Nerd Podcast Radio was made by three friends that decided to sit down and talk about the thing that we love most, being nerds. We decided to record it, seeing how we all moved to different cities and didn't want to see our friendships fall to the wayside. In this podcast, we get together every other…
I thought I had a great idea to speculate on where Firefly would go if it wasn't cancelled. Erica did not like this idea. There was also beer involved. This was an interesting episode. Enjoy.
Our recurring guest host, "The Rusty Nail" joined us to chat about Robots. I am so impressed by Rusty's incites on this subject, it was a truly great re-look at this topic.
Bad days and burn out happen. Brian unexpectantly couldn't make it so David and Erica scrambled together quite a good episode. They even found a guest. Sir Nicholas, David, and Erica had a fantastic discussion about all sorts of things. Best episode ever! Sorry Brian.
We explored what AI could do for us to help us make an episode. We tried to create an example of a way to use AI for productivity rather than as a way to exploit.
Holly surprised David, Brian, and Erica by joining us to have a very strange conversation about what we would be in certain properties. This was an experimental format, let us know what you think.
David and Brian had a blast talking about well, those that beep and boop. Robots are cool. As usual for D & B episodes, lots of Star Wars. This was an improvised no outline episode so be prepared for chaos. Bleep Bloop.
Paulbo Baggins who previously joined us in some Minecraft episodes joined us for a look to the future. Since it's the new year lets talk about the future. What does a plan look like? Where do you see yourself? I found it most interesting to look at looks to the future from different generations. It was a fun chat
The Legion (Leigh) joined Super Vegan Brian to talk about the holidays followed by a tired David from a long drive from Vegas. It's a short one due to holiday activities but we had a fun chat hearing about O-Mega Mart and the Fallout Festival as well as other holiday stories.
Stolas and Grymm shared a mic for the episode we recorded on Friday the 13th. The topic was luck and of course this lead to arguments like this: Brian - Luck isn't real Erica - Brian's a **** idiot. Brian - Erica is Short.
Tis the season to be thankful....in the USA. So we talked about thankfulness
Brian was brilliant. He picked seasonal topics for the next lined up episodes not thinking that half of the hosts live in climates that have two seasons. The attempt was talking about winter activities and how to avoid being an indoor kid but the indoor kid in all of us flourished and we ended up talking about mostly indoor activities and some severe tangents. We could have talked about fear, why didn't we do that? So much for planning.
Holly, David, and Brian do their best to remember details about the Dresden Files novels as they anticipate the upcoming book.
Stolas, David, and Brian got spooky in today's episode talking about what creates a scary story. Campfire stories, writing, and especially running a spooky TTRPG. How do you create and sustain tension and get buy-in to the mood you are trying to set?
We had the privilege of having the co-authors of a soon to launch kickstart, Adventures of Teaching and Learning with TTRPGs. It was massive fun learning about how to use role playing games as a teaching and learning tool and puzzled out how this can not only help us to learn about there project but learn how to improve our own games. Note: this is the unedited episode for Patrons as usual. The public episode will be edited to be family friendly. Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grm/adventures-in-teaching-and-learning-with-ttrpgs
Erica, Brian and David Technically talked about Tech. There was also a discussion about Westerns but mostly tech... technically.
The Rusty Nail is back! Rusty joined us to talk about what we are watching and reading! With Rusty back, we were very excited. Expect a LOT of tangents in this one. Brian may also rant a couple of times.
Our new friend Koko joined us from all the way in Australia to chat Eldenring, Souls, and other hard video games. We also learned how old we all are for the first time.
We love TTRPGs, whether they be Pathfinder, D&D, Fatecore, etc We love running them and we love playing them but they are a lot of work whether it be reading the material or coming up with plot and encounters. We shared with each other our techniques for prep and some great experiences in the game. Edit: Sorry for the late post. Audacity upgraded and was causing crashing during editing.
A few episodes ago we had some guests from the CasualCraft server, the Minecraft server that Brian plays on. This led to members from opposite time zones to us wanting to be on. So we had Rophelle and Kokorodaki from Australia, and JumboSale, our server admin from Singapore on to join us in some more Minecraft discussions. Paulbo Baggins who joined us last time also popped on. So much fun!
A pre-episode chat made us quickly change our topic when the knowledge that some people don't have hobbies became known to us. Is that wrong? Is it weird? What do people do when they don't have stuff to do? Is it possible to be interested in nothing? We talk about it.
Summer is the time for Vacations and Brian just got back from one so we talked about that and what that means to us nerds.
We were joined by several members of the Minecraft SMP that Brian plays on and we all told stories about Minecraft and the SMP. A big thank you to Lola, Kija, and Paulbo for joining us.
Brian was interested in the hot ones challenge after seeing the Hermitcraft youtubers do it so he tried it while answering hot questions while eating hotter...chips.
An episode about Erica's opinions. This is a short description of the episode.
Yet another episode where Brian asks someone else to host. This is the kind of topic that happens when Erica is in control. We get paranormal stories and arguments over the existence of spirits. Perfect episode. Erica has a new job.
David and Brian found themselves as a duo for the first time in a long time and for the first time in a long time we dredged up an old topic and talked about hobbies. I think our opinions on hobbies has changed a lot as we've gotten older. It's like everything we do from the outside can be viewed as a hobby but we just don't feel that way.
