It all began in the late 1980's. Bob Dunbabin found a location for Cascade Yarns® in a vacant storefront, in Pioneer Square, Seattle. The space was modest, squeezed between a mission for the homeless and the main north-south rail line. To Bob, the modest but logistically well located space suited the company’s needs. Best of all, it came with a good price. Bob believed that knitters cared more about the quality of the yarn, than the prestige of the office location. Cascade Yarns® remains a family business with Bob's daughter-in-law, Shannon, joining the business in 2003 and his son, Rob, moving full time into the business in 2005. Beth is a knitting teacher, designer, and technical editor whose curiosity has led her to visit many countries (stranded color, EPS, k1b, lace, ...) on the knitting-world map. Originally from New England, she now lives in San Francisco, where mountains, ocean, and Haight Street are always good sources of inspiration. Her designs have been published in Creative Knitting and Knitters' magazine, as well as by Cascade Yarns, Claudia's Handpaint, Fiesta Yarns, and Red Heart. She has been teaching locally since 2003, and nationally at STITCHES Expos since 2005. What she loves most about teaching is finding ways to make light bulbs pop on in her students' heads and helping them grow as knitters. What we can do in our knitting, we can do in our lives. Woo! Review: Heritage Sock Yarn by Cascade Yarns (courtesy of Purlescence Yarns) Jasmin is getting roughly 8 sts/in on US 1 1/2 Hiya Hiya needles. (Buy them at your LYS!) The yarn has fabulous stitch definition and a terrific hand. It also has a decent price point for a handpainted sock yarn. ($17-$18/ 100g) Mother Knows Best: Try new things! You don't have to stick with a hobby if you don't love it anymore. You also don't have to do 100% of everything for your interest. If you buy a fleece, you don't have to process it yourself. Send it to Shari at Morro Fleece Works! (She's fabulous.) If you're not sure, process a handful of the fleece yourself. That's a decent representative sample of the whole process. Out and About: Spinning at the Retzlaff winery. Lots of people, more vendors, and TWO chickens! Good wine, good company, good wool. Good times. Join us for Worldwide Knit in Public Day! We'll be at Santana Row. When Knitting Attacks!
