The moment that changed an election. That's how Washington Examiner political reporter Salena Zito remembers the assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July. She was there when shots were fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, grazing the ear of the then-former President, critically injuring two men, and killing husband, father, and firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was hit while shielding his family from the gunfire. Although the Secret Service claims major changes have been made, questions about security failures persist. We spoke with Zito about her perspectives from that day, the months leading up to it, and her new book, “Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America's Heartland.” We often have to cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full conversation. Today on Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire interview with journalist Salena Zito on President Trump's comeback and his secret to winning over the Heartland in last year's election. Some say Trump won a second term one year ago today when his head was almost blown off on live television. Maybe that's true. Maybe it isn't. Luck was most certainly on his side that bright, beautiful day in Butler, Pennsylvania. I'd been looking forward to the rally because he was returning to a place made almost famous in MAGA lore by Tucker Carlson, who explained Trump's appeal better than anyone else ever had.So when Trump was almost assassinated, the first question I had was Why Butler? Even one year later, it seems odd that it happened there, especially since US intelligence already knew Trump's life was threatened, and outside in Butler, there were many rooftops, and many ways to climb on top of them. It wasn't secure, but then again, MAGA rallies seemed like the last place anyone would get away with shooting Trump. In September, another assassin would give it a shot, a burned-out Gen-X surfer dude who wanted to “save democracy.” But one year after Butler, it's as though the tragedy never happened at all. The Left never fully absorbed it and is awash in assassination porn every day, and the Right, well, let's just say there are many forces at work to break up the grassroots movement otherwise known as MAGA.Here is a look back at the good, the bad, and the ugly of this past year. The GoodOne year after Butler, Trump's presidency has been a smashing success when you look at everything he's accomplished, from the historic bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities to the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, to passing the One Big Beautiful Bill, and several key Supreme Court decisions in his favor. The tariffs seem to have worked out, and the economy is humming. One year after Butler, the Secret Service has been overhauled. They will continue to reform the agency, they say, to prevent something that catastrophic from happening again. One year after Butler, Corey Comperatore is remembered as a hero. He protected his family from gunfire. But to those he left behind, they don't feel like there has been enough closure on the case - how could they have left them unprotected? But on Saturday, the community came together to honor Corey with a motorcycle ride called Corey's Cruise:Corey's Cruise, that's the MAGA spirit. Paying tribute to one of their own.One year after Butler, journalist Selena Zito published the definitive account of that day. A Pennsylvania native, Zito captures Butler and cares enough about the place and its people to tell the story of its history and why it mattered that Trump came to Butler at all. He's the only sitting president ever to do so, she says. Zito has seen Trump in a way no other mainstream journalist ever has, and even tops Tucker Carlson, I think, in explaining Trump and his appeal. Maybe because she knows the time and place of which she writes, or maybe it's something else, an ability to see what other people can't. One year after Butler, it has been promises made and promises kept for people like me. I voted for Trump for two reasons. To protest the unprecedented, authoritarian lawfare by Joe Biden and the Democrats and to put an end to the gender madness that was destroying the minds and bodies of children. It is still hard for me to believe this is going on in America with no guardians on the Left to protect kids. When I see videos like this, I am reminded of why I voted for Trump and why I would vote for him a thousand times over:One year after Butler, the Trump administration is going after John Brennan and James Comey for Russiagate:Matt Taibbi has been on the story for years and goes into it at length on America This Week. The BadOne year after Butler, Elon Musk, who said he became a Trump supporter that day, is now a Trump hater, someone so filled with rage and resentment that he started his own political party just to hurt Trump. And said on Twitter that Trump is in the Epstein Files, which put the whole ugly scandal into motion. The truth? Musk was likely burned after Trump shut him out of the inner circle. The richest man in the world might be among the most fragile, and hell hath no fury like an Elon scorned.Tucker Carlson is parting ways with the Trump administration because of Iran and Israel, now proclaiming Israel is the one behind the Epstein cover-up. He's also saying, in his recent speech