Fiona Ellis’s career is certainly one about escapism. After pursuing a sensible career in laboratory work for textile production and colour cosmetic formulation, Fiona escaped from career-captivity in the early 1990’s to pursue fashion design at De Montfort University. She graduated with a degree specializing in Knitwear design. Fiona then founded her independent design business, selling designs to major fashion houses in New York, Paris and London. Her contacts in New York helped her to add design for the independent knitter to her repertoire. This led to her published patterns in major print and on-line magazines, and two successful books published by Random House. Listen Live for chance to win great prizes! It all began in the late 1980's. Bob Dunbabin found a location for Cascade Yarns® in a vacant storefront, in Pioneer Square, Seattle. The space was modest, squeezed between a mission for the homeless and the main north-south rail line. To Bob, the modest but logistically well located space suited the company’s needs. Best of all, it came with a good price. Bob believed that knitters cared more about the quality of the yarn, than the prestige of the office location. Cascade Yarns® remains a family business with Bob's daughter-in-law, Shannon, joining the business in 2003 and his son, Rob, moving full time into the business in 2005. We love our yarns and we hope that you enjoy knitting with them. Listen Live for chance to win great prizes! Josh Bennett grew up in Pennsylvania where he learned to knit from his grandmother when he was 8 years old. After a short time, he stopped, because boys don’t knit. The Original Buffalo Wool Company was chartered in 1821 by the Hudson Bay Co. in Red River Manitoba, headed by Lady Selkirk, the wife of the then governor. The plan was to harvest bison fiber and make ladies hosiery They were founded and funded with £5000,and after spending almost 4/5th of that investment on rum, proceeded to go bankrupt fairly quickly. Fast forward 190 years, The BWC was revived both in name and spirit by Theresa & Ron Miskin. Ron an ex-restauranteur and Theresa, a public housing councilor. Ron and "T" have spent the last 10 years traveling around the globe as "bison ambassadors" showing off the beauty and benefits of bison and bison fiber. Listen Live for chance to win great prizes! She learned to crochet before grade school and has been wildly obsessed ever since! After crocheting “in the closet” most of her life, Salena burst out after finding Ravelry in 2009. Learning that an entire world of crocheters were available to connect with was life-changing, and it determined her next career move; crochet design and networking. She’s published over 200 patterns, has very strong ties in the crochet and fiber arts community, and is the author of Crochet for Christmas. Salena currently lives with her family in Oregon.