Usually what we do is plan a topic or agree on a topic before an episode. Sometimes this doesn't happen and we either have to compromise or come up with something new. This is a time when a consensus could not be reached before recording time.
Fantasy Cartographer, Anna Meyer, joined us to discuss networking in nerd circles. How to make friends and connections whether it be in gaming, or other nerdy interests. This episode was inspired by how we all met and really made me think about all the different people I've met in my nerdy adventures. A big thank you for Anna joining us last minute on this one.
Super Vegan Brian here and I'm introducing this episode a little differently. I have to say this is one of my favorite episodes we have ever recorded. Funny enough, due to technical issues, this episode was almost lost but it was saved. I have to say, I had so much passion in my discussion of rules in games that I am overwhelmingly overjoyed that we were able to save this episode. We talked about rules. Rules in games whether they be board games or tabletop role playing games. I had tons of fun recording this and I am incredibly happy that I am able to share it with you.
Our very own patron and friend of the show Kija joined us to talk about fandoms and how we interact with. Brian also bullied David about Minecraft and we all learned a lot about Finland.
We're back for 2024! After having a nice holiday break, David and Brian returned to have a fantastic chat about holidays and holiday traditions.
David, Erica, Brian, and Holly got together to celebrate our 250th episode of Nerd Podcast Radio...but first, we played everyone's favorite game, What's Nerdy with You? for the entire episode. Also, we had a surprise Brent Bowser!
In this episode we talked a lot about creative burnout and real life interfering with creativity. It was a raw episode and required a lot of vulnerability and soul searching. It's a bit different than our normal content. I hope you enjoy, please give feedback.
Three podcast hosts stumble their way through a conversation that spans topics such as "Baldurs Gate 3" to the politics of the LGBTQ movement and why does Stolas get so many days celebrating them? It's not fair! Note - Brian was not present for these shenanigans.
Last time it was Silly or Serious. This time David and Brian play Love or HATE.
The original plan was to talk about tabletop roleplaying games but it quickly changed to all games, especially video. It was a fun time.
This was the opposite of the budgeting episode. Erica, David, and Brian discussed what we spend our money on when we don't have to. Apologies, there were some editing technical difficulties with this episode. Time travel may have been involved
Behold the joy of chaos! Listen to 3 punch drunk podcast hosts struggling to stay on topic. We were all pretty much exhausted but I think it created something quite good. The goal was to do an episode about cooking. I think we talked about that at least a little bit. Enjoy the chaos.
Brian, David, and Erica discuss what is the difference between horror movies and other movies. How do you make a good one? Is it the same as any story or movie? Lots of great discussion here. I hope you enjoy.
Some episodes have topics. This episode on the other hand has something very different. But first...
Erica, David, and Brian were having an amazing discussion about the effect of Pop Culture on society for good or bad when we were invaded by some amazing guests! What a good and chaotic time we had being podcasters.
Mental Health and Nerd Culture go hand and hand both for positive and negative. We discussed this with a special guest host, Indie comic writer, Corissa Grant joined us and we had a deep discussion about mental health and the positive and negative aspects of nerd culture. Part 3 of our informal 5 part nerd culture series. David and Brian are a duo in this week's episode where they discuss speculative science of science fiction, fantasy, games, and more.
We've been doing an informal 5 part series on nerd culture. This episode is part 2 where we discuss the future of nerd culture including trends and predictions. We discuss the effect of technology on nerd culture and the difference between the future of tech and trends. We also have some spirited arguments over Brian's perceived upbringing. Great times were had. :) Hosts: Brian, David, Erica
David and Brian try to dig deep into their brains and have a discussion about the history of nerd culture. This is part one in a series where we dig deep into our knowledge of nerd culture and have a fun discussion.
What the heck happened? Super Vegan Brian isn't here, didn't set a zoom call and he's not answering is phone. I guess we have to record without him. WTF are we talking about?
With David at Faire, Stolas and Brian did our first duo episode in a really long time. We decided to play Silly or Serious again but this time pertaining to Animation. Growing up with things like Disney afternoon and Sponge Bob leads to some great ideas for conversation both silly and serious. Production notes: Brian got solar panels which killed the power to his editing computer for several days. Sorry for the delay.
How do nerds afford to do nerdy things? How do you budget a convention? We bring on Jay, who teaches us fundamentals of all sorts of personal finance. We also talk about all the nerdy crap we've bought over the years.
Join Brian, Erica, and David for an episode filled with laughs and thought provoking discussions. In this episode the team plays a game of serious or silly, tackling a variety of topics that range from the absurd to the insightful. Tune in for a fun-filled episode that's sure to leave you thinking and smiling.
We are back after a bit of delay due to cold season. Is making friends hard? How do you make friends as an adult? How did you make the friends you have now? Why is it easy for kids? Erica, Brian, and David discuss this topic as well as the usual widget stuff. Note from the Widgets: "Our time will come."
This episode is an exploration of technology starring Brian, David, Stolas, and (drum roll) the Rusty Nail! No buckets in this episode, I think we covered that enough last time. Mushrooms were brought up in the context of technology though. There were some deep dives in this one and a surprise guest host. Oh yeah, we talked about technology sans buckets.