for Turning Point, that it's no big deal to kick biological men out of women's sports. Who cares? One year after Butler, fair weather MAGA like Andrew Schultz, Theo Von, and Joe Rogan aren't ride or die Trump supporters anymore. They chose him at the time as the better option, but if Trump doesn't give them exactly what they want — not fund Ukraine, wash their hands of Israel, or reduce the government deficit, whatever it is, they're free agents now ripe for the picking. One year after Butler, a war has broken out between the head of the FBI, Dan Bongino, and Attorney General Pam Bondi over the promised release of the Epstein Files. MAGA wants Bondi to be fired or to step down because of it. She made it seem like there was a client list and they would be naming names. But then abruptly announced that no, there isn't one and case closed. So Trump has had to take to Truth Social to defend her and try to steady the ship, but more and more people are reading this like a cover-up. In other words, MAGA is leading a Watergate-like situation to take down its own leader. into its own leader, doing the Democrats' dirty work without even trying:Both the Left and the Never Trumpers are using the Epstein case in hopes of dividing and conquering MAGA. And from the looks of it, they're winning. It reminds me of that song from U2, So Cruel, “I gave you everything you ever wanted, it wasn't what you wanted.”Even though the Democrats had the files all through Biden's presidency, they are counting on people being stupid enough to believe them when they pretend to care:The UglyOne year after Butler, almost no one cares about the shooter, Thomas Crooks. He is a ghost. If Thomas Crooks had succeeded, would he have been made a hero like Luigi Mangione? Is that what he was seeking, that kind of adulation and respect? He was not only a nobody, a loner, but like so many others, spent his formative years on lockdown, online. Who knows who got to him?One year later, the lesson was not learned because the tragedy was never fully absorbed. All they knew was that they were angry the shooter missed. We have to assume that, yes, Crooks would have been remembered well if he hadn't. Instead, he was shot and killed in the blazing sun on a rooftop at just 20 years old. One year after Butler, comments like this are not just accepted but encouraged. Nothing has changed for the Democrats and the Left; their propaganda press and the so-called “resistance” have not done a single thing differently after their defeat. They didn't absorb what happened on their side, the debate, the cognitive decline, the George Clooney op-ed, and Kamala Harris' terrible campaign. If anything, they've become even more emboldened to amplify their hate against Trump, as if they never saw him shot at all, as if they didn't just suffer the greatest political humiliation in modern American history. But they did. We were there. We saw. All it's meant to them, one year after Butler, is that they have to wish harder for Trump's demise. They have to get louder and meaner. One year after Butler and the Left still have no power except for one Democratic Socialist on the rise, who is leading them even further into fanaticism. The day I called Trump “My President”If I'd never left the Doomsday Bunker and found my way to watching a MAGA rally, I'd have never humanized Trump either. I, too, might have said about both of these attempted assassinations, “Too bad he missed.” But I did escape. I had to leave when the hatred I was engaging in made me feel sick. I knew I had to do something to understand better why we were on one side and they were on the other, and why we felt it was okay to treat half the country like human garbage. At first, the MAGA rallies were like homework. I was looking for the smoking gun. Was Trump really Hitler? Was he a bigot and a racist? No. He was just someone who didn't follow our strict rules of language, which had become so rigid that we didn't even know what basic words meant anymore, like man and woman. Over time, the rallies became, for me, the one bright spot amid a long, miserable, dark winter. They were celebrations with happy people. None of them judged each other. All of them were part of an America that people like me had abandoned long ago. Finding my humanity in 2020 would change the course of my life, something I could never have predicted would hit me in middle age. All I knew was that I had to do what I thought was the right thing, and humanizing my enemies was it. So, of course, I was watching Trump's rally in Butler. I wouldn't miss it. When I saw Trump was shot, I said, “Please, God, not my president.” My president. I didn't vote for him in 2020, so how could he be my president? And besides, he hadn't even won yet.I can't really explain it except to say that by then, I knew the forces that had been marshaled to remove Trump from power by any means necessary, and there were only a few months left before it was too late for them. Would they really go this far? Could they? Would it have been like shooting fish in a barrel to find vulnerable people who might want to make something of their miserable lives by becoming famous for taking out Public Enemy Number One?I guess it's as Rupert Pupkin says in The King of Comedy, “better King for a day than schmuck for a lifetime.”One year after Butler, we'll never know the answer to that. If there ever was any evidence, it's long gone by now. It could just be that lockdowns caused real harm to the minds of the young, especially young men, and no one has bothered to look into it.One year after Butler, I know I made the right choice when I voted for Trump. I'll be forever grateful to him for rescuing this country and its children from the clutches of fanaticism. And you can't watch as many rallies as I have and come away not liking the guy. Those still awash in rage and delusion might find, decades from now, that they missed out on one of the most spectacular moments in American history when this country elected one of its brightest lights. // This is a public episode. