Today I'm sharing some recent big mistakes I've made, and one of them I've made more than once. While frustrating and costly, these blunders highlighted my progress in dealing with shame. Instead of harsh self-criticism, I experienced guilt, frustration, and a greater sense of self-compassion, acknowledging my high mental load and rushing. This allowed me to learn valuable lessons about slowing down and double-checking. Unlike shame, which hinders growth and ownership, compassion helps us move forward. Tune in to see how you can relate, and start giving yourself some more compassion when you make mistakes, too! When I began fostering, I felt like I had prepared as much as any human possibly could. I read all the books. I watched the webinars. I went to the trainings. I talked to seasoned foster parents. I even practiced “holding space” for imaginary scenarios in my head. I was ready—or so I thought. But no amount of preparation can fully equip you for the lived experience of foster parenting, especially in that first raw, vulnerable year. Now, years later, as a therapist who supports foster and adoptive moms, I can look back on that time with a bit more grace. I see the mistakes I made—not with shame—but with curiosity and compassion. Because those missteps were also my greatest teachers. Here are the biggest mistakes I made in my first year of fostering—and the lessons they taught me. In this episode of the Wellness Diaries podcast, host Ashleigh Hubbard shares her personal journey and insights on navigating nutrition and mindset during the holiday season.  She discusses three practices she has decided to abandon: tracking macros or bringing her own food to events, over-exercising to burn calories, and under-eating to save calories for holiday meals.  Ashleigh emphasizes the importance of enjoying the holidays without stress or guilt related to food, focusing instead on connection and being present with loved ones. She encourages listeners to adopt a healthier, more compassionate approach to eating during the festive season.   Things discussed:  Personal experiences with nutrition and mindset during the holiday season Abandoning the practice of tracking macros or bringing personal food to gatherings The impact of food restrictions on enjoyment and connection during holidays Avoiding over-exercising as a means to compensate for holiday meals The importance of viewing exercise as a source of joy rather than a punishment The negative effects of under-eating to save calories for holiday meals Maintaining balanced meals throughout the day for better energy and mood Emphasizing connection and presence with loved ones over food focus Encouraging self-compassion and reflection on eating habits during the holidays Creating a positive and fulfilling holiday atmosphere by prioritizing relationships over strict dietary rules   Book a consult call: https://calendly.com/ahubnutrition/strategycall?month=2024-11   FREEBIES & COACHING Overcome Emotional Eating Guide: https://ahubnutrition.myflodesk.com/x9y29daqts?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1X6TbHltyHFKymLHwwfzSxbdntKn8Y-1YnneKO0daE_Wbwdbr_RN8wCWk_aem_1_7btfhpIlESNQUmM6gNtw No Brainer Fat Loss Checklist: https://ahubnutrition.myflodesk.com/fatlosschecklist 1:1 Coaching Application: https://www.ahubnutrition.com/coachingapplication Join the email list: https://ahubnutrition.myflodesk.com/x8208kqszl FIND ME ON IG: https://www.instagram.com/ashleighmariehubbard/  IG: https://www.instagram.com/ahubnutrition/  IG: https://www.instagram.com/thewellnessdiariespodcast/

Hey there, it's Alex Coffman, host of The Real enTREpreneur™ Podcast! In this episode, I'm getting real about the biggest mistakes I made in my early real estate investing days. Trust me, there were a few. I dive into the lessons I've learned about the importance of thinking big and why focusing on larger deals can make all the difference in achieving long-term success. I share my journey from smaller investments—like houses, duplexes, and quadplexes—that seemed like good deals at the time but didn't contribute much to my overall goals. These smaller properties often came with high management costs, poor cash flow, and less favorable debt terms, making them harder to manage and less profitable in the long run. I talk about how these experiences taught me to prioritize bigger deals that offer better cash flow, appreciation, and scalability. I also emphasize the importance of having patience, discipline, and a clear strategy. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of closing deals, but without thorough analysis, you might find yourself in a tough spot later. Reflecting on the success of recent large-scale deals, I highlight how these investments have significantly outperformed the smaller deals I made over the past six years. From setting up the right team to taking advantage of tax benefits, larger deals have proven to be game-changers. If you're interested in learning from my mistakes and want to hear more about our latest investment opportunities with TR3 Capital, this episode is for you. Let's talk about how you can avoid the pitfalls of small thinking and start focusing on the big picture. Learn more: https://tr3capital.com/

In episode 563, June Dick teaches us how to make the process of self-publishing a cookbook easy and efficient and how to avoid the mistakes she made. June is the recipe developer and photographer for her food blog, Practically Homemade. Here you will find simple recipes for everyday families inspired by years of being a restaurant owner, high school culinary teacher and mom of 4. Now as an empty nester, June is still looking for shortcut ingredients and kitchen hacks to save time in the kitchen. Her life mission is to share them with you so that you can have time back in your life to enjoy the little things. In this episode, you'll learn about what June thinks went really well during her self-publishing process, what she would do differently and how to get help from your audience to put a cookbook together. Key points discussed: - Plan ahead for a cookbook project: Think about the end product and work backwards to plan the steps, rather than jumping right into creating recipes. - Establish a consistent recipe format: Create a template for recipes to ensure consistency throughout the book. - Involve your audience: Reach out to your audience for recipe testing. This can provide valuable feedback and help build excitement for the book. - Consider outsourcing tasks: Outsource tasks that you don't enjoy doing (e.g. layout, photography, editing), to free up your time for the parts you enjoy. - Expect the unexpected: Be flexible as there might be unexpected changes you need to make. - Prioritize your blog: Plan ahead and schedule out your blog content so you can focus on your cookbook project without going into burnout. - Choose a topic you're passionate about: Select a topic you truly enjoy, as you'll be working on it for an extended period. - Be patient with the process: Self-publishing a cookbook takes longer than expected, so be be patient and persistent.
