I went to a museum in Shimane Prefecture called the Kano Art Museum. It's been a very long time since I've been to an art museum and it was my first visit in a year. The museum was small and displayed simple works, but it was very nice. The reason why I liked it so much was because I think it is very important to express oneself simply and to convey a message to others simply. And since I want to paint myself, I was motivated to do so. What surprises me every time I go to a museum is that not everyone necessarily has been painting since they were little. There are people who write pictures while working as teachers, and the author of The Star Prince was also an airplane pilot. This rainy season was very long. Not only was it long, but it also rained a lot. There was some flooding, but it is a miracle that no one was killed. However, there were some deaths in Shizuoka and a lot of damage in Sichuan, China. It is a shame that environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world, but I am thankful that we are able to live in peace every day. Recently, I started practicing the piano. I have always loved to sing, and when I was in high school, I used to go to karaoke every day. But I can't read music, and I can't play an instrument. Two years ago, I started drawing pictures. I thought I'd try something I'd never tried before. I started painting, which I was not good at and had no interest in. What I thought at that time was that if you think logically, you can always become good at it. I also thought it was very similar to learning a language in that if you enjoy practicing, you will improve. The same concept applies to the piano this time. I'm trying to think logically and enjoy it. In this way, I became somewhat proficient in a week. Yesterday, there was flooding in Shizuoka. In an area of Shizuoka called Atami, a river overflowed and swept away many people. The rain is still continuing and many people are still under investigation. In Shizuoka, there are many sightseeing spots such as Mount Fuji, Hakone and Izu. Fuji, Hakone, Izu, etc. My grandfather's house was in Hakone, so I have a lot of memories of Shizuoka. Not only Shizuoka, but many other places have experienced heavy rainfall in the past few years. Last year it was in Kyushu, and before that in Okayama and Hiroshima, etc. Every year there is flooding somewhere. Not only floods, but also typhoons and global warming seem to be having a bigger and bigger impact. We talked to teachers who are advisors on education in Japan. Nowadays, society is changing at a very fast pace. It's not just that remote work has increased at Corona, it's that you can't just do what you're told. You need to find your own issues and think for yourself. Society is changing in such a way, but the field of education has yet to catch up. It is still common for students to be taught the answers and memorize them. When I heard this story, I thought that studying Japanese is the same. Japanese language and language are a means to an end, so the goal is to use it to talk to people, travel, and have other experiences. However, I have the impression that people whose goal is to pass exams such as the JLPT or to learn Japanese are slow to improve. I think the important thing is to imagine what kind of experience you want to have using Japanese as a tool. -Phrases of the day- 1. ものすごいスピード/at a very fast pace 4. 上達が早い、上達が遅い/fast to learn, slow to learn

It is still the rainy season, but luckily it was sunny. The sea was very calm, no waves, and the water temperature was warm. There were a few other groups there. Our family brought a boat shaped like a flamingo. Since it was for children, there was a 40kg limit, so I couldn't ride it. My daughter seemed to enjoy the boat very much. In Japan, there is usually a day called "Umi-biraki" (opening of the sea), from which you can enter the sea. But for the past two years, due to the corona, there has been no official "opening of the sea" and we are responsible for making our own decisions. I've only ever been in the ocean in late July or August, so it was a very new experience for me. They are from the department that runs the campaign to increase the population and tourists in Matsue City. What we talked about was how to make people stay in a small city like Matsue and how to convey the charm of Matsue City. The population of Matsue City is decreasing remarkably, the number of children is decreasing, and the number of elderly people is increasing. So we talked about remote work and workation. Remote work is also sometimes referred to as telecommuting. Workcation means to work remotely while traveling. Matsue City has a lot of nature and the cost of living is very low, so I thought that they could work remotely and live a very fulfilling life while earning a city salary. That's what we talked about. However, I thought that the fundamental problem was the Japanese way of thinking about employment. In Japan, finding a job is very important, and everyone thinks that they need to have a "stable job". As a result, there are very few people who study abroad, start their own businesses, or take on the challenges of start-ups, which are popular in the US and Europe. Most people think that working for a big company is the right thing to do, and often even a second job is forbidden. This example is especially common in rural areas like Shimane, where most students think that they have to become a civil servant or a banker. In fact, the laws and systems in Japan are very well designed to limit the risk of taking on the challenge of startups and entrepreneurship, even if you fail. So I felt that Japan is a country where it is really easy to take on challenges, but the problem is that there are not many people who think it is okay to take on challenges. Through this podcast and the activities of Nihongo Mura, I also thought about taking on more challenges. How is it in your country? -Questions of the day- -Phrases of the day- 1.人口が減っている/the population is decreasing 2.就職する/to find a job 3. 公務員/a civil servant 4.銀行員/a banker

Last week, I was interviewed by Yusuke for his podcast on the theme of "Let's talk about what you like" to get to know each other better. What struck me during the interview was that Yusuke and I have a lot in common. Yusuke and I are both married, love nature, fishing, and cooking. When I was a salaryman at a Japanese company, there were very few people who wanted to work abroad, become YouTubers, or do a lot of housework. That made me think, "Am I weird? "Am I bad? "Is there no place for me? I often wondered. But now, when I post what I like on podcasts and Instagram, I can meet people who are just like me. Yesterday, I took a drive along the mountain roads of a place called Higashi Izumo. The days are long these days, and the sun sets around eight o'clock in the evening. I didn't know this, but fireflies lay eggs during the rainy season. I had an image that fireflies were seen during the summer vacation, so I was very surprised. The fireflies were so beautiful that my daughter seemed to be very happy to see them. When I lived in Tokyo, it was impossible to see fireflies, so I was very impressed, and I was glad to have moved to Shimane. -Questions of the day- 1.翔太は昨晩何を見に行きましたか?/What did Shota go to see last night?
