In November, our Community gathered together to celebrate all that we accomplished in 2022. In 2022, whether you were a Rider, Challenger, Volunteer or Supporter, every mile pedaled, dollar raised, hour volunteered or cheered - you had an impact. Together, as of Ride Weekend, we've raised over $14 million dollars for our One Goal, bringing the total to over $250 million - with every single cent going directly to innovative cancer research. Our Community is an incredible testament to what can be accomplished when unity is achieved among diversity and together we envision the day when the word “cancer” is only used in the past tense. Dr. Margaret Gatti-Mays is a dedicated assistant professor in the Division of Medical Oncology at the OSUCCC – James, specializing in immunotherapy. If you look at Mary Navarro's life, she’s had different titles: daughter, bank teller, student, wife, mother, Senior Executive Vice President and Pelotonia participant. In 2020 alone, Mary has ridden over 500 miles and has raised more than $37,000 dollars. Mary's most recent title, though, is patient. On ride day, you may have noticed one rider in particular dressed in a Superman costume. That's Patrick Rogers, a dedicated comic book and sci-fi fan. Courtney Granville has several connections to our one goal. The first is very close to home. As a nurse practitioner at The James Cancer Hospital, Amber Holbrook makes a daily impact in her patients’ lives. While the day she graduated from nursing school was certainly an important day, it’s what happened just six days earlier that’s had the most profound effect on her life. Amber has been a Pelotonia participant since 2016 with Team Buckeye. On her rider profile, she features an important photo of herself and her mother Barbara. Next to it, her bio reads: “Always teaching a lesson, my mom taught us how to look and see life rather than see loss.” Amber talks about the unique and beautiful way she chooses to honor her mother’s life. Every year, more than three thousand volunteers descend on Pelotonia weekend and quite literally make our event possible. Whether it’s making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or mixing gallons and gallons of Gatorade, each and every volunteer plays a vitally important role in our mission to end cancer. The Pelotonia Fellowship Program helps fund young scientists who are pursuing a career in cancer research. Since the program’s start in 2010, the Fellowship Program has awarded over 522 student fellowships. At the age of 21, Mary Connolly was preparing to graduate from The Ohio State University. But, just a year into her college career, she had been experiencing pain behind her knee.
