Izdevusi "Zvaigzne ABC". Welcome to "JAPANESE from SCRATCH with YUKO" Episode 1. I will talk about the outline of this podcast, discuss hobbies and what activities we like to do with our special guest!
Lesbian dating – specifically when a long-time out lesbian dates a newly out lesbian – is the topic of this week's episode, featuring guest conversationalist, Tonda McKay. In addition to being an award-winning photographer and community advocate, Tonda holds a very special role of distinction: she is wife to podcast host, Anne-Marie Zanzal! Tonda and Anne-Marie met just as Anne-Marie was beginning her coming out/divorce journey. In this engaging episode, Tonda and Anne-Marie talk about the benefits and challenges of the long-out/newly out dating dynamic, the hurdles they have overcome, and the rewards of perservering through what can sometimes be characterized as a difficult pairing of long-out/newly out lesbians. This is an episode that will be of great interest to anyone who is embarking on a dating journey later in life!Tonda McKay earned her bachelor's degree in photography at Middle Tennessee State University and has been a professional corporate photographer for over 35 years. She has worked for several Fortune 500 companies, including Philips/Magnavox and DESU, LLC. While working at Philips she received two ADDY awards, which recognizes and rewards the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. In 2001, her coffee table book, A City In Harmony, on Nashville was published. This was a two year collaborative project with the Nashville Chamber of Commerce. Tonda also won several national magazine awards (Best Cover - National Magazine Association) for her editorial work on Business Nashville and Nashville LifeStyle. While architectural photography (including Matterport 3D Imaging) and drone photography is her niche now, Tonda has worked in every imaginable area of photography, from jewelry, furniture, editorial & photojournalism. Tonda likes to say there isn't anything she hasn't done in photography and she still enjoys learning new processes and information. She has gone from shooting on an 8x10 view camera to HDR digital photography. She believes photography is ever changing and it is always a journey of learning and growth. When not photographing Tonda enjoys kayaking, travel, and of course scenic photography. To learn more about Tonda and her work as a photographer, visit https://tondamckay.com/A song that has special meaning to Tonda are 'She Keeps Me Warm' by Mary Lambert. https://youtu.be/NhqH-r7Xj0E?si=1c3fLiKIE5Rogo0TA book that has impacted Tonda and she recommends to others is 'Another Mother Tongue' by Judy Grahn. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/64767This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black military pilots in U.S. military service, operating between 1940 and 1946 as the 99th Pursuit Squadron. Despite earning an exemplary record while fighting the enemy abroad during World War II, these men faced racism and discrimination at home. Flying some 1,600 missions and destroying over 260 enemy aircraft, the Tuskegee Airmen helped lay the foundation for President Harry S. Truman's decision to desegregate the armed forces in 1948. Delaware State University (DSU) in Dover, DE, held a key position in developing the squadron that would become known as the Tuskegee Airmen. As U.S. involvement in WWII rose, DSU's aviation program was designated one of six historically black colleges and universities added to the government-sponsored Civilian Pilot Training Program. Some of DSU's student pilots became the first Black military flyers after training at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. While DSU's aviation program languished after WWII, it was restarted in 1987. Since then, the school's planes have been painted with red tails, which have become a symbol of the Tuskegee Airmen and the planes they flew in World War II. In this episode, which was recorded during Black History Month in February 2022, Chellie speaks with Lt. Col. (Ret) Michael Hales, DSU's Director of Aviation Programs. Lt. Col. Hales brings an insatiable passion for all things aviation and a bold strategic vision for the future of the program – which includes training a pipeline of pilots and aviation professionals of color. I have no idea why I sound like a man suffering from a hangover in this episode, but I do. I don't even drink! Anyway, apology #2 goes out for forgetting to mention that Richard Hughes wrote Herbie under yet another pen name: Shane O'Shea. If you popped open a Herbie book and saw the byline under O'Shea and wondered why I kept on talking about some guy named Hughes, that's why! Oops!Let's talk about some sources, shall we? As always for some older material, I turned first to TwoMorrows Publishing to see if they had anything on the subject. They did! Their magazine, Alter Ego, ran a whole friggin book on ACG with good info on both of Herbie's creators. Let's list the relevant issues here:Alter Ego (TwoMorrows Publishing): 61, 112Su and I also found some neato resources online, including one particular Herbie fan page that was nice.https://herbiepopnecker.com/https://herbiepopnecker.com/docs/1989-PopneckerPapers.pdfhttps://myanimelist.net/people/21083/Nami_Sanohttps://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2016-09-07/nami-sano-author-of-havent-you-heard-im-sakamoto/.106181https://peoplepill.com/people/nami-satoThe comics we read:Forbidden Worlds: 73, 94, 110, 114, 116Herbie: 1-23Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto (Seven Seas Entertainment): 1-4Su tells me that if you head over to Crunchyroll, you'll still be able to see the Sakamoto anime. It may also have the manga still up. You never know! Check it out!As for Herbie, I found the comics up on some sites dedicated to public domain works. I won't link to the them, but some simple searching can find it for you. Happy readings!
