In this thrilling sequel to Hooked, the secret leaders of a deadly cabal prove to be a veritable match for the determined reporter and the insightful surfing detective who double down to expose them. Investigative reporter Katrina Chopin is back home in San Diego on a mission (or two). The first is personal: reheating the cold case of her parents' murder and investigating her brother's reported suicide. The second involves a new spate of deaths with alleged causes that just don't smell right. She and Detective Ken Goode need each other's help for both. But she has to keep the sexy surfer at arm's length, because dating him is off limits. For now. Teaming up, they make coordinated progress down each path. Digging deeper into La Jolla's corrupt network of elites, they uncover a pattern of lies, depravity, and greed. And with every new discovery, Katrina is pulled closer to danger…and to Goode. Sharing sexy phone calls and sunset drinks isn't exactly following the rules, but fully crossing that line could jeopardize the case. As they start to connect the dots, they realize they must risk everything to bring down the shadowy cabal that kills to keep its secrets. Out everwhere June 16th! James Lott Jr is the host of the show!
Washington Post columnist and Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen joins Brian Kilmeade to break down why a potential weekend ceasefire deal with Iran could be a disastrous lifeline for the regime. Thiessen sounds the alarm on Trump's "deal addiction," arguing that stopping the conflict now leaves the Iranian military on the 20-yard line with a $300 billion reconstruction fund to rebuild their forces. Instead of giving in to panic from the Gulf States, Thiessen details why the U.S. must finish the job and completely crush the regime. Learn more about your ad choices. This week's Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report covers a busy tournament weekend, a strong nearshore snapper bite, and a wide-open inshore pattern around Dauphin Island. Butch Thierry is joined by Dylan Kiene to preview a weekend full of events, including Hooked on Fairhope, the Ben Dunham Tournament, and the Triple Tail Fly Fishing Classic, while also talking through the heavy grass, clean Gulf water, and what that may mean for triple tail, mahi, and other species riding the Sargassum. Capt. Spencer Kight of D.I. Reef Monster checks in live from the Gulf with a snapper report, explaining how the nearshore bite has been on fire, why live bait and new jig setups are both producing big fish, how grass is affecting trolling and boat operation, and why anglers need to be ready for surprise mahi showing up around the boat. Capt. Tanner Deas of Dauphin Island Fishing wraps things up with a report from the Mississippi Sound, the beach, and the rivers, covering clear-water trout on croakers, dead-bait "snobbling" tactics, flounder on Z-Man plastics and Texas Eye jigheads, early triple tail opportunities, and what anglers should watch for during a crowded weekend on the water. Pastor Johnson breaks down this sermon into 5 points.1. Trust, Preservation, and God as the Ultimate SourcePsalm 16:1–3 — Trust and Preservation: Pastor Johnson expounds on "Preserve me, O God" (Psalm 16:1), emphasizing God's protection in an unpredictable world. This preservation is likened to salting hams or canning to prevent spoilage—God keeps believers from "going bad." Trusting God as a refuge alleviates worry and provides safety.Recognition of God as Giver: Based on Psalm 16:2, Pastor Johnson asserts that all blessings—houses, cars, children—are gifts from God. This echoes Job's declaration, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away," promoting gratitude in both abundance and loss.National Heritage of Faith: "In God We Trust" on U.S. currency reflects America's religious foundations, built by pioneers who trusted God for their sustenance and future.2. Personal Testimony and Gratitude"If It Had Not Been for the Lord": Pastor Johnson recounts growing up in a rural shack with minimal clothing and worn-out shoes, contrasting this with current blessings to underscore God's provision—and the conviction that life would be "messed up" without Jesus. The Tommy Johnson Story: Pastor Johnson was repeatedly misidentified as "Tommy Johnson" in high school, who received accolades meant for him. Though Tommy was voted "most likely to succeed," he later died from drug addiction—a reminder that earthly predictions are fallible and life outcomes depend on following God's plan.Gratitude as a Pathway to Blessing: Pastor Johnson teaches that God loves grateful people and that an appreciative attitude leads to continued favor. Cultivating gratitude positively affects one's outlook and outcomes.3. Commitment and