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Tuesday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Supply and Demand is a Real Thing President Trump's cabinet meeting addresses a range of topics, including the devastating Texas floods, economic developments, and border security. The hosts highlight the Trump administration’s claim that tariffs have generated over $100 billion in revenue, with projections of $300 billion more, challenging mainstream narratives about inflation and price hikes. The discussion transitions into immigration enforcement, spotlighting Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s opposition to ICE operations in MacArthur Park. Clay and Buck critique sanctuary city policies and explore the broader economic impact of illegal immigration on housing costs, emergency room usage, and labor markets. They argue that removing illegal immigrants could lower rent prices and reduce strain on public services, reinforcing conservative immigration stances. Salena Zito Recalls Butler Journalist Salena Zito joins the show to discuss her new book, "Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America’s Heartland." Zito recounts her firsthand experience at the rally where Trump was shot in the ear, describing the chaos, the president’s resolve, and the symbolic power of his raised fist. She reflects on how the event transformed Trump’s sense of purpose and galvanized support across the political spectrum. The hosts predict that Trump’s reaction in Butler will become an iconic moment in American history, likening it to Lincoln at Gettysburg. Energy Secretary Chris Wright Fresh out of President Trump's cabinet meeting, Energy Secretary Chris Wright joins the show to outline the Trump administration’s “Make Energy Great Again” (MEGA) strategy. This includes ending half a trillion dollars in federal subsidies for wind, solar, and electric vehicles, which Wright argues have destabilized the power grid and driven up electricity costs. He emphasizes a return to fossil fuel production on federal lands, streamlined permitting, and targeted tax credits for next-generation nuclear, geothermal, and hydroelectric technologies. The conversation shifts to the affordability of gasoline, with Wright noting a 25–30 cent per gallon drop in prices over the past year despite global instability. He attributes this to increased domestic production and a shift in Middle East dynamics, particularly regarding Iran. The hosts and Wright also explore the urgent need for massive energy infrastructure expansion to meet the exponential power demands of AI technologies, warning of a looming 200-gigawatt shortfall if current coal plant closures proceed without adequate replacement. Cosmetic Theater The inefficiencies of TSA airport security, celebrating the end of the shoe-removal requirement and sharing personal anecdotes about pre-check lines and airport design. Airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Las Vegas are criticized for poor layout and outdated facilities, while LaGuardia, Nashville, and Salt Lake City receive praise for recent improvements.

What if Anthony Michael Hall wasn't the face of 1980s teen angst? What if instead of starring in The Breakfast Club, he was flipping omelets at a diner or selling insurance in suburban Chicago? This week on Celebrity Jobber with Jeff Zito, we dive into the alternate reality of one of the most recognizable faces from John Hughes’ iconic coming-of-age films. Anthony Michael Hall — the original “geek” who made awkward cool — joins Jeff to talk about what could have been if Hollywood hadn’t come calling. Hall shot to fame with a string of unforgettable roles in Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, and The Breakfast Club, becoming the go-to actor for every lovable outsider in 80s cinema. But he wasn’t just a teen dream. He broke molds again by becoming the youngest cast member ever on Saturday Night Live at just 17 years old — a bold move that showed his comedic range and fearless ambition. Over the years, Hall has shed the high school persona and proven his versatility in serious roles — from the gritty The Dead Zone to portraying Whitey Ford in 61 and even embodying a cold-hearted villain in The Dark Knight. But despite the evolution, one question remains: What job would Anthony Michael Hall be doing today if he never got that lucky break? Many stars have walked a thin line between fame and flipping burgers. Remember Kanye West’s stint at The Gap? Or Brad Pitt sweating it out in a chicken suit for El Pollo Loco? Hall might’ve ended up a music producer, a writer, or even a motivational speaker — but one thing’s for sure: he never saw himself as just a jobber.

