Even though we may talk about Kolsch Night all month long, it only happens on the third Tuesday of each month. This Tuesday happened to be said night, so this is a slightly shorter-than-normal show, but we still made sure we covered 5 pieces of content for you! Some of the things we chatted about before heading down to OTR were:  Producer Nick needs a yard pass. Julia's discomfort with videos and how that's all MadTree's fault this week. Overusing the "DISAPPOINTED" button. The Gnome and the Patriot Pack and how it was different than expected. Discussing if phone books still exist. Ziegler is in the tanks and Brittany is eyeing that 3rd Golden Gnome! Marco was right this whole time about the most recent version of Axis Mundi. More beers coming to Parks and Rec. Cincy Brew Dads busting out a tongue twister of an episode title. There was a pupper wandering around the background, so Julia got distracted by that and had to watch the episode twice to take accurate notes and counts. Were all their cheese curd facts...factual? Did Gnome use poisoned sugar cubes in his cocktail? Gnome talked some Half Truths. Someone on the internet is unhappy. Bret and Mike don't know if alcohol is good for you or not anymore. Billions of extra pints of alcohol will be drunk by 2 Brits during the World Cup. Irwin Simon is being brilliant again. ----- This episode covers the following shows : The Weekly Pint - Ep 318 - Get Out Of The Way! And we're passionate about it, too.If that introduction sounds both nonsensical and completely normal, then you're in the right place. Don't worry, we're also guilty. Becky Ellison and Kyle Davis are back to call all of us out, including themselves. From world-class delivery to holistic experience, they're unpacking the words that have been doing the heavy lifting in AEC marketing for so long that they've become tired and worn out.We dig into the phrases that have taken over proposals and websites, what we actually mean when we use them, and what to say instead. Because the selection committee just read 12 other submittals that said the exact same things. Here's the deal: your people and your firm actually are unique—so let's start writing like it.

Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, we dive deep into 2014 D&D 5e Bard from levels 1 through 4, breaking down how to build and optimize one of the most versatile classes in DnD. The Bard is explored not just as a performer, but as a true "jack of all trades" support class, capable of filling nearly any party role from face, to scout, to battlefield controller. Early-level Bard gameplay revolves around maximizing Charisma, leveraging Bardic Inspiration, and choosing the right skill proficiencies to complement party composition. Rather than trying to do everything yourself, the hosts stress the importance of intentional specialization within versatility: being broadly capable, but exceptional in key areas. We discuss how proper timing and resource management can dramatically influence combat, social encounters, and skill checks. Overusing limited resources can leave you to struggle when challenges arise. Spellcasting also takes center stage. As a full caster with limited spells known and limited ability to change them, the Bard requires careful spell selection. We highlight the importance of choosing spells that provide maximum flexibility and impact, especially control and support options rather than raw damage. Finally, the episode reinforces that while Bards can do almost anything, they are not front-line damage dealers or tanks. Much of their strength lies in adaptability, creativity, and enabling the rest of the party to succeed, making them one of the most strategically rewarding classes in early-level D&D play. Key Takeaways Jack of All Trades = Flexibility, Not Mediocrity Bards can fill nearly any role, but perform best when they specialize in a few key areas. This episode of The Consult Room tackles a topic that's quietly becoming one of the biggest ethical and environmental debates in veterinary medicine. For decades, routine parasite prevention has been seen as essential. Monthly flea treatments. Regular worming. Often given automatically, year after year. But growing evidence now suggests that some of the chemicals used to protect our pets are ending up far beyond the clinic - in rivers, waterways, and ecosystems. To explore what this means for pets, vets, and the planet, I'm joined by Andrew Prentis, a veterinary surgeon with nearly 40 years' experience across private practice, charity hospitals, and academia. Andrew is a Visiting Fellow at Imperial College London and a member of the PREPP group, producing rational evidence for parasiticide prescription. In this balanced, evidence-led conversation, we unpack how parasite treatments enter the environment, what the science actually shows, and why a more risk-based, individual approach to parasite control may be overdue. In This EpisodeHow flea and tick treatments end up in rivers and waterwaysWhat research shows about imidacloprid and fipronil contaminationThe environmental impact on insects, food chains, and biodiversityWhy “blanket prevention” became the norm in veterinary careThe difference between hazard-based and risk-based parasite treatmentCommercial pressures, pet health plans, and industry influencePractical alternatives and what responsible parasite control could look likeKey Takeaways

