How effective is a prayer? How can a prayer change and shape the lives of our children? Jodie Berndt is the proud mother of four, and after 40 years of marriage and the blessing of many grandchildren, she knows first-hand the importance of praying for her kids and waiting patiently in the moments between. As an author and Bible teacher, Jodie shares well-earned wisdom about praying daily for our children at every stage of life, whether they are toddlers, teens, or adults with families of their own. Praying is a form of acknowledging that we don't have all the answers, she says. Prayer doesn't have to be mysterious or inaccessible. Nathan grew up in a family with generations in missionary service. Kari didn't find Jesus until her 20s—after exploring Hindu and Buddhist teachings and spirituality. Nathan and Kari understand the great need in South Asia for gospel seed planting, harvest and discipleship. In South Asia, Christian persecution continues, at times propelled by government decrees (like anti-conversion laws in India) and at other times coming from close family members of the believer. In this special "how-to" episode and with his permission, we will peek in on a conversation that George Strawbridge had with Jesus. This detailed conversation will show you how Jesus wants each of us to encounter Him. Dr. Patty adds some commentary along the way. I think you will appreciate the questions George is asking here as they may be questions that you wonder about too, but never thought you could ask Jesus about them. Jesus answered some practical questions like: How can I experience you? and How did you live a sinless life? What curiosities do you have about God? Jesus will answer your specific questions in your Experience Jesus encounter time. George Strawbridge is a member of our Online Spirit Life Workshops and learned how to have these conversations the same way that I did through the work of Dr. Mark Virkler at Communion with God Ministries using the dialogue journaling tool that we use on this podcast to connect with Jesus. God may include delays as part of His perfect answer to our prayers.
Wake Up to Love, and pray the Holy Rosary with us LIVE every weekday morning at 4:44 am ET
Instead of feeling guilty because you don't like certain people, acknowledge they are not likable to you, but agree with God that you are willing to love them. Love them with his kind of love—agape love—which is an action, not necessarily a feeling. It always helps to remember we're often unlikable to God, yet he never stops loving us. And it is that kind of love that should overflow from our lives to others. When that happens—when others can see we can love people who are not likable—we will have one of the strongest witnesses of God's grace we can ever have. You know if you can learn to love people you don't like, it has to be a miracle right from God. And that miracle in your life can cause others to be thirsty for the eternal water Jesus offers, which they see demonstrated in your life. Here's my suggestion: Make a plan to love those people you don't like. Make a list of the people you find it difficult to like. Include what it is about them that makes them unlikable to you. Then, choose one unlikable person per week to focus on. Pray for that specific person each day of that week. Pray for the things you see in their lives that make them so unlikable. Pray God will help you to see and understand them the way he does. Pray for God's love to overflow from you to that person in some specific way sometime during the week. If you will focus on one person per week and keep going through that list, what you'll discover is God can even change your feelings toward them. But regardless, you will be showing love to those unlikable people, and the changes you will see in yourself will astound you. When you start learning to love them, they no longer can get to you like they used to. Oh, they may still have irritating habits and personalities, but they just will not bug you like before. It's amazing how that happens. You realize, "Wow, I'm free from that awful dread of seeing them coming or having to deal with them, because even though I don't really like them, I really do love them the way Jesus does.”
Prayer invites God‘s presence, and assures you that He is faithful to act in your behalf.
This War room prayer meeting goes into how to get your prayers answered by God! You must pray God's will to be done which is His Word! You will be more effective in your prayer life if you apply this wisdom to your life!

SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 286, “Do You Have the Courage to Pray God-Sized Prayers?“ Kim discusses the importance of praying God-sized prayers, not only in tragic circumstances but daily. In today's text, we see Elijah praying another God-sized prayer, amid his questions. How might the Lord have been using this situation to prepare Elijah for his famous Mt. Carmel spiritual warfare prayers? Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 17:17-24 with 20-22 as the focal verses: 20 Then Elijah cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?” 21 And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this child's life return to him.” 22 The Lord heard Elijah's prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived! What does it mean to dwell? It certainly means to live, to occupy a house or apartment, but we also use the word to mean to point attention toward. If you dwell on something, you focus on it steadfastly, not wavering or casting about for something else. But why should we? Because He makes clear the path of life, helping us to know where we should step. He fills us with joy as we spend time in his presence, and who doesn't need more joy? Do you know what it means...what it feels like to dwell in the Lord's presence? Listen to today's episode from Laura Lee Groves, based on Psalm 16:11. Presented by Lauren Stibgen We are going to look at the other definition of waiting: serving or being in attendance. An adjective. How is God calling you to “waiting” in action while you are in the waiting? I know this may sound funny, but waiting doesn't mean you need to be stuck! God calls you to action as a follower of Jesus. I have a list of reminders I call God's to do list when I feel stuck. Often this is in the waiting. I am seeking his wisdom or discernment, or I find myself waiting for other things we have already discussed. My reminders include: love, work as to him, be in his Word, pray, reflect and observe, repent, and give gratitude. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a biblical list of how God calls us to action—not only in the waiting but in our everyday life as followers of Jesus Christ. In the waiting we are called to love! But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked (Luke 6:35). Sometimes we are waiting because of conflict—here we are called to love those we are in turmoil with. In the waiting we are called to work! Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24). If you are waiting for that new job, a promotion or the raise, fix your work on the Lord! In the waiting, be in the word and pray and praise! Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). In all circumstances, even in the waiting, we need to pray and rejoice! In the waiting God calls us to repent. Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy (Proverbs 28:13). God is calling you to action in the waiting. How are you loving others? Are you in God's Word? Are you praying in the waiting? What do you need to repent of in the waiting? Maybe feelings that are contrary to what God is wanting you to feel. Waiting doesn't need to keep you stuck! You can still be active in the waiting. Pray God changes your heart to what he has for you in this season.
