My first exposure to Anne Lamott's work was her iconic book, Bird By Bird, which as a writer, was transformative. Not just because it helped me better understand how and why to write, but also because her wonderfully wise and irreverent voice inspired me to be more real, more honest in both my work and my life. I've remained captivated by her writing ever since. The author of too many The New York Times bestsellers, including Almost Everything; Hallelujah Anyway; Small Victories; Stitches; Help, Thanks, Wow; and her most recent Dusk Night Dawn, Anne goes places other fear to tread with such humility, humor and craft, it's like you've been invited into her mind, her life and her ability to draw belly laughs, deep wisdom and hits of awakening from those often tiny moments that touch down in our lives that so many of us miss. She reminds you, it may not be fun while it's happening, but it's all part of the beautiful souffle of life and every ingredient matters. So excited to share this best-of conversation with you now.You can find Anne at: Website | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Glennon Doyle about living more authentically and untamed.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book SparkedMy New Podcast SPARKED. Knitting in Passing Riley finished the Reinpack Bag (free Ravelry Download she was knitting for my Mom, her grandmother. We bought yarn at Staci's Stitches. The yarn is a super bulky t-shirt yarn from Hoooked Zpaghetti. She did most of the bag in a white with black polka dots and then black towards the bottom. The black yarn was definitely thinner, which wasn't ideal but as long as Mom doesn't use it to store small buttons or screws, it should be just fine. I gave Riley a very brief kitchener stitch overview and she flew through the rest of it to close up this bag. I'm so proud of her. In My Travels I visited with Laura in Orleans over the last two weekends. We went to a movie theater to see A Man Called Otto. We browsed Provincetown, which is a bit sleepy in the offseason. We had fun browsing a few shops. We did a taste test of 3 peanut butter cups. Of the three milk chocolate peanut butter cups, Hilliard's Candy was our favorite followed by The Providence Fudge Factory and then Hot Chocolate Sparrow. I taught Laura how to make homemade stovetop popcorn and that nearly turned into a disaster when we thought we ruined the bottom of a Les Creuset but were able to clean/remove the stain with vinegar and baking soda. We also visited the Antique Center & Cape Abilities Thrift Store in Yarmouth, MA. I made a quick trip to Adventures in Knitting in Harwich on Saturday. I bought 2 skeins of yarn and a set of Addi sock needles. What is your definition of loyalty? Is there a such thing as blind loyalty or being loyal to a fault? Join Jay Gordon and I as we talk about the bands latest single, and the subsequent plan for releasing new music from the band. We also talk about Sick New World Festival, and how long that had been in the works, and if it was a similar scenario to the When We Were Young Fest in that they announced bands that hadn't actually been confirmed. Jay also talks about filming the video for “Stitches” and how that process was being enclosed in a box with no air for hours, and reflects back on putting out “Blue Monday” as a single. He also talks about how Rihanna used a part of their version of the song in one of hers, which lead us to discussing possible legal actions Jay could take to get song writing credit ala Olivia Rodrigo and Paramore over her “Good for You” hit. Jay also talks about his kids becoming more of their own people, his son getting into music and fashion, his daughter getting into acting and if he has any fears of them getting into creative outlets and more in this kid ranging chat with the Orgy frontman. She wrote: A lovely story told with poetic lyricism and gentle humor, You Can't Dance a Lie is more than a memoir of love and relationships—it's the chronicle of a woman learning to trust herself completely before stepping into the love-shaped life she makes possible for herself. - Rachael Herron, Bestselling Author of A Life in Stitches ordered sample copies from Ingram so I can decide on which type of hardcover to do; and started formatting the large print edition of the memoir. Waiting to send more details to the cover designer until I get the samples from Ingram. I'm wondering about BookVault for distribution of a dust jacketed hardcover. Hoth Takes: A Star Wars Podcast
Andor won critical acclaim for its gritty and nuanced portrayal of rebellion in Star Wars, but what makes its depiction of insurgency so special? In this episode, The Atlantic's Adam Serwer joins Eric, Grace, and Haley to discuss how faith and revenge motivate rebellion throughout Star Wars, how Luthen's approach to insurrection sets him apart, how class shapes the goals and decisions of Andor's rebel and Imperial characters, and what the show says about the role of radical revolutionary violence. Plus, we compare Andor to Star Wars Rebels, Adam makes the case that Andor wants us to think Luthen is a fugitive Jedi, and we discuss a curious theory about two droids being one.

