Longtime Lounge listeners will remember Julian from Season 1: March Madness episode about Hardcore Punk. Julian returns with a deep dive into punk and punk adjacent sounds. He talks in length about the Salt Lake City scene of which he was a part of, we discuss the “state of punk” where we highlight contemporary bands, we play a game of ‘Love it or Hate it” with a heavy emphasis on genres like emo, screamo and pop punk and so much more.     Welcome back to another installment of The Needle and Groove Lounge. This week we welcome back our March Madness format by having a guest come on the show and present a specific musical genre of their choosing. Then the fellas try to convince the guest why the track they selected best represents that specific genre. If you listened to our March Madness series in season 1 then you know that Jmac, aka The Vinyl Historian, crushed the competition. It wasn't technically a sweep, but it was a sweep. This season our first guest is Jake from Pittsburgh, Jeff's brother in law's brother in law. Jake chose for the group to focus on 60s and 70s experimental music, it gets groovy and trippy all at once, check it out! Then we move on to segment 2, The Last Call, and it gets spicy! Things take a real turn when Jeff challenges the authenticity of one of the greatest slowcore bands of all time. We also play some really dope music. You are not going to want to miss this one, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the episode.

In the second part we argue who was a the better jazz record label Impulse or Blue Note. Some great arguments are made for both sides but ultimately only one winner can prevail. The Chitlin' Circuit was a series of venues predominantly in the South. These venues were mostly black owned and operated and provided a place for black musicians to play during Jim Crow while they were excluded from many of the nations white owned venues. The Chitlin' Circuit is another example of how black people in America used art, creativity, and entrepreneurship as a form of resistance.
