Send a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last where we talk about news, you've already heard.I evidently missed this announcement in November of 2025, so when I got the email from Backerkit about an upcoming launch I might be interested in, I was surprised. Traveller 5e from Mongoose Publishing was coming to Backerkit in March of 2026. https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/4bb4fe4f-753f-484d-8133-870c7c591797/landing?ref=home-pageMy first thought was they were printing a new edition of Traveller, but then I remembered Marc Miller had produced Traveller 5th Edition in 2013. Of course, Mongoose has taken over publishing, but they are in the 2nd edition…then it hit me like a ton of bricks. It was Traveller for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.I'm sure if I tried real hard, I could come up with something more useless, but I gotta tell you, right now I'm out of ideas. What a complete waste.Traveller is an iconic roleplaying game with specific systems that work perfectly in that science fiction world it portrays. Rewriting the entire thing for D&D 5E … Stop it. Just Stop it. I know that 5E is the biggest selling game out there and I know this is just a money grab, but Damit people, open another roleplaying game book.I typically cheer for anything that brings more eyes to our hobby, but this isn't a rising tide, it's a tsunami destroying what's good about independent games and alternatives to D&D.I'm tapping out on this one.Christina, thoughts?[Kick to Christina]Mike[Kick to Mike]You might think after my lead in I would avoid all things Hasbro, but our next article from EN World is just too interesting to pass up. We've talked a lot about AI on our podcast and in Hasbro's latest earnings call Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks addressed the company's use of AI.https://www.enworld.org/threads/hasbro-ceo-says-ai-integration-has-been-a-clear-success.717852/“We're beyond experimentation. We're deploying AI across financial planning, forecasting, order management, supply chain operations, training and everyday productivity.” Cocks said. He also broke down how creatives use the tools.Mike, AI has recently become a huge part of your life and after diving into it and embracing it in the workforce you got promoted to COO. Briefly breakdown why AI is the future, whether we like it or not.[Kick to Mike]Christina hit us with the ethical issues[kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Send a textWelcome to you heard it here last, where we talk about news, you've already heard.First up we are looking at EN Worlds results from their fan vote Most Anticipated Games of 2026. Malcolm and I talked about our favorites a few weeks ago, but now we have the official results from EN World.https://www.enworld.org/threads/here-are-2026s-most-anticipated-ttrpgs-as-voted-by-you.717141/The top 10 fan voted games are interesting for a number or reasons. We have some new players to the game world, some old favorites getting a face lift and at least one that left me scratching my head. But let's get the Doctor's thought's first. Christina, what stood out to you on EN World's Top 10 List of Most Anticipated Games for 2026.[Kick to Christina]Mike, I know you have opinions, what did you pull from this?[Kick to Mike]In business news Drive Thru RPG announced an increase in it's print on demand prices.https://www.enworld.org/threads/drivethrurpg-print-on-demand-prices-increasing-again.717604/This comes on the heels of last March's almost 50% increase in printing costs. Drive Thru's announcement indicates that there will be a 3 – 5 percent increase in costs for their print on demand service. This increase went into effect on February 1st, 2026. The announcement places the reason for the increase squarely on the shoulders of rising costs of materials, from paper to ink to labor.Mike, I know the printing world is something you keep an eye on, so what observations do you have for the laymen out there wanting to get books printed?[Kick to Mike]Christina, is the future of TTRPG's digital and what does that ultimately mean for the hobby?