Its thought that over 30 million soldiers were conscripted into the Red Army during WW2 and many saw action in some of the most brutal campaigns of the conflict. In this episode Chris talks to Andryusha Taras of Osoaviakhim Foundation about their unique approach to reenacting, postitioning themselves as more of a living history network than a traditional reenacting group. There is also news of a project called "Silent Heroes" which talks to and archives the memories of the few remaining Red Army soldiers who relocated to the Untited States after the end of WW2. Well, that's up to you to decide. It's all right here on How Rude, Tanneritos!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Reliving Lambeau Memories - A Vikings Fan's Tales from Packers Week — In this special Packers Week episode of 'Skoldiers & Spice,' Sal Spice dives into her memorable experiences at Lambeau Field while supporting the Minnesota Vikings. Starting with an introduction that sets the tone for Packers Week, Sal details the crazy, unique, and fun experiences she's encountered over her years as a passionate Vikings fan. She shares stories from her four trips to Lambeau Field, touching on everything from game-day excitement to personal relationships. Sal recounts her first visit in 2014, marred by rain and a tough loss, yet highlighted by amazing 50-yard-line seats gifted by an ex-boyfriend. This trip was particularly memorable due to the controversy surrounding her taking another man with those tickets, ultimately leading to an awkward yet solo adventure. She continues to narrate the dramatic stories of her 2015 season, including dating a Packers fan, attending a high-stakes division-deciding game, and the emotional rollercoaster that followed. The episode also explores Sal's mixed feelings about Packers fans and candid thoughts on Vikings season ticket holders who sell their tickets to rival fans. An unexpected text from her ex recalls vividly suppressed memories, adding a twist to the narrative. This episode is a heartfelt mix of nostalgia, rivalry, and personal growth, with Sal highlighting the passion and emotions tied to being a Vikings fan while humorously reflecting on past relationships and football fandom complexities. She ends the episode with a confident prediction for the upcoming game, encouraging feedback from her listeners, and promising more story-time episodes during the offseason or less busy weeks. The episode is an engaging journey through the highs and lows of being a die-hard Vikings supporter, making it a must-listen for any fan. 00:00 Welcome to Skoldiers and Spice 00:09 Introducing Packers Week 00:54 Lambeau Field Adventures Begin 01:55 First Trip to Lambeau Field 02:46 The 2014 Season and Teddy Bridgewater 03:26 A Memorable Birthday Game 04:35 Unexpected Gift and Awkward Situations 06:04 The Journey to Lambeau 07:44 Game Day Disappointments 14:27 Reflecting on the First Trip 15:55 Meeting a Packers Fan 17:04 The 2015 Season and New Challenges 18:12 Week 16 Showdown 20:00 Intense Playoff Atmosphere 22:59 The Closest Thing to a Super Bowl Win 23:30 The Tense Final Moments 24:04 Post-Game Emotions and Reflections 24:30 A Relationship Strained by Football 26:23 Celebrating Despite the Tension 27:02 Reflecting on Packer Fans 28:20 The Season Ticket Holder Dilemma 29:41 Unexpected Texts and Memories 31:49 Reenacting the Past 37:02 Concluding Thoughts and Future Stories 38:26 Final Remarks and Farewell Join Us as fans! In this conversation, Jonathan and Nicole discuss the inspiration behind Jonathan's book on Advent and the timing of its release. They explore the importance of waiting and longing, and how to navigate cynicism and despair. They also discuss finding God in small moments and witnessing holiness in the midst of chaos. The conversation highlights the personal and universal nature of Advent and the power of real relationships, surrender and resistance, and the sound of God. He emphasizes the importance of bearing witness, welcoming the judgment of God, and discerning when to say yes or no. Overall, the conversation explores the intersection of personal and global longing, the significance of Advent practices, and the liberation that comes from embracing truth and responsibility. We discuss embracing regret and growth, reflecting on past hurts, moving forward and living new life, bringing healing and freedom, the liberating power of truth, living with fierce humility, having nothing to hide or defend, the fierceness and tenderness of saints, and their first sit-down as a couple. Takeaways The Christian story is meant to pull all our levers, connecting us to a story that is bigger, older, and more future-oriented than ourselves. There is a collective waiting and longing for the restoration and reconciliation of all things, both on a large scale and in our personal lives. Advent calls us to consecrate the time of waiting and longing, recognizing it as a sacrament and an opportunity for reconciliation in broken relationships. The longing for justice in the world and the longing for reconciliation in personal relationships are interconnected and should not be abandoned or prioritized over one another. The sound of God is one of liberation, tenderness, and freedom, and it transcends the harsh, constrictive, and coercive voices that claim to speak for God. Regret is a natural part of life, and it's important to acknowledge and learn from it. Reflecting on past hurts and the harm we may have caused others is necessary for growth and healing. Moving forward and living new life requires honest self-reflection and dealing with our own issues. Bringing healing and freedom to others requires a combination of fierce honesty and humility. The liberating power of truth can set us free and create a context for growth and transformation. Living with fierce humility means being open to feedback and constantly seeking truth. Having nothing to hide or defend allows for a more authentic and beautiful way of living. The saints embody both fierceness and tenderness, and they serve as role models for living a truthful and humble life. As a couple, Jonathan and his wife have a unique dynamic of learning from each other and asking questions. This conversation is just the beginning of many more discussions to come. Reenacting their history through things like the Celebration of Booths was the people's way of remembering that God will save them now and in the future just as He’s saved them in the past. They were saying that they wanted to be directed by the Word of God, not tradition. And because of their obedience to God’s Word, there was gladness. Obedience to the Word of God creates gladness in His people, which in turn prompts more attention to studying, rejoicing in, and obeying His Word. If we fail to remember properly, we will drift away from what we need to know. (Hebrews 2:1: “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.”)

Whether its things that go bump in the night or original gear carrying a disturbing aura - historical reenacting sometimes intersects with seemingly paranormal experiences. In this latest annual Halloween Special Chris and Ben read spooky stories sent in by listeners and share some of their own tales of terror. Best listen to this one with the lights on..........
In Parashat Ki Tavo, Moshe instructs the people to do an extensive ceremony when they come to a specific mountain after they enter the land. Many aspects of this ceremony are reminiscent of Sinai. A mountain, words of Torah written on stones, building an altar and offering sacrifices. It looks like a reenactment of entering into a covenant with God at Sinai and all of the obligations entailed by berit. But why is there a need to reenact Sinai? Wasn't that one-time event powerful enough on its own to solidify entry into covenant for all future generations?
Reenacting is a hobby that's best done with other like minded people - but what if there are few people locally or nationally who are interested in taking part ? In this episode Chris and Ben are joined by Logi, one of only a very small number of people interested in WW2 Reenacting in Iceland. His reenacting group consists of only three members and, with no events taking place at home, Logi has focused much of his efforts on creating a YouTube channel that has become well respected by reenactors around the world. You can find Logi's channel on Youtube by clicking the link below... https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCvuFarR9RD8dAHl8oPJj1Cw As ever, a very big thank you to all our Patrons for their support - we really couldn't do this without you ! Mexico has very little connection with WW2 and, as a consequence, there are currently few people interested in reenacting the conflict there. In this episode Chris talks to Joseph about the challenges of setting up a unit there that portrays the Blaue Division, comprised of Spanish volunteers within the German Army.
