However, I think this mindset comes from a more positive place than expected. I hope this mindset and the reasons why we talk about this idea make sense. In today's PEP talk, I follow up my last episode with things that I did not learn as a collegiate athlete. For those listening, my goal is for you to be a better collegiate athlete than I was. While I learned a great deal of things as a college athlete, I think there were some things that were missing from what I expected to learn during that time in my life. While I understood some of these topics on a surface level, the depth of what I was looking for didn't satisfy me. Regardless, this episode is shared with the intention of expressing personal experiences, sharing some lessons, and meant with positive intent to prepare athletes better than I was prepared. Hopefully, this episode will provide guidance, promote better preparedness and share something productive. In today's PEP Talk I discuss my perspective on how I understand what champions' thought processes are. I know this is a very broad topic, but I did my best to compile 10 specific things that champions actively think about and how they strive for success. I would love to expand more on this in the future, but for now, I think today's discussion was solid. Thank you for supporting my journey with this podcast and with my pursuit of excellence every day. I appreciate you supporting this very ramble-y PEP Talk. PEP Talk #10 is all about making mistakes and forgiveness for those mistakes. Whether you made a mistake that involved someone else or someone else made a mistake that hurt you, I hope you learn the importance of processing that mistake, learning from it and forgiving yourself and the other person for what happened. Learning from mistakes takes time and it isn't fun, but it is a necessary part of sports and life. Mistakes are important and shape us into growing up to become the best version of ourselves, but that process requires deep introspection and maturity. I hope this episode helps you understand more about the value of mistakes and forgiveness in the pursuit of excellence. I have gotten to learn directly how important and helpful practicing gratitude is and I hope that it brings you the same joy and success that it has brought me. The athletes I have talked to have also seen the benefits of practicing gratitude as well. I believe that in order to pursue excellence, we must be grateful first. Hi y'all! Todays PEP Talk is all about some of my previous injuries, how I overcame them, and what I learned in the process of overcoming them. Injuries happen to pretty much every athlete- it's an unfortunate part of the process. While I don't wish any injury on anyone, being more prepared for them mentally and physically is such an advantage when it comes to personal growth and improving your mental game. Like a broken bone becomes stronger after it is healed, same goes for our mental game when we overcome an injury. While injuries aren't fun, they are definitely opportunities to grow and learn from. Hopefully our discussion regarding injury assists someone out there in hopes of pursuing excellence. Hey y'all, with everything going on in our world, I wanted to talk about why sports are so integral to our world, our American culture, and simply as a part of the human experience. Sports have taught me so much both as an athlete and a Mental Performance Coach, so I wanted to talk about the value that athletics bring to every one of us. No matter your level of exposure or experience with sports, I'm sure we can all learn something from the sports world. I hope that when all of this is over that we can reunite by continuing to support our athletes throughout their journey. Keep working hard, support your athlete friends and keep pursuing excellence during this difficult time! Today on the PEP, I want to talk about what you can do on the days where you really don't want to get out of bed. This week on the PEP, I wanted to talk about my thoughts and mindset regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak affecting the sport world. Specifically, I refer mostly to the NCAA and USAG event cancellations (and temporary suspension). To all the athletes who have lost their season and are dealing with high levels of uncertainty, I am here for you and I am so sorry you have to deal with this. However, I believe in the power of mental toughness, positivity, faith and community during crises such as this one. I hope this episode brings something positive. *This episode was originally recorded on 3/12/2020 and some events beyond that date have changed or will change with time and more information coming out. This week on the PEP, I wanted to talk about one of the first questions I ask each of my athletes: "What is your sport story?" This question is important when it comes to not only getting to know my athletes, but it also allows for the athletes to reflect upon their past and present situation. I dive a little bit into my own "sport story" in order to explain a little more casually not only about my athletic experience and where I am today, but I aim to provide insight into how you have the power to write your own "sport story" or even "life story." After recording this, I realize that I left out a lot of details that are relevant to my sport story, so if you'd like me to talk about even more in future episodes, let me know. Welcome to episode #1! In this episode I answer 20 questions that I picked from various "get to know me tag" websites, plus a bonus question that I have always wanted to talk about at the very end. My goal with this episode is to introduce myself in a casual way in order for you to get to know me a little better before getting into more serious topics and future episode content. Enjoy!
