What goes bump in the night giving Kyle a fright? This week its Lake Placid (1999) directed by Steve Miner. This comedy monster movie has a massive crocodile terrorizing a small town lake. Why did the monster get so little screen time? Did Oliver Platt's charm work on the boys? What the hell is the name of this lake? Be wary of Kyle's full moon as the Boo Boys break it all down.

Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, and Walt Gorney reprise their respective roles from the first film as Alice Hardy, Pamela Voorhees, and Crazy Ralph. Amy Steel and John Furey also star. Taking place five years after the first film, Part 2 follows a similar premise, with an unknown stalker killing a group of camp counselors at a training camp near Crystal Lake. The film marks the debut of Jason Voorhees as the series' main antagonist. This week's creature feature takes us to Maine, where there's something sinister lurking in the serene waters of Lake Placid. Directed by Steve Miner and starring a stacked cast featuring Bill Pullman (handsome king), Brendan Gleeson, and a foul mouthed Betty White (RIP). This was a horror film we both loved in the 90s, and we're chomping at the bit to get our jaws around this monster movie, but the question remains, does it hold up? Is Lake Placid the greatest crocodile movie of all time, or is it looking more like Lake Flaccid as we discuss the fun, the flawed, and the scaled and clawed in this childhood piece of 90s nostalgia.

It's our second Steve Miner movie in a row, as we're reviewing WARLOCK (1989) in our latest episode! We thought this would be an interesting movie to discuss after having so much fun talking about HOUSE (1985) in our previous episode, but we bumped it up the priority list after our host Eric watched its sequel WARLOCK: THE ARMAGEDDON (1993). A review of that sequel is coming up soon (with a very special guest!), but before then we'll have our Halloween special, and Jake announces his pick for that episode at the end of our WARLOCK chat. In the meantime, we had a great time discussing a terrific script from David Twohy, along with some scenes trimmed from the original script, the directorial work of Steve Miner, and of course the fabulous central performance by the late Julian Sands. We really hope everyone enjoys this one. Believe it or not, this episode's been a long time coming for us. We've talked about covering this movie since the beginning of the pod, but we finally sat down to review HOUSE (1985)! This film from director Steve Miner and writers Fred Dekker and Ethan Wiley has been a favorite of our host Nick for many, many years, and it was a delight to finally discuss it on the show. Although this review is not without its cost, as Nick has to endure far more comic talk than he could have possibly anticipated before we hit "record." But we had a blast chatting about the movie, taboo tooth-brushing techniques, Herculean efforts to unearth four eighties comic books, introducing the K.R.E.O.N. certification system and much more. We really hope everyone enjoys the review. We recorded our milestone 150th episode on Friday, September 13th and decided to mark the occasion by covering the 2nd film in the Friday franchise. With our special guest Eugene we're going back to 1981 to revisit the original Baghead Jason. This film made absolutely no sense considering the info from the first movie. Audiences didn't care. More deaths, more destruction. Come, revisit the Friday before the hockey mask. Pack your sleeping bags and don't stand with your back to a window because it's time for Sean S. Cunningham & Victor Miller's FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) to prove that a movie capitalizing on a trend can become a trendsetter in its own right. We then look at how FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 (1981), directed by Steve Miner, altered the trajectory of the franchise and overall trend.
Laci and Matt are off to learn how to be better camp counselors by getting back to basics. Safety. Canoeing. Shooting arrows. Singing “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley.” Making love and drawing the ire of Mrs. Voorhees. Trying to keep their bodies fragrance free, so as not to attract bears. On a totally unrelated note, this episode is about Friday the 13th Part 2, Matt's favorite entry in his favorite horror series. It's the debut of Jason as the killer, although he still hasn't quite nailed his look. Still, it's an absolute blast and a wonderful time capsule of the 1970s turning into the ‘80s. So put on your little Mickey Mouse shirt and even littler short pants and join us at Camp Crystal Lake… actually, this one's at Camp Packanack, but it's all kind of the same. This week, Steven & Leo watch the absolute classic movie Friday the 13th: Part 3. They make lots of Rocky references, talk about the talent of Steve Miner, actor improv time, washing away blood with dish-soap, "behind-the-scenes" moments, a killer final girl marathon and what happens when a simple movie strikes the perfect balance between being scary, funny and charmingly imperfect.Watch the trailer here - Friday the 13th: Part 3Listen to Critters 4 Here - Cinema SlabLeo mentions Annie Wilkes... Is revenge for a mother sweeter than that for a son? May There be a Sequel continues with Steve Miner's “Friday The 13th Part 2” (1981). Apologies, life got crazy with upcoming graduations, job changes, and well life. However, we didn't want to leave you high and dry without an episode this week. We figured if we were going into the vault to rerelease an episode we had to do Steve Miner's House to fit with this month's theme. Apologies and we will be back on Wednesday with the House of a 1000 Corpses episode.
Welcome to the Horror Project Podcast. Join hosts Laura and Phil as they review Lake Placid (1999).This was a first time watch for both us, and it wildly swerved every expectation that we may have had going into it. (We've only waited 25 years to check it out). With an incredibly strong cast delivering performances which left us scratching our heads, Brendan Gleeson we are looking at you!?! With an odd accent which travels from Dublin to Maine, plus everywhere in-between.We also discuss Betty White's disregard for her own cattle and the CGI / animatronic hybrid which creates the giant killer Crocodile. We couldn't help but compare it to the dinosaur's featured in Jurassic Park which was released only 6 years earlier. Plus we shall be finding a place on the leaderboard for the movie during our Ranking. We hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening!Email - Horrorprojectpodcast@hotmail.com X (Formerly Twitter) - @TheHorrorProje1Instagram - horrorprojectpodcastTikTok - @horrorprojectpodcast