Identity in ChristLiving by Faith (Galatians 2:20): Pastor Johnson cites Galatians 2:20 ("I am crucified with Christ... yet not I, but Christ liveth in me") to explain that the Christian life is Christ living through the believer—rooted in His love and sacrifice.Being "Hooked on Jesus": Devotion to Christ is described as being "stuck on Jesus"—a lifelong commitment that makes returning to a life without God unthinkable after having "tasted" His goodness.Trials as Formative Experiences: God allows hardships—like a child learning to walk—as necessary for growth. He may permit struggles but will not leave believers down. "I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread."4. Being on God's Winning TeamThe Sports Analogy: Life is compared to a competition with winners and losers. God never loses—like a doctor who never loses a patient or a lawyer who never loses a case. Believers should want to be on "the Lord's team."Staying on the Team: Just as teams trade underperforming players, God may remove the uncommitted. Staying on His team requires "playing hard" through prayer, fasting, and seeking God's help with personal struggles. The responsibility lies with the individual.God's Validation (Psalm 56): Psalm 56:9 ("When I cry unto you, then shall my enemy turn back") confirms God is for us. His response—financial blessing, improved health, or removal of negative influences—is proof of His support.5. Practical Spiritual CounselPrayer for Daily Preservation: Pastor Johnson advises praying "Lord, keep me" before work, school, or travel, acknowledging life's unpredictability.Dealing with Negative Influences: Believers should call on God when facing opposition and create healthy boundaries—following Jesus' example of telling negativity, "Get behind me." Surround yourself with people who bring joy, not strife. The Blessing of Gathering: Citing Peter's statement, "It is good for us to be here," Pastor Johnson highlights the value of worship in helping believers avoid conflict and receive God's word.We hope you enjoyed this sermon.Join us this Wednesday at 630pm for our MidWeek Refuel. On this month's Alcohol Alert podcast, we spoke to Professor Nicholas Carah about the fast-evolving world of digital alcohol marketing - and why it matters. As debates intensify globally around social media regulation and even bans for young people, the conversation couldn't be more timely.Professor Carah explains how digital platforms have transformed marketing into something far more powerful and personalised: “The more people participate, the more data they generate… you get this loop on digital that you didn't have in earlier forms.”He also highlights the risks of highly targeted advertising for addictive products, noting that these systems are:“built to tune into who are the high-volume consumers and show them more ads.”The episode explores how this intersects with rapid delivery services, regulation challenges, and harm.Later this year, IAS will be publishing a film on digital alcohol marketing, continuing to shine a light on this critical issue. "The Hooked Model is a way of describing a user's interactions with a product as they pass through four phases: a trigger to begin using the product, an action to satisfy the trigger, a variable reward for the action, and some type of investment that, ultimately, makes the product more valuable to the user." Since the Supreme Court allowed states to legalize sports betting 8 years ago, the industry has exploded with over $160 billion dollars legally bet on sports last year … especially with the introduction of mobile and online sports books. Many claim the legalization has allowed betting on teams, and even individual players, to not only become the new normal, but an accepted part of sports culture. Some experts claim this normalization, along with the online accessibility, and marketing centered around sports betting, could be leading to a health crisis among young male adults – a group who are reported to have the highest sports gambling rates. Dr. Phil speaks with Mason, a 21-year-old college senior who is a popular sports betting influencer who says although he believes the industry targets young adults, particularly colleges students, he says it's unfair to blame the sports betting industry for gambling addiction. Dr. Phil will also speak with Dustin, a young man who says betting on sports started off as innocent fun, but then snowballed into a powerful addiction that saw him betting nearly a quarter of a million dollars in just 3 years. Now, Dustin says it's been 212 days since he last placed a sports bet, find out how betting sobriety has changed his life. Plus, Dr. Phil will speak with Kyle, a college student sports journalist who knows the topic of sports betting