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Send us a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last, where we talk about news, you've already heard. We start this week off with an article from EN World about Daggerheart and Darrington Press.https://www.enworld.org/threads/daggerheart-sold-out-in-two-weeks-has-three-year-plan-in-place.716975/The article reports that the first printing of Daggerheart was planned to last a year. Instead, it sold out in 2 weeks. But don't fear, the article goes on to say that Darrington Press has a 3-year plan in place for Daggerheart, Yipee! The article is based on another article by Business Insider that highlights Ed Lopez and Ben Van Der Fluit the COO and Senior Vice President of Business and Content Development respectively. Now I am an avowed capitalist, unlike my co-hosts, but even I get annoyed with the little games designed to separate a fool and his money. I mean you can't even read the original article at Business Insider unless you pay them money. If any of you are buying this crap, then shame on you. Darrington Press is simply a WOTC and Hasbro wannabe that are adapting the same bullshit that we have seen from those companies, I mean they even hired the people that come up with the bullshit to begin with. You mean to tell me that professionals in a business behind the most successful actual play show in the history of actual play shows screwed up their product ordering by 96%. I mean not even weathermen and the airlines are that bad. On top of it, if you tried to pick up the game at GenCon then you saw their business idea first hand. Small windows where the product was available everyday to create artificial scarcity and only provide the most expensive version of the game. I mean you couldn't even buy just the basic rulebook. You had to get the entire starter set, which was of course…more expensive. But anyway, that's my opinion. For our next bit of information, we are diving into a specific release.https://www.enworld.org/threads/rpg-print-news-%E2%80%93-traveller-d-d-mothership-and-more.717021/https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2148379689/Omendrome?awid=1086Omendrome by Alewood Games is a brand-new softcover adventure for Mothership using the ARKYVR supplement. Now I have heard a ton about Mothership, but I haven't read any of it. Lots of word of mouth and lots of love, but it just hasn't crossed my path and this is the first time I have heard anything about the ARKYVR supplement. Mothership is a Sci-Fi Horror Game that lets you play out all your Aliens and Space Hulk adventures. ARKYVR is a system that builds on that putting the characters behind the lens so to speak and letting them “Film” the action and choose the direction of the stories. All of that sounds amazing. The Omendrome adventure set puts the player character in the driver's seat of a pirate TV station that films and shows all of the horrors of space. Are those horrors real or just made up for the TV, well the players and characters get to decide that. I love the TV aspect of horror. My favorite Call of Cthulhu games are set in the modern era with the players taking on rolls of TV employees. And one of my favorite cult horror films is Videodrome which clearly Omendrome drew heavily from when they wrote the adventure. So Mothership, ARKYVR and Omendrome just hit my buy list for 2026.

Send us a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last where we talk about news, you've already heard. We have a little D&D announcement coming out of Wizards of the Coast that I'm actually kind of interested in.https://www.enworld.org/threads/wizards-of-the-coast-re-registers-dark-sun-with-uspto.716113/Wizards of the Coast recently filed an application to register Dark Sun in the US, a sign that D&D could be bringing back the campaign setting in the near future. That's the opening sentence to the article about the move on EN world. The article goes on to point out that the trademark on Dark Suns lapsed a year ago and that this might be basic paperwork, but I'm kinda holding out hope.Dark Sun was an original campaign world set on a post-apocalyptic desert planet and in my opinion the only interesting setting D&D has ever had. It was dark, gritty, and at the time of it's release in 1991 genre-bending. It was also a little controversial at the time and I think it would be even more so today. The setting had slavery, genocide, and leaned into racial themes such as the “muls” a half human half dwarf created for forced labor. I'm not sure those would fly today.Chirstina, this seems like a setting just dripping with ethical issues and your our ethical expert…thoughts?[Kick to Christina]Next on our list is a cultural mile marker. One of those things that can really tell you where you are at in the great timeline. If you doubted that roleplaying had become a common hobby then this is the final piece of information you have been waiting for to change your mind.https://www.enworld.org/threads/review-of-how-to-dungeon-master-parenting.716272/This new book, designed for expecting families breaks down parenting in a way that gamers will understand. Move over Dr. Spock, we have How to Dungeon Master Parenting. While I haven't read the book, the article on EN World is enough to sell me on it.Christina, from a cultural standpoint, how important is a book like this that mergers our favorite hobby with raising kids?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news that you've already heard.