There's a storm in you right now. It's always there in the background, sometimes in the foreground. When a seeming circumstance brings it to your attention, you blame the circumstance, you blame that person, but the storm was here and it's BEEN raging, waiting, for you to Feel to Know, 'I Am' in the midst of 'you'. For you to hear that still, small voice saying, "Peace be still." You can say that to your thoughts inside, you can say it to your anger inside. Feel God's presence within you, and that's the Peace that stills. The clouds part, and you can feel the Son again. That's the Promise. Everything is happening, but Nothing Is. As Christians, We need to know how to pray the way that God has shown us throughout Scripture, not based on what we feel; in praying that way we can have confidence that he not only hears our prayers but is pleased to answer them because they glorify him
Stephanie here! I had the most delightful encounter today with Summer Joy Gross. Let me tell you about her through reading a sample of the book we're going to talk about. It's called The Emmanuel Promise, and it's a book that I lingered over. I took time. As you know, I read several books a week to decide which ones I'm going to have on the show. And this one, I just couldn't, read it quick. I just had to take my time with it. So here's what she writes. “Try it out. Go to a busy Starbucks at 7 in the morning, and as people rush in and out, ask Emmanuel to give you eyes to see his love for this one unique expression of his creativity or to gift you with a picture of their pain? Practice the presence of God with this person standing on the threshold of their day, one glorious being, broken and beautiful at a time. Ask, and then pray his heart for them. Look around at the faces of those lost in the glow of their screens and ask Emmanuel to flood you with his first majestic idea of their creation, what he meant when he create he carefully crafted them. Become easily delighted with created art in human form. Fall in love a 1000 times over. Then, attached and courageous enough to risk, make yourself available to Emmanuel's mission to speak good news to the poor, rescue captives, bind up broken hearts, comfort mourners, to draw all people into attachment love with their Emmanuel, the one who longs to fill every empty heart. Then go to the homeless shelter, to the prison, to the boutique, to the boat docks. Walk the light of Christ into the corners of the world. Pray God would make every ordinary location a sanctuary of His presence. “ Now, let me tell you: Someone who inspires me to do that is someone I want to hang out with. And that's Summer Joy Gross. She is an Anglican priest, retreat leader, spiritual director whose work is guided by the belief that our stories can be transformed by God's invitation to make his love our home base. She's an associate faculty of spiritual formation and the art of spiritual direction at the Healing Care Ministries Spiritual Direction School. She's the host of the Presence podcast. She lives in North Georgia with her husband. They have 3 teenagers, and a Britney Spaniel who points lawn ornament rabbits around their suburban neighborhood. Now, let me tell you about our conversation. Summer Joy Gross beautifully invites us into the essence of believing in the constant presence of God, drawing inspiration from Brother Lawrence who found comfort in God's presence during pandemics and war. She emphasizes the use of physical objects to remind oneself of God's presence. We talk about the transformative power of suffering, embracing all emotions, and finding rest in God even through the dark night of the soul. Summer Joy Gross courageously shares her personal experience of questioning God's goodness after enduring sexual abuse. Her journey, spanning over 7-8 years of doubt, resonates deeply and beautifully reflects the resilience to find belief in the goodness of God. The conversation uncovers the struggle of false beliefs and the freedom found in believing in God's heart for humanity. They expand on the power of spiritual practices and the deep, soul-nourishing experience of Lectio Divina. Summer highlights the importance of acknowledging and bringing our needs before God, creating a pathway for a rich, fulfilling relationship with Him. Together, we invite you into the impact of early wounds and the beauty in merging spiritual practices with science. Here are 5 key topics in this episode: 1. The importance of practicing the presence of God, particularly in challenging times, and how it can bring comfort and peace. 2. Exploring the use of physical objects like candles and jewelry to remind ourselves of God's presence in our daily lives. 3. Embracing a more embodied experience of faith rather than relying solely on intellectual understanding. 4. Overcoming doubt and false beliefs about God's heart through transformative experiences of His goodness and compassion. 5. Using spiritual practices like Lectio Divina and imaginative prayer to deepen our connection with God and find freedom and healing. So make sure to join us! Today's promise: Psalm 34:7 Few people have ever seen an angel. Even in the Bible, there are only a few instances of an Angel manifesting itself. However, God promises that these unseen guardians surround you with supernatural protection. When you know God's angels are surrounding and protecting you, you never have to fear. There are more with you than against you. Pray God opens your eyes to the spiritual battle around you.

