Nicole Alexis didn't wait for a cosign—she built her sound, her audience, and her entire project from the ground up. In this episode, we dive into her journey from working behind the scenes as a writer and producer to becoming a fully self-made artist, handling everything from recording to engineering on her own. We talk about the grind of building a loyal online following through stripped-back covers, the moment she knew it was time to step into her own voice, and what it really means to stay independent in today's music landscape. Nicole also opens up about her upcoming EP Mirrors and Smoke, the momentum behind songs like “Don't Tell Me To Breathe,” and the story behind her latest single “Just A Friend”—a raw look at the emotional limbo between friendship and something more. If you're into real conversations about music, independence, and chasing something on your own terms—this one hits. #NicoleAlexis #IndieArtist #AltAcoustic #MusicPodcast #NewMusic
In this episode of Seeing Them Live, host Charles sits down with brothers Matheus and Thiago Khouri of the Brazilian rock band Banda AL9. The duo shares the story of their first concert experience — seeing Paul McCartney at Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo in 2010, when Matheus was just 12 and Thiago was 10. Raised by rock-and-roll-loving parents who saw Queen at the same stadium in 1985, the brothers grew up immersed in the music of the Beatles, Deep Purple, and other classic acts. Their father taught them guitar, and before long they were forming bands with school friends. The name "Banda AL9" itself is a nod to a street name in Portuguese and the number nine, inspired by Jack Black's declaration in School of Rock that nine is a magic number. The conversation traces the band's rise from humble beginnings posting cover songs on Facebook and YouTube in 2013 to becoming a viral sensation. After strategically building a fan base with acoustic covers of fifties and sixties rock classics, they released their debut EP of Portuguese-language originals in 2019, with the song "Ela Me Ligou" becoming their first viral hit in Brazil. The pandemic era saw them recording a live studio album just before lockdowns began, and by 2023, everything changed. Their original song "Charma De Amor" exploded on TikTok and Instagram, reaching audiences far beyond Brazil. This caught the attention of world-famous DJ Steve Aoki, who invited them to perform at Tomorrowland and encouraged them to record in English — leading to the international hit "She Calls Me Love." Matheus and Thiago also discuss their exciting new chapter with Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records label. Through a connection with artist Kurt Baker, Steven heard their music, loved it, and signed them — even writing an original song for the band, set for release in July alongside their new album, Hey, Hey, We're Banda AL9. The brothers recount their whirlwind first trip to New York City, which included a live session at SiriusXM's Underground Garage, a free concert at the Cutting Room, and meeting Nickelodeon star Drake Bell. The episode wraps up with an acoustic performance of their latest single, "She Can Do It All," and talk of a potential U.S. tour later in the summer — with a stop in Chicago for fried chicken and deep-dish pizza high on their wish list. BANDS: Banda AL9, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen (E Street Band), Deep Purple, Little Richard, Queen. VENUES: Allianz Parque, Cutting Room, Morumbi Stadium, SiriusXM, Tomorrowland. There's just something fun about learning to play one of your favourite songs for yourself…you know, learning the lyrics, figuring out the chords and the rhythm and deconstructing all the constituent parts… Then you get deeper…you begin to appreciate how everything fits together, the artistic decisions made by songwriter made, what kind of musical skill is required, the sort of production that was employed all that…and by the time you've learned the song, you've learned a whole lot of other things, too…and you're probably a better musician as a result…this is why learning to play other people's music is so important… Now let's look at it from the other side…if a song can be interpreted multiple times by many different people and it still sounds good, then that is a great song… The best compositions not only sound great when played by a full band, but also sound great when performed by one person around a campfire… And finally, there's the fan aspect of all this…people love to hear songs done in different ways by different artists…sometimes the cover is even better than the original—or, at the very least, is revealed to be something more in the hands of someone else… With all this in mind, I've assembled a list of cover songs…and we're going to go through with them to determine what makes them (and the original) great… Learn more about your ad choices. American Vanity joins Caught on the Mike for a deep dive into identity, image, and the evolution of modern rock. Led by dual vocalists Virginia Franks (bass) and Luke Hoffman (guitar), alongside Luke Vanchure on lead guitar and Carter Dennis on drums, the band opens up about stepping into a bold new era after years of national touring as Burn The Jukebox. Now reintroduced as American Vanity, they're sharpening their songwriting, amplifying their hooks, and confronting the tension between authenticity and performance in the attention economy. We talk creative reinvention, the pressure of being seen, lessons from the road, and what it was like working with Grammy-nominated producer Matt Squire on their upcoming full-length album. This episode goes beyond music — it's about growth, risk, and owning who you are when the spotlight fades. Listen now and subscribe for more conversations with artists pushing culture forward.