Why Overusing the Word "Friend" Can Hurt Autistic and ADHD Children

THE AUTISM ADHD PODCAST

We use the word friend all the time—at school, at home, on the playground. "Line up, friends." "We don't hit our friends." "That's my friend from work." It sounds warm and inclusive, and it's almost always said with good intentions. But for many autistic and ADHD children, language is taken literally. When we tell them everyone is their friend, they believe us. And then they expect those people to act like friends—to include them, play with them, and treat them kindly. When that doesn't happen, the confusion can turn into hurt, self-blame, anxiety, and even depression. In this episode, I break down why overusing the word friend can be especially harmful for neurodivergent children—and how it can unintentionally teach them to ignore their own experiences or accept mistreatment. I share real-life examples from classrooms, playgrounds, and therapy spaces, including what happens when a child asks, "Are you my friend?" and the answer doesn't match the actions. We'll talk about: *Why autistic and ADHD children often take friendship language literally *How some children are bullied through "pretend friendship." *Why teaching actions of a friend is more helpful than using labels *How to help children notice when friendship behaviors change and know who to go to for help *A simple visual circles model that teaches self-friendship, boundaries, and different levels of connection *Why we need to be cautious with questions like "Who's your best friend?" *How society's message that "more friends = more value" can deeply harm neurodivergent kids *And why being a good friend to yourself is just as important as having friends around you I also share examples from my own adult friendships to show that real friendship doesn't look one way—and that closeness, frequency, and intensity can all vary and still be meaningful. If you're a parent, educator, or mental health professional supporting autistic or ADHD children, this episode offers a compassionate reframe and practical language shifts that can reduce confusion, protect emotional safety, and support healthier relationships. Because being precise with our language doesn't make kids less kind—it makes them safer. And safety is where real connection begins.