We've always loved Julian Sands, and were saddened to hear of his disappearance and the revelation of his passing in 2023. To celebrate his life and career, we discuss a personal favorite, along with a pair of campier entries that, if nothing else, are fun to laugh about. What happens when a warlock escapes the clutches of death, travels through a portal three centuries into the future, to locate three parts of The Grand Grimoire to undo creation? Well, you'd better believe that a determined witch-hunter follows to try to stop him! Julian Sands is Warlock (1989)!Not into warlocks and all that stuff? Well, how about Julian Sands as an infuriatingly meek surgeon who opportunistically uses a hit-and-run accident to imprison, and physically alter, the woman of his dreams? Probably not a particularly healthy thing to do. It's a story of obsession and possession, with some questionable acting. But hey, if Boxing Helena (1993) is a match for your fetish, you do you.And then from there, if you thought that the acting in Boxing Helena was bad, get ready for some of the most remarkably poor acting you have ever seen from a complete cast. Thankfully, Julian Sands returns as the warlock, the one marginal bright spot. Though it probably would have helped if these actors had some decent dialogue to work with. However, as it stands, Warlock: The Armageddon (1993) is probably best used as a device to torture your enemies.
Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich present their Lake Placid Movie Series 1999 2012 Review. Lake Placid is a series of American monster horror comedy films created by David E. Kelley. Produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the series began with Lake Placid (1999) directed by Steve Miner, and was followed by five television sequels, Lake Placid 2 (2007) by David Flores, Lake Placid 3 (2010) by Griff Furst, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter (2012) by Don Michael Paul, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015) by A.B. Stone, being a crossover with the Anaconda series, and Lake Placid: Legacy (2018) by Darrell Roodt. Each installment revolves around the presence of giant, 30-foot-long man-eating crocodiles in the fictional location of Black Lake, Maine, and the efforts of various groups to capture or destroy the creatures. All of the films (except for Legacy) reference members of the fictitious Bickerman family.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

To end out #AuGHOST, a celebration of the ghost films released by New World Pictures, we talk about a movie that started a franchise (albeit one New World only half participated In): HOUSE! The film about a haunted house taken over by a deceased owner's nephew with his own strange history brought director Steve Miner and producer Sean S. Cunningham into the New World fold, just as they had finished working on the first three FRIDAY THE 13TH films! Miner would quickly become a go-to director for New World, while Cunningham would shepherd the rest of the franchise, which we will rank in this episode! Also we will discuss the incredible George Wendt, how to flirt your way into getting free babysitting, the wrong way to cook a microwave dinner, and Marc's fascination with toilet flushing! We've had a great time during this #AuGHOST, and HOUSE is the perfect way to close it out!
What's better than watching Betty White curse out a bunch of cops? We can't think of much — other than getting the chance to gush about it for an hour and a half. And we knew that if we were going to do that, we had to bring in the experts. So we invited Out on the Lanai, the first Golden Girls podcast, to join us on a new Spooky Tuesday as we covered Lake Placid (1999). Half a creature feature and half a Bill Pullman rom-com, this flick features Bridget Fonda mid-breakup spiral as she drags her butt out to the boonies of Maine to flirt with lady cops, banter with eccentric billionaires, and hunt for prehistoric monsters. Whether you're comparing it to The Meg or to Nope or to Ally McBeal, there's no denying that this movie makes for one golden time with the girls.Follow Out on the Lanai on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. With the unfortunate passing of Julian Sands, we wanted to honor this incredible and magnetic actor by releasing a special Patreon episode where we covered 1989's WARLOCK with the film's #1 fan and Retuning Champion, Megan Sunday! Along the way, we dig into the film's hostile attitude toward cats, stay on the lookout for a Steve Miner Butt Shot, learn to use a purse like a Dutch Oven, and generally lust after the hotness that is Julian Sands!! All this, plus we examine the Warlock's complicated relationship to windows, Megan opens up about the kinds of smut she enjoys reading, and Patrick finally explains what the Santa Ana winds are to Gena!!