This week on Revinyl, Shawn wastes no time putting Craig on the hot seat with a round of Either/Or, forcing him to choose between dream reunion tours—like seeing The Smiths or R.E.M. if they toured today. Tough calls and strong opinions kick off the episode.Shawn then rolls into his Over/Under segment, this time entirely themed around Eagles, sparking debate over catalog highlights, legacy, and cultural impact.Craig follows with a look at his latest Shazam discoveries, which were particularly cover-heavy this time out—proving once again how reinterpretations can sometimes hit just as hard (or harder) than the originals. They cap things off with 10 more random selections from Uncut's Top Albums of the 1990s, narrowing the long-running list down to just 10 final albums, which they'll dive into next episode.

This Week on America's Podcast… we Cover My Six
In this episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I spotlight 10 cover songs released this year that turn already familiar tunes into something fresh, unexpected, and conversation-worthy.Cover songs have always been a litmus test for creativity — and something I've always had a personal affinity for — but in 2025, artists are pushing reinterpretation further than ever. By reworking melodies, reshaping arrangements, and reframing the overall vibe, these versions give the originals entirely new meanings. This episode breaks down why these performances resonated, how they differ from (or pay homage to) the originals, and what makes a great cover song connect with fans today!
In this last episode of 2025, Steve and Britt discuss their top ten cover songs from the 80s and early 90s. Featuring covers of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and more! Ike, Spike and Fritz wrap up the show with 5:30 Creed, the Text Line and callers share their favorite cover songs off all time.
Ike, Spike and Fritz are reacting to Howie Roseman making yet another move as he trade for Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips prior to this week's trade deadline. With the additions so far and some NFC contenders going down this weekend, are the Birds the favorite to get back to the Super Bowl? Plus, discussing the greatest cover songs of all time as the side topic gets plenty of buzz from Spike and callers alike.
So many great cover songs. My list is really long. That's why we have part two. Find Waylon Jennings, Todd Snider, Tom Petty, Pat Green, Cheap Trick, and a bunch more. Pretty simple, really. Dive into the magic on Rock Pop and Roll.
We're back with more of our favorite cover songs! By paying homage to influences and bridging generational gaps, cover songs are a testament to the enduring power of music to connect, inspire and entertain. Join us as we talk about some great cover songs from amazing artists like Nirvana, The White Stripes, Anthrax, Duran Duran, King's X, Alien Ant Farm and more!
Cover songs often aren't what they should be. Many are pale and pointless facsimiles of the original songs, and others even take off into some new direction for no reason whatsoever. Rude. So this week the "How We Heard It" guys let their imaginations run wild, freewheeling through music history (from 60-odd years ago to today), mixing and matching some of the most popular songs of all time to an expansive variety of distinctive artists, old and new. They make inspired choices as they spitball ideas, conjuring some songs you just know would be great, some you'd at least want to check out and some that would doubtless be terrible. There are no rules to the game - artists who are long dead could be called upon to cover new songs just as easily as new artists could be called upon to cover old songs (with AI, anything is possible). As a result, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Karen Carpenter and Prince can be called upon just as easily as Lady Gaga, John Legend, Billie Eilish and Benson Boone. Who would cover the Beatles? Who would the Beatles cover? You'll likely be surprised who the guys pick to cover Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," John Lennon's "Imagine," Bette Midler's 'Wind Beneath My Wings," Blondie's "Call Me" and R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" - just to name a few. Find out what very different songs they have in mind for Lana Del Rey to cover and the unthinkably bizarre (albeit tantalizing) pair they'd pick to remake "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. Free your mind and play along.

The show opens with Adam talking to Jason “Mayhem” Miller about once again getting flipped off on the freeway, the glorious end to Mike August's “Brisket Quest”, and AOC & Tim Walz's reaction to Tony Hinchcliffe's appearance at a Donald Trump rally. Next, comedian Bret Ernst returns to the show to talk about his new special, Uncaged. They also discuss how songs about being in a band tend to be good, while songs about evil women are always bad. Then, Jason “Mayhem” Miller reads the news including stories about how Burlington, Vermont leadership is now calling for more officers after admitting that defunding the police was a mistake, towns setting an age limit on trick-or-treaters, and Philadelphia's D.A. suing Elon Musk to stop his million dollar giveaway. Finally, Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad joins the show to talk about his new solo album, why GFR isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, what it's like hearing covers of his songs, opening for Led Zeppelin, his songwriting process, and the potential of a GFR reunion.