on his college campus well. Find why Kyle says prop betting on an individual athlete's performance is very popular among college students.Thank you to our sponsor:Everyone says they'll record their family's story “someday,” but we all know that usually means never. Visit our Substack for bonus content and more: https://designbetterpodcast.com/p/nir-eyal-returns If you want to understand how much your beliefs shape your reality, try this quick exercise. Google the “checkerboard illusion” below and you can witness first-hand that even when you know two squares are the same shade of gray, your brain still refuses to show you the truth. If it can't get a simple shade right, imagine what it's doing with everything else. In his book Hooked, Nir Eyal helped people build habit-forming products for good. Then he wrote Indistractable to help people break free from the ones that weren't. But after years of hearing from readers who knew exactly what to do and still couldn't make themselves do it, he realized something was missing from the equation entirely. His new book, Beyond Belief, argues that motivation isn't a straight line between behavior and benefit — it's a triangle, and the third side is belief. The convictions we carry about ourselves, our abilities, and our circumstances quietly determine what we see, what we feel, and ultimately what we do. In this conversation, we dig into why your brain actively resists changing its mind, how the placebo effect is reshaping what we know about pain and performance, and what all of this means for designers and creative thinkers navigating the uncertainty of AI. Nir also gets personal about living with ADHD and dyslexia, stage fright, and how a single reframe — not a new fact, just a new belief — changed the way he experiences all of it. Bio Nir Eyal is a globally recognized authority on behavior change and human potential. His frameworks have empowered millions to build better habits, enhance focus, and unlock greater agency in their lives and work. A former lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, Nir has collaborated with leaders and organizations worldwide to boost performance through behavior design. He is the New York Times bestselling author of the international bestsellers Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products and Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life, which have sold over one million copies in more than 30 languages. Hooked was a finalist for the 2014 Goodreads Choice Awards. Indistractable won the 2019 Outstanding Works of Literature (OWL) Award and was named one of the Best Business & Leadership Books of the Year by Amazon, Audible, and The Globe and Mail. His third book, Beyond Belief: The Science-Backed Way to Stop Limiting Yourself and Achieve Breakthrough Results, became an instant New York Times best-seller and reveals how to identify and replace the hidden beliefs that define our limits. *** This ad-supported episode is available to everyone. Hello! This week we have a fun, off-beat episode for you about fishing. Why does Tyler put on a wetsuit and go float around in rip currents to find some rock to squat on and fish? What are ethics of this sport? What land use issues effect it? Why is the future hope of the Democratic Party all these new Gen-Z Birders? We talk about all this with our guest Jerry Audet, the managing editor of the fishing magazine Surfcaster's Journal and the co-host of the Surfcast Podcast. His writing and photography has appeared in just about every fishing publication you can name. And he is the author of Hooked, an anthology of fresh and saltwater gamefish. You've read the book. You nodded at every page. And then you changed absolutely nothing. Sound familiar?Nir Eyal helped Silicon Valley build the systems that capture your attention — then turned around and wrote the books on how to fight back. Hooked became the playbook for habit-forming products. Indistractable showed you how to resist them. And now Beyond Belief cracks open the real reason most men read all of it, agree with all of it, and still don't change. It's not discipline. It's not information. It's belief. Specifically, the stories you've been telling yourself about who you are, what you're capable of, and whether change is actually possible for someone like you. Nir calls them limiting beliefs — and he spent six years researching how to replace them with something better. This one hits different if you've ever blamed your ADHD, your past, your upbringing, or the algorithm for the gap between who you are and who you know you could be.IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:Why 90% of distraction isn't your phone — it's a feelingThe motivation triangle: behavior and benefit fail without beliefHow a diagnosis becomes a cage — and how to break outThe man who almost died from a placebo overdoseRichter's rats: how one belief produced 240x more persistenceWhy to-do lists are broken — and what to do insteadFREE RESOURCE FROM NIR:5-Minute Belief Change Guide — nirandfar.com/beyondbeliefliveFOLLOW NIR EYAL:Website & free resources: nirandfar.comBooks: Hooked, Indistractable, Beyond Belief — AmazonGo Deeper here are Three Supporting EPISODES FROM MTM:Ep. 92 — Overcoming ProcrastinationEp. 