Send us a textI swear they are listening to us?Who is “They”? You now, “Them”! On Season 3 Episode 16 of You Heard It Here Last, Christina and I talked about the fact that somebody at EN World really loved Deathstalker.I just found out that by the time you hear this episode Deathstalker will once again be in movie theaters. That's right they are remaking the campy Conan rip-off, and it looks like they are doing it the proper way…with another “B” Movie version. But that's not what this one is about. In our episode I said that if we were going to have a Roger Corman TTRPG it should have been Death Race 2000 and look what EN World did. They have written another 2 part piece about Death Race 2000 as a TTRPG. https://www.enworld.org/threads/where%E2%80%99s-the-death-race-2000-roleplaying-game-part-one.715287/Mike, I know you are not a big “B” Movie fan like Christina and I, but I can't help but feel like we are starting to see some throwback themes in roll playing to the 80's and even 70's. The 80's makes sense with Stranger Things, but what's your take on roleplaying games starting to mine our childhoods for inspiration?[Kick to Mike]Since I've got Mike here, we might as well dive into his favorite genre.Cyberpunk Legends: Into the Night is a solo or cooperative card game set in the world of R. Talsorian's Cyberpunk. It's an officially licensed game and just premiered on Kickstarter…and it blew past it's funding goal in 19 minutes.https://www.rascal.news/cyberpunk-legends-hacks-the-system-500k-raised-in-under-a-day/At the time of recording this it is at 3 quarters of a million dollars and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down much.Mike, why do you think Cyberpunk in general is so popular and is this just an example of a game riding the coattails of other games or is it something else?[Kick to Mike]And there you have it…all the news, you've already heard.

Send us a textWe have talked about AI a lot on this podcast and we plan on talking about it more. It's the future, whether you like it or not. Personally, I don't think the problem is going to be AI. I think the problem, as usual, is going to be people.https://youtu.be/86nhP8tvbLY?si=179uCtun2WcHLHNzI am a music fan and watch many of the big music theory channels on YouTube. Rhett Shull is a musician and YouTuber who has been around the platform for a very long time. In one of his most recent videos, he noticed that YouTube seems to be adding some type of AI filter to his videos and it's not just his videos. In this video he shows several examples and while it looks like YouTube might be using the AI filter to enhance video clarity the most interesting part about it is that he didn't approve it.That's right, it looks like YouTube is adding AI to people's video without their permission or notification. And that to me is the rub.Mike, you're our AI guru what do you make of this?[Kick to Mike]Christina, from an ethics standpoint, what are your thoughts?[kick to Christina]Next, we are back to the world of TTRPGs with a little fun article from EN World.https://www.enworld.org/threads/with-alien-earth-about-to-hit-our-screens-here-for-free-are-a5es-xenid-monster-stats.714828/In preparation for the new Alien series Alien Earth on Hulu, EN World shows some screen shots from the just kickstarted Voidrunners Codex. This new 5E supplement from EN Publishing, the same company that brings you EN World, is a Sci-Fi supplement for D&D Fifth Edition and in their upcoming release they have not one, not two, but 6 pages dedicated to our favorite space monster. Now I bring this up, because some of you might be interested in just such a supplement, and that's cool. But personally, I wanted an opportunity to yell at the Disney Corporation and 20th Century Fox for completely ruining what should have been one of the greatest film franchises in the history of film. I mean seriously, Alien is a masterclass of storytelling and Aliens flipped the script by turning horror into an action/thriller. Then the studio dropped the ball on what should have been a solid David Fincher directed Alien 3. What little good was in that movie was completely excised in Alien Resurrection, then the god-awful Alien vs. Predator films, don't get me started on Prometheus, and Covenant and Romulus just doubled down on the Prometheus crap…And then I tried to watch Alien Earth. It's written by children. Stupid, lazy, and barely literate children.Christina, talk me off the ledge.[Kick to Christina]Mike, what are your thoughts?[Kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news you've already heard.

