Brendan Schaub breaks down the blueprint for beating the Dagestani fighting style after Song Yadong's huge win over Umar Nurmagomedov. It was a weird weekend in combat sports, especially for the big betting favorites. Umar Nurmagomedov cemented his place as the Ziggy Sobotka of his family, getting his plug pulled by Song Ya Dong in their UFC Fight Night main event in Shanghai. The “next Mike Tyson” also lost — as Moses Itauma threatened to rename the Coleman Index after himself, getting more tired than he'd ever been in his life against Filip Hrgovic before his corner threw in the towel. And then there was poor Mike Perry, who dislocated his shoulder early in his fight against replacement opponent Brandon Jenkins (curse you Dillon Danis!) and coughed up his eighth loss in his last 12 MMA fights. Back to BKFC for Platinum Mike, it seems. Plus, earlier in the week, Bella Mir lost her Dana White Contender Series fight (where she was a -6000 favorite). So, that was bad, too. Seriously, you guys, who pissed off the MMA Gods? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

With leadership experience spanning Guardian, Nuveen, UBS, and Merrill Lynch, Mike has spent his career helping firms evolve their wealth management strategies while expanding access to comprehensive financial planning. Jack and Mike discuss Guardian's protection-first philosophy and why holistic planning begins long before retirement. They explore the firm's “living balance sheet” framework, the growing importance of strategic partnerships, Guardian's investment in Avantos, and why AI is best viewed as a tool that helps advisors deepen client relationships—not replace them. In this episode: (00:00) - Intro (02:24) - Mike's path to Guardian Life (05:09) - The evolution of separately managed accounts (07:38) - Guardian's protection-first planning philosophy (11:20) - The “living balance sheet” approach to holistic advice (13:28) - Why Guardian rebranded Park Avenue Wealth Management (16:23) - Why Guardian invested in Avantos (18:48) - AI as a force multiplier for advisors (20:51) - Why strategic partnerships accelerate innovation (23:01) - Mike's key takeaways (27:51) - Mike's interest outside of work Quotes "What clients need is trusted advice from an advisor. So, the real engagement, where trust gets built, and problems are solved, is in that back-and-forth planning discussion with the end client." ~ Mike Perry "Our opportunity here is protection first, because we're engaging clients earlier in their lives and marrying it with a much broader set of questions and client engagement across all of our planning." ~ Mike Perry "Innovation has to be a constant thing you focus on, because across financial services, one day you may provide something at less cost, but it's immediately replicated. Most Valuable Promotions put on its inaugural MMA event on Netflix last weekend. If we're being honest, it was a lot. The mismatch-filled main card played out exactly according to chalk. Mike Perry beat Nate Diaz into a living death before their fight was stopped due to cuts. Big Fran KOed a puffed-up light heavyweight in Philipe Lins after a few minutes of toying with his food. And that much-ballyhooed main event between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano? Hoo boy. We kinda knew it was going to be bad, but we didn't know it was gonna be THAT bad. But perhaps what mattered more than the outcome of the actual fights was the event itself. A lot of people seemed to watch, and while the live broadcast was certainly not without its flaws, it also wasn't terrible. Dare we say it suggests MVP MMA has a positive future? You know, if they ever want to do another show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ronda Rousey got her fairytale ending. On Saturday night, Rousey returned to the cage after a nearly 10-year absence, headlining MVP's first MMA event, and hoping to rewrite the sad ending to her historic MMA career, and she did just that, submitting Gina Carano with an armbar in just 17 seconds. But what does any of this mean for Rousey, MVP, and the sport of MMA? Following a historic night with MVP MMA 1, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to Rousey's quick win and where MVP MMA might go from here. Additionally, they discuss Mike Perry battering Nate Diaz, Francis Ngannou's triumphant return, the rest of the Netflix card, plus even UFC Vegas 117 and the main event win for Arnold Allen.
