Math Is Wonderful by Fred Hardwicke, MDMy life has found mathematics a subject with numerous areas open for exploration. The chapter titles are the areas covered - primes, Pythagoras, progressions, parabolas, polygons, and probabilities. There are so many discoveries hard to find elsewhere that it might indeed be called the "math road less traveled." In the book there is an abundance of numerical connections to history, astronomy, biology, chemistry, music, my life, and the Bible. The chapter on parabolas is absolutely amazing, with such concepts as the Seven Great Numbers, Highway 46, spiral staircases to infinity, the Triple Jump, Silver and Golden and Platinum Elevators, and binary stars - all in numbers. Mathematics is presented as a subject of great beauty and wonder.Fred Hardwicke taught medicine, hematology, oncology, and a little bit of math for 21 years in Lubbock, Texas at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He re-ceived the Internal Medicine Teacher of the Year Award in 2004. He currently lives with his wife, Beth, in Childress, Texas.https://www.amazon.com/dp/1963068440?ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_J081J6KC19SEEDSREV6E_1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_J081J6KC19SEEDSREV6E_1&social_share=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_J081J6KC19SEEDSREV6E_1&skipTwisterOG=2https://www.fredhardwicke.com/http://www.ParchmentGlobalPublishing.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/81524fhpar.mp3

At the 2024 European Athletics Championships, we arguably saw the greatest Triple Jump competition in history. Jordan Diaz Fortun of Spain and Pedro Pichardo of Portugal went jump for jump fighting until the 6th round for the Gold Medal. Diaz Fortun came out on top with a mark of 18.18m, moving him to no.3 on the all-time list. Pichardo jumped 18.04m, which was just the 2nd time in history someone jumped 18m and did not win a competition. With the dust still settling on a legendary competition out in Rome, the question remains, was this the greatest triple jump competition in history? Today, I breakdown the European Championship Triple Jump final round by round, as well as take a look back at the history of the triple jump and some other high quality competitions we have seen over the past few decades. The 2024 Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica produced some electric performances on the track and in the field. The most notable of which turned out to be the Men's 100m Dash where Oblique Seville took down reining World Champion Noah Lyles, running a PB of 9.82 seconds, the fastest time by a Jamaican since Usain Bolt's 9.81 in 2016. Seville has finished 4th place in the 100m at the last two World Championships, but with this performance, is now looking to turn the tides and capture an Olympic medal in Paris this summer. Today I breakdown the highlights from the Racers Grand Prix including Oblique Seville vs Noah Lyles in Jamaica, Julien Alfred's 10.78 PB in the 100m, Jaydon Hibbert's 17.75m Triple Jump as well as share thoughts on Shericka Jackson's recent 200m races. How I Raised It - The podcast where we interview startup founders who raised capital.

This episode is with Michael Heyink of Yellow.Africa, a startup bringing connectivity and power to rural African communities through an innovative distribution and financing model. In this episode, we talk about the opportunities and challenges of building a startup in Africa, his transition from working in private equity to becoming a startup founder, raising capital from impact investors and development finance institutions, and more. Yellow most recently raised a Series B funding round of $14 million, bringing the total capital raised by Yellow, through a combination of debt and equity, to $45 million. The round was from Convergence Partners and the Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund, managed by Triple Jump, along with follow-on investment from Platform Investment Partners. Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela is the Olympic Champion, World Record Holder, 4-time World Champion and 3-time World Indoor Champion in the Triple Jump. She recently announced that she will not compete at the 2024 Olympics due to an Achilles injury, ending her consecutive gold medal streak. The Triple Jump is often forgotten and far from the most popular events, especially compared to track events like the 100m, 1500m or even field events like the Shot Put and Long Jump. But in just the past 5 years, Rojas and a few other women have arguably produced the most dominance in the event that we have seen in over 15 years. The women's event is relatively young, only getting added to the Olympics in 1996, but in the 30 years since then, there have been a few different era's where women have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the event. Since winning her first Gold medal in 2017, Yulimar Rojas has arguably ushered in a new era of women's jumping that will be on full display at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite Rojas' absence this year, the Women's Triple Jump is in very good hands and will likely be one of, if not the most competitive event