Her approach to health goes DEEP. I mean really digging through bloodwork of her patients with a fine tooth comb. From there, she utilizes Enzyme Therapy, Nutritional guidance, and holistic treatment to help address the underlying causes of disease. On this Episode of The Movement Underground Radio, I took a commentary from an IG Live video on a controversial fitness and rehab topic and where I stand on it. The dreaded “Your [muscle] doesn't fire”. I approach this through a few lenses…the Biomecanical, Neurological, and psychosocial… and outline why its not a great idea to coach this way…and the fallacy that simplification is easier to understand by your clients. Hoping to engage in some good conversation on the topic!

In the Health and Rehab industry, a huge movement in recent years is the idea of Evidence Based Practice. As a result, small contingencies in the rehab world have begun to refute the efficacy of manual therapies in rehab, claiming that the evidence does not support its use. There is no one in the rehab space that reads more research than Dr. Brookbush and his team, who founded the Brookbush Institute with the goal to be a leader in evidence driven continuing education. In this episode, we go deep into this idea of evidence based practice, and how manual therapies are amongst the most supported therapeutic tactics we have in rehab, and how "pain science zealots" as he says, are mis interpreting cherry picked studies to refute the practice to the detriment of patients worldwide. So if you are a clinician who feels attacked on social media for performing manual techniques, then this episode is for you!!!!!

    2009 Gator Legends: The Reunion

On this episode of The Movement Underground Radio, I was able to put together a reunion of athletes from my days working as an Athletic Trainer for the Florida Gators Track & Field program. There were so many unbelievable athletes on that team, but these guys in particular made a huge impact on my life and career. Christian Taylor, who needs no introduction in the track world, is a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist in the Triple Jump, and a 4x World Champion Kenal Mesic, a Bosnian born athlete, who has also competed in the Olympics, came to the USA for the first time to be a part of the Gator Track team, had to learn english, & adapt to American college life, after a war torn childhood. Gray Horn, the dark horse Gator Decathlete great, an SEC Champion, and currently coaches Track at Wake Forest University. Ben Davies, who competed for one year at Florida, in the Decathlon/Javelin before injuries forced him to transfer, and is now an actor. Jarius Cooper, was a Sprinter/Hurdler at UF who had to overcome some difficult injuries and is now the sprints/hurdles coach at Stanford University. And last, but not least, Will Wynne, a 400m hurdler, who still competes in track, and gave me his 2010 National Championship Ring, and was the inspiration for this podcast episode. Athletic accomplishments aside, these guys live all over the country/world, and took the time to get together with me after over a decade to rehash the glory, defeats, life lessons, and how they inspired a winning culture at Florida Track & Field, a legacy intact to this very day. I don't care if not a single soul listens to this, but the opportunity to reconnect with these athletes, who were perhaps my greatest teachers clinically, is something that I am extremely grateful for. Hope you enjoy!

In a Telehealth world, making connections is an ever important skill set that all relevant clinicians now need. With limited physical contact, how can we establish trust, rapport, and deliver the results we promise with a limited toolbox? Dr. Joe Lavacca, Physical Therapist, Movement Coach and RockTape Instructor, lays out the science behind “soft skills” and reveals how this paradigm shift may be for the better, by forcing us to recognize there is more than just a body to every human being we interact with. This conversation goes far beyond how to stay relevant in Telehealth, and calls into question many of the tactics we've been led to believe in terms of patient care. The lessons shared, however, have much more far reaching implications to anyone who wants to improve the way they communicate and interact with others no matter what the context of the relationship.
