LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 11, 2026) – [THIS IS AN ENCORE EPISODE.] Artificial intelligence is moving fast — and Kentucky lawmakers are working to make sure the state can take advantage of new tools without sacrificing transparency, privacy or public trust. On this episode of 'Behind the Blue', Kentucky State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe — a Lexington native and University of Kentucky alum — joins host Kody Kiser to talk about her path into public service, what she's hearing from constituents in Senate District 12, and how she views UK's land-grant mission of service to communities across the Commonwealth.  Bledsoe represents parts of Fayette County along with Woodford, Mercer and Boyle counties. In the conversation, she points to infrastructure — including roads and aging water and wastewater systems — as a major concern for the region, while also highlighting the role higher education, signature industries and health care play in central Kentucky's future.  The interview also explores Bledsoe's emerging leadership on technology policy, including Kentucky Senate Bill 4, which she describes as a framework for "responsible AI governance" within state government. Bledsoe explains that the goal is not to regulate every minor use of technology, but to establish guardrails for higher-risk, decision-making tools — including creating transparency around where and how AI is used, and building oversight to ensure accountability.  "AI is not spellcheck," Bledsoe said, emphasizing the need for stronger scrutiny when government systems generate new outputs or influence decisions. She also discusses concerns around deceptive AI-generated political content and the importance of ensuring voters can trust what they see — particularly in the final days leading up to an election.  Looking ahead, Bledsoe points to a wide range of challenges and opportunities — from consumer protection and privacy to safeguarding minors online — and says Kentucky will likely need to keep refining its approach as the technology evolves. She also describes how institutions like UK can help shape the state's AI future through research, workforce preparation and teaching students to be critical, responsible users of these tools. Today, Michael speaks with Oneika Mays. Oneika is a meditation teacher, yoga practitioner, and writer whose work centers on mindfulness, loving kindness, and compassionate living. After leaving a successful career in retail leadership following profound personal loss and transformation, she spent more than a decade bringing meditation and healing practices into spaces often overlooked—working with individuals and communities who have felt judged, forgotten, or alone, leading her to working on Rikers Island with incarcerated individuals. Her book, Sit With Me: A No-BS Journey to Mindfulness and Meditation, explores grief, self-compassion, unconditional friendliness, and the courage it takes to truly face yourself. Conversation Highlights Include: -How profound loss, career upheaval, and a canceled wedding became the catalyst for a completely different way of living. -Choosing discomfort and transformation over staying trapped in a life that no longer felt aligned or authentic. -A deeply honest reflection on grief, and learning to hold sadness and joy at the same time without denying either experience. -Why asking better questions creates expansion, self-awareness, and curiosity instead of emotional shutdown and certainty. -An invitation to "sit with yourself" by meeting discomfort, shame, fear, and uncertainty with tenderness instead of avoidance. -How real freedom often begins in the moments we stop running from difficult emotions and allow ourselves to fully feel them. -A powerful conversation about loving people you may never agree with, like, or understand, while still recognizing their humanity. -What more than a decade of teaching meditation inside Rikers Island revealed about judgment, compassion, trauma, and human connection. -An honest look at prison systems, accountability, restorative healing, and why true transformation requires support beyond punishment. Next, Michael closes the episode with a guided meditation on introspection, remembering your True nature, awakening to Divine Presence, and living from expanded awareness.

What if the way you lead today was shaped long before your first job, team, or business? In this episode of the Story Engine Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Kevin Mays to explore how early childhood roles—whether you were the oldest, youngest, or an only child—quietly influence your leadership style, decision-making, and even the types of people you attract into your life and work. In this conversation, Amy sits down with mindfulness teacher and writer Oneika Mays to talk about her new book, Sit with Me: A No-BS Journey to Mindfulness and Meditation—part memoir, part meditation guide, and an unflinching look at what it means to practice loving-kindness in real-world conditions, including inside Rikers Island. Oneika shares what it felt like to work inside a system built on hierarchy and dehumanization, the tension of receiving a salary inside a harmful structure, and the moment she realized that “the system isn't broken—it's working as designed.” From there, the conversation widens into the heart of metta: not as softness or spiritual bypassing, but as grounded, actionable love that can hold anger, boundaries, and truth-telling without losing our humanity. About Oneika and the BookBook: Sit with Me: A No-BS Journey to Mindfulness and Meditation (HarperOne / HarperCollins; on sale March 3, 2026). How Oneika describes it: “Meditation is for messy people… This book is part memoir, part meditation guide—and it's about showing up exactly as you are.” What You'll Hear in This EpisodeThe embodied “ick” of being treated as “one of us” by staff—how hierarchy shows up in small moments, tone shifts, and access. Why reform can get absorbed by a machine—and how “helping” can unintentionally make a harmful system look more palatable. The pivot from “fixing” to “serving,” and why that matters in any therapeutic or helping profession.Metta as a practice that includes righteous anger, loving accountability, and clear boundaries (not performative positivity). The inner work of not needing to be liked—and why unconditional love is not the same as being “nice.”A grounded call to action: personal responsibility, collective responsibility, and small acts that add up. Core Themes to Highlight (for your episode description)1) Metta is not performative softness. It's a disciplined practice of staying human—especially when it's inconvenient, when you're angry, and when you need boundaries.2) The “system” is not abstract—it's embodied. Hierarchy is felt through tone, access, positioning, and whose body is treated as more worthy.3) Serving is different than fixing. When we see people as broken, we become controlling or paternalistic. When we serve, we stay in relationship with wholeness.4) Choosing yourself can be an ethical act. Not as individualism, but as harm reduction—because depleted care can become harmful care.5) Collective change is built from small refusals. Not pre-agreeing to dehumanization. Practicing “no” with steadiness, clarity, and community. It is a reminder that with sin, there is a chain reaction; what starts out as seemingly not harmful can lead to hurt or even death.Foundation Scripture: 2 Samuel 11:1-5How can Agape Leaders serve you?   Please find us at:         Website:  http://www.agapeleaders.org/    LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregg-mays/      Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/agapeleaders.org      Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/agapeleaders10/ Bible Break With Agape Leaders: http://www.agapeleaders.org/daily-devotionTik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greggmays            YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCmM7ETR652mLtDSKSjda-pwGet Your Copy of the A Word Wednesday Devotion: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+Word+Wednesday+Devotion&ref=nav_bb_sbRead Dr. Mays' book Practical Leadership: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=practical+leadership+lessons+from+an+average+leader&crid=259U5RNS5J5W5&sprefix=Practical+Leadership%2Caps%2C102&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_4_20 Give to ALCFM: http://www.agapeleaders.org/store/p15/Agape_Leaders_Christian_Fellowship_Ministry_Support.html