121 — Managing Your Mind: How to Kick Out Negative ThoughtsEp. 138 — Curiosity Is Key to Breaking Men Free from Judgment and RuminationFollow MTM: SUBSCRIBE - Thursday Three Things or Text MTM to 33777: newsletter.focusnowtraining.comFREE Training Content or Corporate Workshop: focusnowtraining.comMore Episodes & Resources: mentalkingmindfulness.comCoaching with Will: willnotfear.comBook Jon to Speak: jonmacaskill.comCo-produced by Robert Lopez | cratesaudio.comHosted on Ausha. Book Club Podcast: Fiber art veterans Susan Bateman and Melissa Parsons compare notes with host Anne Merrow about the books every weaver, spinner, knitter, and crocheter should have on the bookshelf—plus big news about a classic weaving directory. They're the first books you reach for, the ones you'll never part with, and the first thing you recommend to every new crafter. If you have only one book on weaving, spinning, knitting, and crochet, make it one of these. In this episode of the Long Thread Podcast, three book lovers talk about what reading material we'd never be without. Multishaft Weavers Technique Books Learning to Weave by Deborah Chandler The classic book on four-harness weaving, this updated edition includes clear and approachable explanations, illustrations, and instructions for warping both from front to back and back to front. Weaving for Beginners, Revised and Updated by Peggy Osterkamp Another look at weaving fundamentals, Osterkamp's thorough book is especially strong in back-to-front warping. Pattern Directories Big news for “The Green Book”—A Handweaver's Pattern Book by Marguerite Porter Davison The first version of Davison's four-harness pattern directory was published in 1944, and weavers have been hunting for used copies since it went out of print decades later. A group of weavers has been quietly working on a major new edition, with new samples woven in color and contemporary drafts, which Schiffer Publishing will release in 2027! Handwoven and Yarn Barn of Kansas join the crowd of weavers eager to add the new book to our shelves. A Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns from the Friends of Handwoven, edited by Carol Strickler Organized by structure and endlessly browsable, this is the book 8-shaft weavers keep within reach when dreaming up a new project. Rigid-Heddle Weavers Ashford Book of Rigid Heddle Weaving by Rowena Hart A thorough guide to the fundamentals, this is unbeatable for its step-by-step warping and threading photography. Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom by Syne Mitchell This creative and ambitious book shows you ways of weaving that you never thought possible on a rigid-heddle loom. The useful "tech support" section offers troubleshooting suggestions for common mistakes. Knitters Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book Clear, well organized, and full of photos and illustrations, this book has taken more knitters from scarves to sweaters than any other, with basics on everything from individual stitches to garment design. Principles of Knitting by June Hemmons Hiatt For the knitter who wants to understand the mechanics behind every technique, this reference book dives deeply into the hows and whys of every knitting topic. Crocheters How to Crochet by Sara Delaney Small, affordable, and exactly right for getting started. The Crocheter's Skill-Building Workshop by Dora Ohrenstein Once you're past the basic stitches, this book teaches you construction, shaping, texture, and other intermediate and advanced topics. Spinners The Spinner's Book of Yarn Designs by Sarah Anderson Friendly, comprehensive instructions for yarns from simple plied yarns to complex layers of twist and grist. Don't be fooled by the textured yarns on the cover—this is not just for art-yarn spinners; Anderson's studies on durability and suggestions for use make this a must-have for any spinner. The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook by Deborah Robson and Carol Ekarius The Field Guide to Fleece by Deborah Robson and Carol Ekarius Not just for spinners, these fiber resources—the one always on your bookshelf and the smaller version you take to a festival—include details about the sources, traits, and uses of more animal fibers than you ever knew existed.