Send us a textLet's start with something different.https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/en/follow-hbp/news/2023/09/04/learning-brain-make-ai-more-energy-efficient/This article from the Human Brain Project outlines the power requirements for the human brain and the results are staggering. The human brain uses only 20 watts of power to work. That's the equivalent of a computer monitor…on sleep mode.In contrast an AI requires 2.7 billion watts just to simulate even basic cognitive functions. This is the kind of article that just blows my mind and gets the creative juices flowing. So many sci-fi ideas, and it kinda flips The Matrix on its head.Christina, thoughts?[Kick to Christina]Game ideas?EN World has an article about the May 2025 Kickstarter for Deathstalker the TTRPG. You all remember 1983's Deathstalker right.Deathstalker…Conan with more boobsIt was a Roger Corman rip of Conan and it has a bit of a cult following. Now I was never a big fan of Deathstalker. I felt it was one of Corman's less interesting and very un-original films. But somebody at EN World loves Deathstalker because the wrote not 1, but 2 articles about the movies (yes, they made a sequel) and the game.https://www.enworld.org/threads/where%E2%80%99s-the-deathstalker-rpg-part-1.713549/https://www.enworld.org/threads/where%E2%80%99s-the-deathstalker-rpg-part-2.713550/Does everything deserve a TTRPG? I mean just looking at Corman's filmography and we can find several ideas that would likely make cool and interesting games. Death Race 2000, Deathsport, Rock and Roll High School, and even Frankenstein Unbound are all ripe for a little TTRPG fun.But Deathstalker?Christina, I know you love the B-Movie as much as I do, what's your thoughts on this one?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Send us a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last where we talk about news, you've already heard.https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo70cy9?Gen-Con-Preview-BlogYou may not realize it, but GenCon is just around the corner, and while the online chatter wants to turn the tariff issues into doom and gloom for GenCon, I tend to believe it will be as big as ever. Paizo's recent announcement about GenCon events seems to bear out my sentiment.Paizo has announced they are running a Starfinder Society Second Edition event with their new 4-5 hour scenario “Collisions Wake.” They also will be hosting a Pathfinder Society adventure “Under the Eye of Mantis.” Finally, they will be releasing “Battlecry!”, official skirmish rules for leading armies. While I don't play much official Pathfinder, I think this just illustrates that GenCon will be as active as ever, not only with the games you love, but with new things as well.Dust off the credit cards, put on those compression socks, and get to GenCon.Mike, What do you think of Paizo's lineup for GenCon?[Kick to Mike]Christina, What about you?[Kick to Christina]Now onto something a little more heavy hitting.https://www.enworld.org/threads/goodman-games-revives-relationship-with-anti-semitic-publisher-for-new-city-state-kickstarter-updated.713282/In 2020 Judges Guild owner Bob Bledsaw II posted a variety of racist, homophobic and antisemitic statements online. These statements rightfully created a bit of a stir at the time and various game publishers including Bat in the Attic, Frog God Games, Goodman Games, and Drivethru RPG cut all ties with Judges Guild. It should be noted that these statements were all made by Bob Bledsaw II, not by Bob Bledsaw Snr, who co-founded Judges Guild and passed away in 2008.Fast Forward to today. Goodman Games has announced a new version of “City State of the Invincible Overlord” will be coming to crowdfunding this summer. The original version was written by Bob Bledsaw Snr and the license for “City State of the Invincible Overlord” is still owned by Judges Guild. Goodman Games will be publishing this new version through a license with Judges Guild Games.Understandable this has caused a bit of concern.EN World has a great article outlining the original issues and statements along with a current response from Goodman Games.Let's start with Christina on this one, thoughts?[kick to Christina]Mike, is this problematic or is this just business?[kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Send us a textWelcome to you heard it here last where we talk about news, you've already heard.Well it's finally happened. I don't want to talk about it. I said you can't make me talk about it. But I guess when I started down this podcast road it kinda became my job to talk about it. So here we go.Tariffs.https://www.enworld.org/threads/do-tariffs-apply-to-rpg-books-maybe-maybe-not.712908/EN World posted an article titled Do Tariffs apply to RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not.The article discusses an official exemption list which declares that "printed books, brochures, leaflets and similar printed matter in single sheets, whether or not folded" and "printed books, brochures, leaflets and similar printed matter, other than in single sheets" are exempt from