This week Dr. Gregg Mays is joined by his wife, Son Hui Mays. They talk about how God can be found in the most unexpected places. This story is one about God at the boarding gate. Recently Son was supposed to fly to South Korea, but there was an unexpected “hiccup” that turned into a divine appointment. Son tells how “God helped me at the boarding gate.”Without God's intervention, Son was in for a long layover in Seattle, WA or a long stay at the Inchon airport in South Korea. Listen to their story of how God intervened and the result has been the most peaceful travel delay, which has included God moving in ways that could be described as a miracle. How can Agape Leaders serve you?  Please find us at:         Website:  http://www.agapeleaders.org/    LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregg-mays/      Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/agapeleaders.org     Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/agapeleaders10/    Bible Break With Agape Leaders: http://www.agapeleaders.org/daily-devotionTik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greggmaysYouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCmM7ETR652mLtDSKSjda-pwGet Your Copy of the A Word Wednesday Devotion: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+Word+Wednesday+Devotion&ref=nav_bb_sbRead Dr. Mays' book Practical Leadership: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=practical+leadership+lessons+from+an+average+leader&crid=259U5RNS5J5W5&sprefix=Practical+Leadership%2Caps%2C102&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_4_20Give to ALCFM: http://www.agapeleaders.org/store/p15/Agape_Leaders_Christian_Fellowship_Ministry_Support.html

Hold onto your elf ears! This week, Sarah welcomes the hilarious Maddie Maze to the studio. Things get "steamy" early as they discuss the questionable benefits of DIY Yoni steams and the mystery of "vagina bleaching" black underwear. Sarah recounts a dark 39th birthday spent bombing for a sleepy audience, while Maddie takes us back to the "musty" halls of 2010s anime conventions and the legendary Homestuck fandom. The duo then predicts the future of combat: 1 million Mike Tysons vs. 10,000 Gorillas and the inevitable "Kill-More War" (Kill Tony fans vs. Gilmore Girls moms). Plus, Sarah explores a potential copper-haired midlife crisis and unearths an incredibly awkward throwback video of Matt Rife trying to flirt with Zendaya. He highlights the battle that takes place in Revelation 12:7-8 to teach about the importance of having obedient faith to God in all circumstances. He shares that when we are not walking in our calling, we will falter in our walk. When we stay connected to God through reading our Bible we will learn how to know God's will for our lives and when God calls, we can pivot without hesitation.Foundation Scripture: Revelation 12:7-8How can Agape Leaders serve you?   Please find us at:         Website:  http://www.agapeleaders.org/    LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregg-mays/      Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/agapeleaders.org      Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/agapeleaders10/ Bible Break With Agape Leaders: http://www.agapeleaders.org/daily-devotionTik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greggmays            YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCmM7ETR652mLtDSKSjda-pwGet Your Copy of the A Word Wednesday Devotion: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+Word+Wednesday+Devotion&ref=nav_bb_sbRead Dr. Mays' book Practical Leadership: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=practical+leadership+lessons+from+an+average+leader&crid=259U5RNS5J5W5&sprefix=Practical+Leadership%2Caps%2C102&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_4_20 Give to ALCFM: http://www.agapeleaders.org/store/p15/Agape_Leaders_Christian_Fellowship_Ministry_Support.html