It's Friday, April 11th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 60 Christians slain in Nigerian genocide On April 2nd and 3rd, Fulani Muslim terrorists killed more than 60 Christians in Plateau State, Nigeria in what the governor called a “genocide,” reports The Christian Post. Maren Aradong, a community leader, said the attacks were carried out against seven Christian communities in Bokkos County, including Hurti village, where more than 40 Christians were slain. He told Morning Star News, “More than 1,000 Christians were displaced [in Hurti] during the attacks, and 383 houses were destroyed by these bandits.” Pastor Ayuba Matawal, who ministers in the Bokkos area, added, “Many of these attacks result in mass burials. The sight of numerous corpses and the frequent need to conduct mass burials is something no minister wishes to experience, yet it has become our reality.” Matthew 25:41 describes the final punishment of these evil murderers. Jesus will say to those on His left, “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” According to Open Doors, Nigeria is the seventh most dangerous country worldwide for Christians. Supreme Court rules Trump must bring El Salvadoran back to U.S. On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a judge's order requiring the Trump administration to facilitate the return to the United States of a Salvadoran man whom the government has acknowledged was deported in error to El Salvador, reports NewsNation. On April 4th, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, an Obama appointee, issued an order that the White House “facilitate and effectuate” the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, in response to a lawsuit filed by the man's family challenging the legality of his deportation. What Trump thought during Butler assassination attempt On July 13, 2024, we all know that candidate Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania at a campaign rally. We know the shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks who fired eight rounds from an AR-15 style rifle from the rooftop of a nearby building. If Trump had not turned at the moment he did to reference a power point slide on the screen, he would have been killed instantly. Instead, in God's providence, one of the bullets only nicked his upper right ear. Salena Zito, a Washington Examiner reporter, wrote a forthcoming book, entitled Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America's Heartland. She said, “I was just feet away the day history was nearly changed. My book dives into what happened, my conversations with Trump and how deeply it changed him.” Appearing on The Glenn Beck Program, Zito shared some information that was previously unknown. ZITO: “Before he said, ‘Fight, fight, fight,' I could see him. He says, ‘USA!' twice. He's still on the ground. And then I see him turn and get up and say, ‘Fight, fight, fight.'” BECK: “Wow!” ZITO: “And so we talked about that, and I said, ‘Why?' And he said, ‘Well, Salena, at that moment, I wasn't Donald Trump, even though I wasn't president yet again, I had once been President. “I had an obligation to show that the country is strong, that we will not be defeated, and that we are resolute. I did not want to be the symbol of America being weak." BECK: “Geez! That is in you. That is either in you or not in you. And it's in very few people!” White House cancels Social Security numbers of illegals The Trump administration is using a new tool to motivate illegals to “self-deport.” Their Social Security numbers have been effectively cancelled, reports The New York Times. The goal is to cut those people off from using crucial financial services like bank accounts and credit cards, along with their access to government benefits. In essence, the Trump administration is repurposing Social Security's “death master file.” For years, Social Security tracked dead people. Now, they want to include the names of living people whom the government believes should be treated as if they are dead. Being blacklisted in this manner would make it difficult to make money, and thus prompt the illegals to self deport. The initial names are limited to people the administration says are illegals who are convicted criminals and “suspected terrorists.” But officials said the effort could broaden to include other illegals as well. New York City tourist helicopter crashes into Hudson River A tourist helicopter, carrying family members from Spain, plunged into the Hudson River in New York City at 3:17pm Thursday, killing six, including three children, reports ABC News. WITNESS 1: “It sounded like a sonic boom on my right. So, I look up and literally, I see a helicopter splitting in two, with the rotor flying off in the sky. It was going so fast it just went straight into the water.” Agustin Escobar, an executive, his wife, Merce, and their children -- aged 4, 5, and 11 years old -- were killed in the crash along with the pilot, aged 36. The helicopter crashed just over 15 minutes after it departed from the Wall Street Heliport. The helicopter reached the George Washington Bridge before turning south and crashing. The 21-year-old helicopter, which simply broke apart over the Hudson, was on its sixth flight carrying tourists for the day. Please pray that God would comfort the grieving families of the pilot and the Spanish family on holiday. Texas whistleblower testifies about horrors of ‘transitioning' children And finally, Dr. Eithan Haim, who exposed pro-transgender malpractice at Texas Children's Hospital, testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday on what exactly he witnessed.  