Have you ever done everything right, spoken up, negotiated, leaned in, and still gotten passed over? I sit down with journalist and author Stefanie O'Connell to talk about why confidence and hustle were never the real problem. Her new book, The Ambition Penalty, digs into the data behind the myth that women just need to ask for more, and why the fix has to happen at a systemic level. In this episode, I uncover why one shocking stat about men's leisure time left me fired up, how external deadlines can get you unstuck on big projects, and what it takes to create lasting change at home and at work. What in your life is actually giving you energy, and what is quietly robbing you of it? In this episode, I'm continuing the conversation about life's halftime with one of the most powerful exercises I use personally and with my coaching clients to get objective clarity on what needs to stay, change, or go. The exercise is simple: list out the people, income sources, obligations, activities, and habits that make up your life, then rate each one from one to five. Five means it gives you life. One means it robs you of life. And here's the rule that makes this exercise so effective: you cannot choose three. I break down why removing the safe middle forces you to get honest, how I'm using this exact system to make major decisions in my own life and business, and the difference between a "one" you need to run from and a "two" that may still be salvageable. You'll walk away with a simple framework to stop accepting the things that drain you and intentionally build a life filled with more fours and fives.   HIGHLIGHTS 01:10 The recent experience that reminded me what may be the best thing money can buy. 02:20 The gratitude practice that shifts your focus from what's missing to how much you already have. 03:55 The 5 areas you need to audit during life's halftime. 06:15 How to actually quantify something as subjective as your relationships, fun, and overall quality of life. 07:40 The simple 1-5 rating system I use with myself and my coaching clients. 08:25 Why you're NOT allowed to choose a three, and how that rule forces you to get honest. 09:50 Are your income sources giving you life or costing you your life? 12:55 How I'm personally auditing my relationships, income opportunities, and free time right now. 14:15 The rating that revealed I need to make big changes to one area of my business.   RESOURCES Use code CHRIS and save $1,000 on your custom social media strategy with The Brand LAB HERE! What if having more time isn't the same thing as feeling free? This week, I'm joined by Dr. Ann Tsung, a NASA flight surgeon, triple board-certified emergency physician, entrepreneur, and mom, to explore one of the biggest misconceptions about productivity: that if we could just free up our calendars, we'd finally feel at peace. But as Ann shares from her own sabbatical and travels abroad, time freedom isn't just about controlling your schedule. It's about transforming your relationship with time. Together, we explore: the five stages of time freedom why "fake time freedom" keeps so many high-achievers feeling stressed the difference between managing your time and managing your energy why white space on your calendar can feel surprisingly uncomfortable how outsourcing, boundaries, and nervous system regulation work together why saying "yes" to everything keeps us trapped in scarcity and how creating space for possibility often leads to the moments that matter most One of my favorite insights from this conversation is that the goal isn't simply to optimize every minute. Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen precisely because we left room for them. If you've ever wondered why a full calendar doesn't always equal a full life, this conversation offers a completely different way of thinking about success, rest, and what it really means to experience time freedom. From Y2K nostalgia to red carpet chaos, award show upsets to reality TV scandals, nothing is off-limits. Whether they're revisiting the cultural staples that defined an era or breaking down the latest internet-breaking headlines, expect hot takes, deep dives, and plenty of side-eye.  You've probably heard a million different time management strategies by now, but may still feel busy, exhausted, and like you don't have time to do the things you truly love. Today, we are going to change that. I surveyed thousands of Liz Moody podcast listeners and found there are four specific time hurdles all of us run into. We're going to talk about exactly how to overcome those hurdles with pragmatic, actionable steps that work. And, here's the catch, we are not talking about time management to get more done. We are talking about time management to create a life that's filled with joy and fun. My expert guest is Laura Vanderkam. She is a time management researcher who has studied thousands of people's real time logs, a bestselling author of multiple books, a business owner, mother of 5 kids, and she also sings in a choir every week. She has figured out how to use every hour intentionally, and she's going to help you do the same.

Today, on Karl and Crew, we wrapped up our weekly theme of “What are you looking for?” with Morgan Krueger, who discussed the importance of keeping God the focal point and giving Him glory always, not taking it for ourselves. Morgan is a wife, mother, speaker, and author who found her voice connecting with women seeking biblical freedom from the brokenness of shame. Morgan has also written a book called “Made to Magnify: Choosing to Live for Jesus When Everything Tells You to Live for Yourself.” Then we had Dr. Elizabeth Smith join us to discuss what we should be doing in our free time and how to intentionally fill it, as well as our kids' free time. She also spoke about available classes through Moody Online. Dr. Smith is the Associate Dean of Academics for Moody Online and the Program Head of Children and Family Ministry. Some things can't be explained… but maybe they don't need to be? ✨   Jenny Blake lost 80% of her revenue in two weeks, and it led straight to her latest book and body of work, Free Time.   Sarah Young noticed that her biggest opportunities arrive almost every time she steps away and sits in the sunshine.     And then there's this: Jenny found the In Season planners splayed out on a New York City sidewalk…half a block from her building, pen and card still tucked inside, as if the package had simply escaped and waited for her.   I cannot explain it… and that's exactly what this episode is about ✨ We get into the signs and synchronicities that show up when you're paying attention, the vulnerability of creating something from the heart, and what happens when you finally give your ideas room to grow.   These are two of my favorite humans, and this conversation was pure joy

For a long time, I was there every single day.As women, we're natural caretakers. We spend our days pouring into everyone and everything around us, and by the time we find a spare five minutes, we're so fried that we don't even know what we actually need anymore. So we default to what I call a "Jacuzzi experience"... scrolling our phones, checking email one more time, reaching for something that feels good in the moment but leaves us feeling empty. The problem isn't that you don't have free time. It's that the free time you DO have isn't actually recharging you.In this episode I'm walking you through The Connection Code framework: Five simple categories of things you can do in just five minutes to actually reconnect with yourself, generate dopamine naturally, and feel like yourself again. You don't need more hours in your day. Jenny Blake: Free Time, Time-to-Revenue Ratios, and Rejecting the "Time Is Money" Myth

Jenny Blake, author of "Free Time," reveals how her father—an architect who gives ruthless editorial feedback with his "WKIYB" abbreviation (we know it's your book)—taught her to eliminate unnecessary qualifiers and strengthen her writing. Drawing from her experience creating a paid family newsletter at age 11 with 50 subscribers, Blake has always been entrepreneurial, guided by her mother's lesson: "you should always know how to support yourself." As the breadwinner in her marriage who rejects traditional domestic roles, Blake challenges societal pressures on both men and women around earning and gender expectations. She introduces the "time-to-revenue ratio"—a missing P&L metric that measures how much time it takes to generate revenue—arguing that revenue, ease, and joy aren't mutually exclusive. Blake dismantles Benjamin Franklin's "time is money" myth, explaining that business owners aren't rewarded for butt-in-seat time and that working less actually requires more sophistication through systems, automation, and delegation. Her three-part framework—align, design, assign—helps entrepreneurs optimize what's now, not just navigate what's next. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
