and calling some “MAGA extremists.” The tone aligns with right-leaning political media, highlighting grievances against Democratic leaders while emphasizing Republican resolve.