He shared harrowing detail about the mutilation of these gender-confused children, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Listen. HAIM: “I understand and have seen the effects of what these blockers do, what these hormones do, and what these surgeries do. They are destroying the lives of these children. “They are putting them down a road where they become a chronic medical patient that they can never come back from, especially the surgical complications. I see these things all the time. So, could I call myself a doctor if I didn't speak up against it?” Proverbs 21:3 states, "To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” In 2023, Manhattan Institute journalist Christopher Rufo interviewed a then-anonymous former Texas Children's Hospital employee who said the hospital's pro-transgender activist, Dr. Richard Roberts, did not hesitate to prescribe cross-sex hormones and mastectomies to gender-confused children whose medical records indicated “serious mental health issues” including autism. That whistleblower, later revealed to be  Dr. Eithan Haim, who just testified Wednesday, was indicted by the Biden Department of Justice, ostensibly for sharing confidential patient records in violation of HIPPA or the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. However, Dr. Haim had taken great pains to preserve patients' anonymity. Under Biden, Dr. Haim faced up to 10 years in prison! Thankfully, the case was dismissed soon after President Donald Trump took office in January 2025. Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, April 11th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Clay's useful law degree A significant portion of the hour is dedicated to discussing Trump's legal victories, including recent Supreme Court rulings that support his executive authority. The hosts highlight the challenges posed by federal district court judges who attempt to block Trump's actions, framing these legal battles as part of the broader resistance against his administration. The conversation also touches on the Supreme Court's decision regarding the Alien Enemies Act deportations, reinforcing Trump's ability to enforce his policies despite judicial opposition. The hosts argue that these legal victories demonstrate Trump's adherence to constitutional principles, contrary to the portrayal of him as authoritarian by his critics. Dire wolf comeback? The show features an intriguing discussion about the resurrection of the Dire wolf using DNA technology, drawing parallels to the concept of bringing back extinct species as depicted in Jurassic Park. The hosts debate the ethical and practical implications of reintroducing extinct animals, considering the potential risks and benefits. Salena Zito on America First Journalist Selena Zito provides insights into the Midwestern manufacturing sector and the impact of Trump's policies on local communities and America First.  We had a great time talking with Lauren about music as the constant in her life, wearing every single hat as a working musician, and females with huge voices who don't hold back (likeLauren!). We also geek out over arts and crafts!    This soulful rocker, originally from Chicago, has had a passion for singing throughout her entirelife. Growing up in a household that was rich in music, her influences were widely varied from artists such as Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt, The Pointer Sisters, Eva Cassidy, Etta James, Joss Stone, Kelly Clarkson, and many more.   Despite these modern musical influences, Lauren was classically trained throughout most of her early life. She began classical piano lessons at the age of 8, was an active member of several choirs and began taking classical voice lessons when she began high school. She eventually took her love of singing to the Quad Cities and obtained a Bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on voice at Augustana College. During her college years she spent a summer living inNovafeltria, Italy, learning the language and touring and studying opera. Initially she planned on becoming an opera singer, but quickly realized that rock and soul music were more her style.    Since moving to Nashville, Lauren has continued to tour and release new music. Her album, “Love on the Rocks” that was released in the summer of 2021 debuted at #14 on the BillboardBlues Chart, #4 on Roots Music Report & #21 on the NACC Blues Charts. Anderson has opened for bands such as Beth Hart, Ana Popovic and Mike Zito. Zito was also a featured artist on her sophomore album, on the tune "Back to Chicago". She just released her third full-length album, “Burn it all Down”, which features Albert Castiglia on the track “Zombie Blues” and JohnSalaway on “Hit The Spot.”   Check her out here:  Website: laurenandersonmusic.com  IG: laurenandersonmusic  FB: Lauren Anderson