Persian Poetry, Radical Love, and the Soul of Iran“The path to God goes through that most difficult of beings, the human being.” – Omid SafiRecorded live at a SAND Community Gathering (April 2026). Watch the full conversation on the SAND Website. We are watching, once again, what empire does: not only to bodies, but to the long memory of a people; to the libraries and sacred sites; to art, language, and the ruins that hold the oldest threads of human spiritual inquiry. We are thinking of the civilization that gave us Rumi, Hafez, Omar Khayyam, Forough Farrokhzad — mystics and rebels and lovers of paradox who understood something about the human soul that we are still, centuries later, trying to catch up to. This gathering invited us to come together: to read poetry aloud, to hear from Iranian voices, to sit with grief and beauty together rather than alone. We work with political and moral vocabulary shaped by Iranian thinkers such as Ali Shariati, who wrote against domination, spiritual emptiness, and the violence of imposed power. We make space for what doesn't fit into headlines or talking points—the complexity of empire, the difference between a government and its people, the authoritarian forces at work not only abroad but here at home. We also gather with the political inheritance of those who taught generations to resist domination and spiritual emptiness, including Ali Shariati. Guests Omid Safi is a scholar of the Islamic mystical tradition and professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University. He is the author of Memories of Muhammad and Radical Love: Teachings from the Islamic Mystical Tradition, and teaches online courses on Muslim mysticism. He leads contemplative journeys to Turkey, Morocco, and Mecca/Medina through Illuminated Courses. Fatemeh Keshavarz is the Roshan Institute Chair in Persian Language and Literature and Director of the Roshan Institute Center for Persian Studies at the University of Maryland. A poet in Persian and English, she is the author of Reading Mystical Lyric, Recite in the Name of the Red Rose, Jasmine and Stars: Reading More Than Lolita in Tehran, and Lyrics of Life: Sa'di on Love, Cosmopolitanism and Care of the Self. She has spoken at the UN General Assembly and received the Peabody Award for her NPR program on Rumi. Mays Imad, PhD (facilitator) is a neuroscientist, educator, and associate professor at Connecticut College whose work bridges neuroscience, philosophy, and education. What is “weaker” than trying to have a baby without ever entering into a physical relationship presumably necessary for procreation?Foundation Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:7b-9How can Agape Leaders serve you?   Please find us at:         Website:  http://www.agapeleaders.org/    LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregg-mays/      Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/agapeleaders.org      Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/agapeleaders10/ Bible Break With Agape Leaders: http://www.agapeleaders.org/daily-devotionTik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greggmays            YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCmM7ETR652mLtDSKSjda-pwGet Your Copy of the A Word Wednesday Devotion: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=A+Word+Wednesday+Devotion&ref=nav_bb_sbRead Dr. Mays' book Practical Leadership: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=practical+leadership+lessons+from+an+average+leader&crid=259U5RNS5J5W5&sprefix=Practical+Leadership%2Caps%2C102&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_4_20 Give to ALCFM: http://www.agapeleaders.org/store/p15/Agape_Leaders_Christian_Fellowship_Ministry_Support.html

Center solved: Cade Mays and the pocket math The Detroit Lions moved decisively at the spot that mattered most. Center was a top need. Cade Mays arrives as the prize of this free agency window and fits what this offense asks. He is better in pass pro than as a straight mauler. That matters for Jared Goff. Immediate interior pressure is what stresses this passing game. Mays lowers that risk and stabilizes the middle. His background adds value. In four years in Carolina, he worked under three different offensive coordinators with different blocking schemes. He played guard early, shifted responsibilities, and handled more read and react asks. He has not been asked to be aggressive while at center. Detroit can shape that. The contract tells the story too. Mays is the only multiyear signing so far. That signals starting center now and a long-term plan inside. Short-term bets and a long-term tell Elsewhere, the approach stayed disciplined. One-year deals fill immediate needs without anchoring the cap to older veterans. Avoidance of bad contracts is the point. Younger players with short-term upside get the nod over aging names signed for comfort. Expectations of a giant splash never made sense beyond center. Nothing they did, with the exception of Mays, should tilt the draft board. The front office cleared the road for April. Flexibility matters in the NFL. Detroit can target value and avoid reaching. The Detroit Lions Podcast framed it simply: stock the depth chart now, let the draft finish the job. Tackle depth, placeholders, and the next move Larry Borom arrived to be the swing tackle and a placeholder at left tackle while Decker is still out there. The number is modest, roughly in that $5 million range, and not a commitment. He is an upgrade over Giovanni Manu and over what Dan Skipper offered last year. Skipper is coaching now, which closes that loop. There is more depth in the pipeline. Horton has upside and is from Detroit. Juice Scruggs came in via the demo trade and profiles as another interior option. These are the kinds of layers that keep an NFL roster functional through camp and into October. One question remains open by design: is Borom better on the right or left? The Lions can let that play out while the draft provides another swing at tackle or interior help. The plan stays intact, and the board stays clean. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #cademays #startingcenter #passpro #interiorpressure #jaredgoff #blockingschemes #readandreactasks #playedguardearly #multiyearsigning #draftboardflexibility Learn more about your ad choices.