to watch at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer. Today we'll dive into a brief history of the Women's Triple Jump, discuss the different era's of the event over the past 30 years as well as highlight the top contenders for the podium in Paris later this summer. “I've kind of taken on this role as an unofficial ambassador for Dominica. I feel like I'm one of the few people representing us on this international athletic stage. When I step out and when I compete and when I talk to people, I want them to really get a taste of the kindness, love and power and amazingness of my home country. I hope that's how people feel.” Thea LaFond-Gadson made history at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow by becoming the first world champion in history for Dominica – the Caribbean island that boasts an estimated population of 72,000+ people. This was her first global championship medal after a few close calls, which included fifth place finishes at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships. She joined Jasmine Todd on Out of The Blocks to recap her brilliant indoor season, and what it's like being coached by her husband Aaron Gadson. She shares the story of how she surpassed 15m for the first time and what her hopes are for the 2024 outdoor campaign and the Paris Olympics. Tori Franklin is an Olympic triple jumper, a public speaker, the author of You Anthem: Stories and Reflections of Celebration, and the founder of the non-profit Live Happi retreats, which empowers youth through travel, mental wellness, and movement. In 2022, Tori became the first American woman to medal at the World Championships, winning bronze in the Triple Jump. Her success came a year after performing below her usual standard at the Tokyo Olympics. I was inspired by an article Tori wrote, describing how she turned her career around by trusting guidance from the universe, and taking a huge leap of faith by moving to Athens, Greece. As you will hear, the spiritual athlete's path to success isn't conventional. Tori shares her path of resilience, overcoming setbacks, sacrifice, and the conviction required to make success a living reality. In less conventional terms, Tori explains how she manages subtle energetics to harmonize mind, body, and spirit, in order to perform at peak level from a space of playfulness and joy. Minute One Hundred Nine: From Fish in a Barrel to More Fish in a BarrelRyanne Bennett from Black Girl Nerds joins us in this episode! In the one-hundred-ninth minute of The Avengers...Is Chris Evans putting on his best Batman voice with his line here? It sure seems that way. This minute gives us a chance to celebrate the power of the non-supers as we really get to see Natasha and Clint doing their best to stop as many Chitauri as they can. We get a bit confused about bus placement, but eventually we figure it out. It doesn't really answer our questions as to why Clint starts by taking people out the bus window before prying the door open. Judging by the fire blast on the bus door, we think there may have been some deleted material in here that was excised. Clint also gets to use his arrows, and we get to talk about the fancy quiver he has paired with his bow and the many arrow heads – specifically the burst shot here. Nat shoots a Chitauri in the face, and behind it we see how limber these Chitauri are. All through this, we also get great video game running and jumping beats from Steve. He sure seems super after this minute. In this year-end episode of Investing In Integrity, we're joined by Peter Akwaboah, the Chief Operating Officer for Technology and Head of Innovation at Morgan Stanley. It's alright to “slow down,” Peter says. “The pandemic taught us we can take time out and calibrate; things will survive and still run.” As we wrap up a year marked by so much uncertainty and kick off 2023, Peter reminds us that “it doesn't matter what we do – taking care of yourself is the only way we continue to have mileage for the marathon.” Peter's career proves that reflection and self-care aren't just compatible with professional excellence, they're conducive to it. He delves into his work spearheading innovation at Morgan Stanley, stressing the importance of clear principles, strong interpersonal relationships, and thought leadership in making a difference. He also explains how Morgan Stanley builds firm-wide resilience to weather global issues such as geopolitical challenges from China, mounting cybersecurity threats, and Russia's War on Ukraine. First an IBM engineer, Peter talks about pivoting from technology to finance and the changing landscape of FinTech, and also explains how the Great Recession of 2007-2009 changed his perspective not only about finance's impact, but his own values and principles. He also digs into diversity, equity, and inclusion, highlighting the differences he saw between firms making statements versus taking actions in the wake of George Floyd's murder. This conversation managed to be both eerily timeless and unmistakably present, packed with wisdom spanning decades applicable to some of the biggest issues in finance and society today. We hope you enjoy our final episode of 2022 – Happy New Year!