When difficult situations arise, one of the biggest problems people face is discouragement. We pray expecting life to go our way. Then, when it doesn't, we struggle with our disappointment. After several of these experiences, we can be tempted to lose heart and quit. When people do what is right in their own eyes and justify their actions towards others as good, God exposes their hearts. While people may believe what they do is justified, God doesn't always see it that way. He judges the heart. Have you lost heart? Are you tempted to do things your way? Jesus often compares physical hunger with the deep hunger for God that all of us are born with. He also demonstrates and explains that our soul hunger is only satisfied by him alone. We often forget that we will not be satisfied completely until we look to Jesus and his limitless resources and power. Only when we learn to be completely satisfied with God can we move into our day with expectations focused on him and not transparency, community, and accountability from others. Are you satisfied with Jesus? Tune in to today's episode with Erin H. Warren, from Mark 6:37. Would you like to have today's episode in written form? Consider joining our Patreon! The temple was a familiar, sacred place to Jesus. He loved His Father's house, but the leaders there did not love Him in return. He was not only unwelcome, but wanted by the high priests and scribes. They were circling Him as He taught, but there were too many people watching for them to act on their desire to destroy Him. It wasn't the time. Yet. I wonder what might have happened if they'd listened to Jesus? If they sat while Jesus spoke, hanging on His every word, ears tuned to Him. Would their hearts have been changed? It happened to my husband: a person in leadership made a comment that left him feeling like he'd been hit in the stomach. I would sit back quietly as he shared what had been said and then marvel at how he was able to take the hits with such grace. I became offended for him, feeling like he should say something to set the record straight. My husband quietly processed the comment, prayed, and then left it in the Lord's hands. Now it was my turn! The same person who hurt my precious husband made some comments that were directed toward me. I was stunned when I first heard what was said. I could hardly process all the emotions that I felt all at once: anger, embarrassment, frustration, hurt—all churning in my stomach at the same time. and then came the desire to set the record straight and to correct the faulty thinking! How do you react when you've been offended? Listen to today's episode to learn 10 biblical responses to offense, from Gina Smith, based on Proverbs 17:9. I talked with some friends recently who said something that I thought perfectly captured the years between the ages of 12 and about 14. They said, one minute you're so proud of who they're becoming and the next you think they might be complete idiots. This is so true, but after talking with my friends, I realized that it's also quite normal. The exponential growth our boys and girls are experiencing during this season makes them scattered, emotional, amazing, dramatic, smart, and a little bit fussy. It also makes them more able to learn and embrace the world around them than ever before, and that's a good thing. Except, I haven't been enjoying it that much. I have been parenting from a place of fear and have let the stress of that lifestyle keep me from experiencing the joy of watching some of my very favorite people grow up. Nothing seems to challenge us to conform to the image of God like being a parent. I think the preteen years are the worst. The kids are a hormonal mess. They can't remember what they're doing, they bicker non-stop, and if you call them down about the slightest thing, they completely lose it in a shower of accusations. How on earth do you deal with them though when they're just unreasonable and so annoying? Listen to today's episode from Melanie Young, based on Ephesians 4:20-22. I tell my kids this until the day they leave the home. When we become disgruntled over petty things like weather, fairness, or material possessions, our remembrance of what true blessings are has slipped far from our focus. We use the word blessings so freely and loosely in our culture today, and yet do we truly understand what it means to live the blessed life? Perhaps we overcomplicate the Christian life and make it more about comfort and blessings for our needs or what we deserve. When was the last time you thought about what it truly means to be blessed? He looked at me imploringly with his chocolate brown eyes and said, “Mom what if it's not true? What if God isn't real?” My heart broke a little bit with these questions while simultaneously being grateful for my son's honesty. I breathed a prayer as I sought to give him an answer knowing full well my words would not be enough. But when my words are inadequate, God faithfully gives me his words. That day he brought Mark 9:24 to mind and I shared the verse with my son. “I believe, help my unbelief.” I asked him to pray this prayer whenever he has doubts. What do you know to be true of God? "Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are." - Jesus (John 17:11) If you're ready for your next level, your new chapter, you have to take God's Name and start, now. You have to take your prayer beads, and know that one end is in your hand, and the other is in God's, and start now. Love, now, on every bead. But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth." - John 17:11-19 "The best sign of you progressing in your meditation is something which is very self-evident.