On today's episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast, we're talking about slow stitching with my guest Samantha Hoyt. Samantha Hoyt is the owner and creative director of A Gathering of Stitches, a series of small-scale immersive retreats in Maine for quilters and garment sewists. She has been running the Slow Stitching and Slow Fashion retreats since 2015. The business began as a Maker Space in Portland's East Bayside neighborhood in 2013. Before A Gathering of Stitches, Samantha was a partner with her ex-husband in Rabelais, Fine Books on Food & Wine, a culinary book store also in Portland from 2008 to today. She was raised in New York City and had a number of careers before landing her craft role. She started with modern dance in her 20s, photography in her 20s and '30s (including a 7-year stint as a photo editor at People magazine), and arriving in the world of food as a pastry cook before moving to Maine in 2005. She has been sewing and knitting since childhood and has always liked to throw a good party, so the retreats make her very happy. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Craftsy. Mary Queen of Scots is one of the most written about women in history. We think we know her well – but here's a new account that re-interprets her life from the point of view of the textiles she wore and the embroideries she stitched. It casts a completely different light on her difficult existence and brings her fully into focus as a living, breathing human being. Here is a renaissance queen displaying her power in violet taffeta and purple velvet, who wore silver to mourn, black to display her statesmanship, and white for innocence and piety. The book is Clare Hunter's Embroidering Her Truth, Mary Queen of Scots and the Language of Power, and it is Haptic & Hue's choice for our Book of the Year 2022. In this special end-of-year episode, Jo talks at length to Clare about her research and what it told her about Mary. It sets Mary in context both as a consumer of elite textiles and also as an embroiderer during her long captivity. At her death, Mary left over 300 embroideries, many of which can still be seen both in Scotland and England, which she used to tell her own story. They give us an insight into her state of mind and the messages she was trying to convey to the outside world. You can find a full script of this podcast, pictures, links and show-notes at www.hapticandhue.com/listen. Embroidering Her Truth, Mary Queen of Scots and the Language of Power can be bought in the Haptic & Hue UK bookshop. Haptic & Hue earns a small commission on this at no extra cost to you.

My guest today is Professor Alexandra Natapoff. Alexandra is a law professor at Harvard University. She writes about criminal courts, public defense, plea bargaining, wrongful convictions, and race and inequality in the criminal justice system. Her new book, which is an expanded edition of her older book is called "Snitching: Criminal Informants and the Erosion of American Justice" In this episode, Alexandra and I discuss a phenomenon that's rarely encountered outside of shows like The Sopranos and The Wire, which is the use of criminal informants in the American justice system. Not all countries allow cops and prosecutors to reduce an accused criminal sentence in exchange for his cooperation and other investigations. However, Alexandra argues that most local and state agencies in America are allowed to do this with no documentation and no transparency. We talk about the advantages as well as the flaws of this system. We discuss the risk of informants giving false information or even planting evidence to reduce their own sentences. We talk about the triangular relationship between cops, informants, and prosecutors. We talk about the secretive nature of the informant system and how that prevents academics from studying it. I also press Alexandra on whether her proposal for transparency in the informant system would hinder the cops' ability to solve violent crimes and protect unsafe neighborhoods. #Ad Need to hire? Snitches Get Stitches. There is a law on the books of New York City. It's not a new law but one that has been around since 2018. It is the "snitch' law. How does it work you ask? Citizens of New York hunt for semi-trucks that are idling their motors. They must video the truck for longer than the 3 minutes a trucker is allowed to idle. They then report the trucker and boom, they get paid. This may sound crazy but it is a very true law on. the books. One New Yorker reportedly made over $60, 000 in 2021. Imagine that, a trucker is sitting in 20 degree weather and is expected to freeze because the law states, he may only idle for no more than 3 minutes. Tune in to TalkCDL trucking Podcast and hear the break down of this inconvenient law. This is a phrase used by inner-city communities that was intended to keep the police out of neighborhood business. The phrase was coined to remind those seeking the help of police that to, "snitch", would result in a beat down. Unfortunately, this phrase has become a large reason why violence and poverty permeates inner-city communities. True or False? Let's discuss this and more on the next episode of Queen3 & King with special guest hosts Gary Freeman & Ben Sudderth, III.

The Benchwarmers Trivia Podcast
David hosts an all-Benchwarmer game pitting Dan & Mason against Scott & Josh. The teams branded the match a "David game" before we even got going; little did they know. In a heated moment, one team is requested to take a long walk off a Juan Pierre. Dan also reasons out an answer (or misreads a question?) by pondering if a certain player went to Canada? Lastly, Dan does offer up a new WWE PPV idea hosted in Montana, the Helena Cell. #davidgame #schmitchesgetstiches #juanpierre #blamecanada #helenacell https://www.patreon.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.facebook.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.twitter.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.instagram.com/benchwarmerstp/ https://www.teepublic.com/stores/benchwarmers-trivia-podcast
Happy Halloween, Twisted Listeners! Although this episode will be released on Halloween, we've said goodbye to our holiday themed lists and gone a little different direction this week. This week we decided to tackle the insanely frustrating topic of witnesses who were killed before they could or because they did testify. These cases will have you pulling your hair out, wondering why the police didn't help. and maybe make us all a little more sympathetic to people who keep their eyes down and their mouths shut! We always want a case to be solved, but when it comes to situations like these, we think it's fair to stay quiet so you can stay off our lists!Check out our website! www.twistedlisterspod.comBrought to you by Podmoth Media Network podmoth.networkJoin us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/twistedlistersFollow us on Instagram: @twistedlisterspcastTiktok: @twistedlistersCases Covered:1.