Tariffs. This of course made people excited. But then the other shoe dropped.US Customs and Border Protection, in November 1989 said“In our opinion, heading 9504 provides the more specific description of the merchandise in issue. The modules enhance fantasy game play; they were not designed for passive reading.”There are additions to this statement that basically define that rulebooks used for TTRPGs are not books, but games and therefore subject to Tariffs. The rulings are 35 years old and have everyone confused. Many companies are looking for clarification and hoping that their may be more rulings on what is subject to Tariffs, specifically the 145% Tariffs regarding China. To make this even more confusing I give you the landmark decision on June 28, 2024, In which the Supreme Court overruled the 40-year-old precedent of Chevron deference, which required courts to defer to agency interpretations of ambiguous statutes. In laymans terms the Supreme Court said that only the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government can make Federal Law. And only the President can issue and executive order. Laws cannot be made by agencies within the federal government. In other words, the ultimate decision regarding TTRPG tariffs doesn't lie with the US Customs, but with the President and the United States Congress. The article ends with an excellent statement and what I believe is the key to all of this. “Whatever the tariffs, what is necessary for trade is stability.”It's kinda hard to plan for the future when the future changes everyday. And now for something completely different (I hope I don't get sued for that)https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2025/05/rpg-travellers-new-campaign-the-singularity-evokes-sci-fi-grandeur-on-kickstarter-now.htmlhttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jtas3/traveller-rpg-the-singularity-campaign?ref=discovery&term=Traveller&total_hits=85815&category_id=34Traveller, the Sci-Fi roleplaying game currently published by Mongoose Publishing has just launched a Kickstarter for their new massive campaign “singularity”. It's been a minute since we have had one of these huge, multibook campaigns for Traveller and this one looks to be pretty cool. The RPG will take you to the Throneworld of the 3rd Emperium, let you peruse the archives of Reference, chart the Sylean Main. And, put charted space in your wake.I only hope it's organized better then Pirates of Drinax.

Send us a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last where we talk about news, you've already heard. In 1992 I was working night shift, which meant that on my days off I stayed up all night to keep my body in sync. What did you do to help you stay up all night in the 90's…well you either drank, or watched movies.I tended to do both. But I had a buddy that worked at a movie rental place and he was always hooking me up with the new releases. That's how I got my hands on an early home video release of John Woo's “The Killer.”That started my love and deep dive into GunFu. The Hong Kong Movie Genre of hyper violent and stylistic films focused around heroic bloodshed. So, when I saw the upcoming Backerkit release of Sisterhood – A Nuns with Guns TTRPG I was hooked.https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/parable-games/sisterhood-a-ttrpg-of-hard-boiled-nuns-exorcism-evil/launch_party?ref=update010325This thing looks really cool. Mix in a bunch of Nun Horror films with Hong Kong Action, A sprinkle of Constantine, Frank Miller's Sin City, and of course John Wick, and you get Sisterhood. This game hit Backerkit on March 13th, so you should still have time to get in and pledge if it interests you. As for me, I pledged the moment I heard the title.Christina, we have similar tastes in film, but I'm not sure if you love the Hong Kong Action as much as I do, what do you think about this one?[Kick to Christina]What about you Mike, are you breaking out the rosery for Sisterhood?[Kick to Mike] Next, we have an interesting article from Mike Tresca of EN World about creators reaching their fans and as he labeled it “The Coming Social Collapse”https://www.enworld.org/threads/rpg-evolution-the-coming-social-collapse.711928/Now I have never been a fan of social media. I watched “The Social Delima” the 2020 Documentary about social media and was properly terrified. My prior job unfortunately exposed me to all the dark and horrible places on the internet, so I always go into these conversations a bit guarded. This article focuses on fan engagement and the “For You” push of social media that can be a benefit, but it can also shut you down before you get started. The article says that the key is to cultivate Direct-to-Fan sales models, focusing on Community, and when you use social media be very strategic about its use. These are all great ideas, but in my experience, they are much easier said than done.I know this is going to be something Mike and Christina have strong opinions on so lets get started, Mike, Thoughts?[Kick to Mike]Christina?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, All the news, you've already heard.

