In this confronting episode, host and former funeral director Brett sits down again with Scott Andriske to share the darkest, rawest side of life on the road. From a catastrophic bus crash that tore through homes and nearly claimed a busload of kids, to a heartbreaking fatal hit-and-run involving people close to Scott—this is the unfiltered truth of what first responders and towies really face. The boys talk trauma, desensitisation, and the unseen weight of being first on scene. Not for the faint-hearted, but absolutely real.#propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast. Rangimarie "Marnie" Dougall-Mita is a professional basketball player for the Wellington Saints, content creator, and someone who's been on a powerful journey of self-discovery. Honestly, could have yarned to Marnie for a couple more hours – it's almost like he runs his own podcast (check it out, Yarns with Marns). In this episode, we unpack the defining moments that have shaped him — from a devastating knee injury that left him sidelined and spiraling mentally, to rebuilding himself through self-development, vulnerability, and spiritual growth. Marnie opens up about the pressure of performing in pro sport, the weight of identity, and what it took to start showing up more authentically in his life and online. We talk about what it means to process childhood wounds, and how he's learning to share his truth through content. Whether you're into sport, self-discovery, or just love hearing people reflect with honesty — this is a special kōrero with someone who's still evolving in real time. In our latest ‘Whipping Yarn', we talk with Simon Hart, former Conservative Chief Whip during Rishi Sunak's Premiership. Hart opens up about his time in one of Westminster's most demanding and discreet roles, chronicled in his new book, ‘Ungovernable: The Political Diaries of a Chief Whip'. From late night phone calls about MPs stuck in compromising situations to managing high-stakes parliamentary votes, Hart gives a candid account of navigating one of the most turbulent chapters in British politics. He lifts the lid on the daily challenges of keeping a restless party in line while balancing scandals, shifting alliances, and the relentless demands of government business.Hart also takes us behind the scenes of the Whips' Office – a place often shrouded in secrecy. Beyond the headlines and power plays, he gives us a rare glimpse into the day-to-day work of the Whips – part disciplinarian, part therapist – shedding light on their lesser-known pastoral and administrative responsibilities, from safeguarding MPs' well-being to orchestrating the daily rhythms of Parliament.Reflecting on his time in office, Hart shares insights into what makes a good MP and why so many arrive in Westminster unprepared for the job and the reality of life as a parliamentarian or minister. He argues that political parties must do more to identify and nurture talent early, to raise the standard of future leadership across the board.

In this episode Sasha explores cabled yarns, which require multiple plying steps but which have a distinct look and texture and are fantastically durable. While they don't significantly change the look of stockinette or garter stitch, cabled yarns really shine in more intricate patterns like seed stitch. You can find the script for this episode HERE. Yarrawonga had played in four straight OM netball A grade grand finals between 1999 and 2002 with just the one premiership in 2001, they then lost four straight preliminary finals between 2003 and 2006 – they broke the prelim final hoodoo in 2007 but were beaten in the 2007 grand final by North Albury – the following year they again lost to North Albury in the grand final – they had enough and were determined to make 2009 count under the guile of coach Tracey Gillies.

It's not that they're yarns we're particularly motivated to actually make, it's more that they are yarns we dream about. Think frivolity and fun. I remember a simple yet enchanting holiday moment—it began with my grandparents standing beside the Christmas tree. Its lights were glowing gently in the early evening, and the house carried that pleasant hush that settles in once the day's bustle has quieted down. They leaned toward me and said, “Squint your eyes, and you'll see the lights better.” Naturally, as a curious child, I obliged. In an instant, those bright points of color blurred into radiant halos, as if each bulb had become a tiny star in its universe. It felt like stepping into a world shaped by whispers and warm glances, where small acts—like narrowing your eyes—could turn the ordinary into something magical... Washington undertook a tour of the ex-colonies to talk to ordinary citizens about his new government, and to imbue in them the idea of being one thing—Americans. In the fall of 2018, Nathaniel Philbrick embarked on his own journey into what Washington called “the infant woody country” to see for himself what America had become in the 229 years since. Writing in a thoughtful first person about his own adventures with his wife, Melissa, and their dog, Dora, Philbrick follows Washington's presidential excursions: from Mount Vernon to the new capital in New York; a monthlong tour of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island; a venture onto Long Island and eventually across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The narrative moves smoothly between the eighteenth and twenty-first centuries as we see the country through both Washington's and Philbrick's eyes. 1912 St the Delaware

1963 JFK at Washington Senators opening day

This week, we're tackling two seismic shifts in politics: Ireland's sugar-rush election and Trumpism's ripple effects across Europe. As Irish politicians shower voters with freebies—from energy credits to student grants—are they ignoring the storm clouds brewing overseas? Meanwhile, Germany is picking up the phone to Russia, reshaping the geopolitics of Europe as Trump's influence pushes allies to rethink old alliances. What does Ireland's obsession with giveaways say about its political class, and how will Trumpism challenge Ireland's economic model? From Olaf Scholz to selection boxes, and from bounties (both the chocolates and political ones) to balanced budgets, join us as we explore how the world—and Ireland—may be on the cusp of monumental change.
