All ministry is done “in the sight of God”. Love people with your eyes open- Saint Augustine put it this way, “Better it is to love even with the accompaniment of severity than to mislead by excess of lenience.” Meaning, it's better to show love with a little bit of toughness, tough love, rather than mislead someone by being too nice. Or the Book of Proverbs says- “better is open rebuke than hidden love; wounds from a friend can be trusted but an enemy multiplies kisses,” Proverbs 27, verses 5-6. Those truths encapsulate the challenge the Apostle Paul had in writing to the Corinthian Church! He loved them deeply, and yet they were his most challenging congregation. He speaks forcefully because he knows all of us live “in the sight of God.” There is a holy God given fear, that should be present in our minds and hearts when we gather. Why? Because we are worshiping the Living God. This is not simply a social or cultural exercise. It is not simply singing songs or reading in unison or speaking. God is here! Christ is among us! … The post In the Sight of God appeared first on Trinity Community Church.

Is Paul addressing the church and telling them to stay away from non-Christians? Not exactly, although there are times when that separation is needed. God's power displayed through ordinary people seems like a paradox. Ordinary, earthenware vessels- that is what we are. Message from 2 Corinthians 3:7-11 Other Sermons from 2 Corinthians What is New About the New Covenant? The post The Glory of the New Covenant- Part 1 appeared first on Trinity Community Church.
What is the New Covenant? The New Covenant is God making a way through his Son Jesus Christ- sealing the covenant through Christs blood--so that people can be made right with Him and have spiritual, everlasting life. The Spirit of God seals our salvation and writes His law on our hearts, so that we can obey God in freedom and joy. Our motivation is not to obey in order to please God, as if we were in danger of falling out of his favor. Our motivation is to obey Him out of gratitude, joy, and the pleasure of being in His will. Paul defends his apostleship to the Corinthians, and points back to the gospel message, which has taken hold in their hearts. Their changed lives are all the recommendation he needs. He then reminds them of the power and assurance of the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant. The letter of the law, and the law itself, could not produce new life. Only the Holy Spirit can produce new life and a new heart. The post Key differences between the Old Covenant and New Covenant appeared first on Trinity Community Church.