Send us a textWelcome to you heard it here last where we talk about news, you've already heard.https://ennie-awards.com/revised-policy-on-generative-ai-usage/It seems that the Ennies Awards, an annual fan-based celebration of excellence in tabletop roleplaying, has taken a stand on AI. In 2023 the Awards added some language regarding the use of Generative AI that was a bit confusing. In 2025 they have outlawed Generative AI in any of their award's categories. That's right, if your gaming product used generative AI in any of its creation it is no longer eligible for nomination.I think it's interesting as AI has become more and more common the Ennies have decided it will not be allowed. We have talked a lot about AI on this podcast so it only seemed reasonable that we do it one more time.Christina, What's your take on this?[kick to Christina]Mike, our AI guru, thoughts?[kick to Mike]Next up is an article from EN World talking about a series of upcoming crowdfunding projects. https://www.enworld.org/threads/rpg-crowdfunding-news-%E2%80%93-dinosaur-hunting-cats-the-conspurracy-and-dark-visions.710947/I typically glance through these looking for something that spikes my interests. A new setting or idea to fire up my imagination. In this article which looks at crowdfunding projects kicking off in February I found so many little gems I just had to talk about the entire article. We start with “A Time Traveler's Guide to Dinosaur Hunting”…yes please. What a great opportunity for a ton of fun, the only problem is that it is a 5e system and well, I just don't like 5e so I doubt I will buy this one, but I might pick it up for a dinosaur source book. You can never have too many dinosaurs in your campaign.Next up was Cats! The Conspurracy from Black Book Editions. We love our cats at Oddfish Games. We love them so much we created our own system How to Roleplay with Your Cat. It's a fantastic little game that lets you bring your feline friends into your roleplaying games with you. This game is different. In Cats! The Conspurracy the players take on the role of Awakened Cats working behind the scenes. Imagine Vampire the Masquerade, but with Cats. To top it all off it will have its own game system, so that's a bonus. I love this idea. Then we have Lewd Dungeon Adventures: A Date to The Grand Ball. This is described as an adult TTRPG designed for 2 people in which the player takes on the role of the hero and the GM plays their love interests. It looks as though each scenario is designed to play three different ways based on your mood; Intimate Acts, Drinking, or Party Mode for Groups. This apparent NSFW game won't be popular with everyone, but the idea is interesting and might be fun under certain, very personal, situations. The game will have its own rules system and be compatible with 5e.And lastly, we have Dark Visions, a cult and god source book for Shadow Dark, which I have on my bookshelf, but haven't had a chance to play yet…warning guys, that's on my short list to break out this year.Christina, what are your thoughts on some of the crowdfunding games, that are probably out right now?[kick to Christina]Mike, are any of these floating your boat?[kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Rumors of broken promises, no employee payroll, and bad management practices have peppered my feeds, but the most recent news about the CEO of Evil Genius Games Dave Scott sending emails asking people to remove links to bad press articles got me interested. That followed up with a deep dive into an article written by Russ Morrissey the owner of EN World. He does a great job of listing, investigating, and discussing the issues that have plagued Evil Genius Games since the summer of 2023.https://www.enworld.org/threads/the-rise-and-fall-of-evil-genius-games.702617/https://www.enworld.org/threads/is-evil-genius-games-doubling-down-on-nfts-blockchain.704819/I wanted to spend some time talking about these issues.