Today, we're diving deep into the lesser-talked-about “shadowy side” of leadership. While leadership is often framed around positivity, strength, and values, there's a whole set of unseen influences—the parts of ourselves we'd rather not acknowledge—that shape the way we lead. Drawing on ideas from Freud, Carl Jung, and practical leadership coaching, we explore how ignoring our shadows can come back to bite us, why avoidance doesn't make our flaws disappear, and how self-awareness and ownership are crucial to sustainable, authentic leadership.[00:01:06] – The Concept of the Shadow in LeadershipExplanation that every leader has a “shadow”—the unseen, often uncomfortable parts of ourselves.Emphasis on being kind to oneself when exploring these difficult aspects.[00:02:01] – The Importance of Self-awarenessWhy it's easier to focus on strengths rather than shadows.References to psychological theories (Freud, Jung) and the idea of “unknown unknowns.”[00:03:07] – How Shadows Show UpExamples of how shadow traits manifest (avoiding conflict, craving approval, perfectionism).Emphasizing that these are not “bad,” but very human responses.[00:04:56] – Shadow Becomes Destructive When IgnoredThe dangers of blind spots and repressed traits.Examples from coaching practice: leaders are often rewarded for the “light” side and overlook the shadow. The impact of stress—how strengths can morph into their shadow side.[00:07:56] – Consequences of Denying the ShadowHow the shadow “leaks” out in behaviors like micromanagement, frustration, passive aggression, or withdrawal.Analogy: the shadow is like an invisible draft.[00:08:32] – Recognizing and Owning Our ShadowImportance of self-ownership—acknowledging both positive and negative sides. With self-awareness comes choice and the ability to change or set boundaries.[00:10:33] – Reflection Questions for ListenersPrompts to consider where their shadow might be impacting their leadership.Overusing strengths, avoiding issues, or emotionally outsourcing.Bringing your shadow side into awareness is about embracing your whole self. This self-ownership helps you make conscious choices, identify and fulfill your needs, and show up more authentically—at work and in life.If you're showing up in spaces not made for you—keep going. Should you translate everything for your English Language Learners?Overusing translation can actually slow down language acquisition and create over-dependence on students' first language. In this episode, Beth breaks down when translation becomes a barrier and when it can be a powerful support. You'll hear real classroom examples that show the difference — like how a moment of intentional translation helped a student feel included, and how translating every direction can overwhelm both students and teachers. She outlines key times when translation is essential — such as communicating with families, supporting newcomers emotionally, and helping students understand routines or vocabulary. You'll also learn how to support intermediate students who hit a learning plateau by using translation to build academic vocabulary and improve writing and speaking fluency.Beth shares practical ways to use translation across all four language domains — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — and emphasizes that translation should be used as a scaffold, not a crutch. This episode also highlights some of the most effective translation tools available today, including TalkingPoints, Microsoft Translator, SayHi, and more. You'll walk away with strategies that balance support and language growth — helping your students thrive in English while honoring their native language.Don't forget to grab your free chart linked below! Bible StudyDon't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: .Sermon NotesPT story: Overusing wrong muscles, learning what the right ones feel like.Spiritual parallel: Faith is our central muscle group.Often atrophied → we rely on self-reliance, control → strain.Goal: Learn what faith “feels like” and strengthen it.Faith grows in response to grace (10:19–22)Sequence: Grace → Faith.Grace = God's free kindness in Christ; Faith = saying “yes” to it.Ongoing: Grace sustains faith for life. When faith feels weak: Seek grace, not just “more faith.”Means of grace: Scripture, fellowship, worship, Communion, prayer.Faith sees that which is unseen (11:1)Assurance of future promises; conviction of present spiritual realities. Not irrational—like belief in love.Faith = “organ to see the invisible order” (F.F. Bruce).Example – Moses(11:26–27)A. In TemptationTurned from Egypt's visible wealth by looking to unseen reward in Christ.Application: Resist visible false promises (wealth, status, sex, control) by seeing greater unseen reward.B. In SufferingEndured Pharaoh's wrath by “seeing Him who is invisible.”Application: Fix eyes on unseen love, power, promises of God.Faith in suffering = visible witness to invisible grace.Discussion Questions:How would you define grace? What about faith? In Eph 2:8, Paul says we are saved by grace through faith. What does he mean? How are grace and faith linked?Give examples of something real that you can't see.Temptation and suffering are often the context in which faith is used and strengthened.  How so?In what way is someone's faith amid personal suffering a benefit to the whole community? Can you give examples of where you have seen this?Questions?Do you have a question about today's sermon? Email Randy Forrester ().

Obsessing on what other people think about you, say about you, did to you - or are doing to you to undermine you Telling yourself you'll never get X because Y happened - over and over - this is a message that will come true when you say it - you are the story you tell yourself Focus on the causes of your current troubles rather than the things that can solve problems. And what does the victor look like? Takes rabid responsibility for their part in their own troubles (John Bush on self reflection, Buying things with a credit card to satisfy the instant gratification monkey, Friend with a violent husband removing herself from access, etc.) Controls their reaction to bad things to make the best of it - but not in a fake toxic positivity way. (Macchu Picchu) Focuses on what they CAN control (this one hurts for a reforming political junkie) Sees obstacles as challenges rather than insurmountable roadblocks Gains self worth internally, not from the feedback of others (and therefore cares not what people say about them or if people are trying to undermine them) A victor will ask - how can I? A victim will say I can't. That is the biggest difference between the two. So how do you become a victor when you are stuck as a victim? Recognize where you are - that is the first step to owning your future Shift your mindset from being helpless to proactive, rabid responsibility Know what you cannot control, and embrace that you can control your reaction to it Kill the negative thoughts and paranoia and ask yourself - How can i? Forgive - forgive yourself, forgive those around you - but it is ok to NOT forget6. Set boundaries to keep yourself building your future rather than getting stuck in past, unhealthy cycles. That choice — to build forward instead of staying broken — is what changes everything. Make it a great week. GUYS!
