They say life can't always be, Sunshine and rainbows. Tough times are part of the plan. Pressure and adversity shape us, And stretch us beyond belief, They force us to expand. But may we not dismiss, The beauty of the rays, That illuminate all that is good. May we not forget, The colors that display, That make us feel assured. When life feels so heavy, When anxiety rises up, When your mind is racing so fast. Breathe in real deep, Let pure air disrupt, The light inside is vast. JOURNAL PROMPTS: Before Bed What are the “sunshine and rainbows” in your life right now? Write down all that is good. In the Morning What are 3 things you're grateful for this morning? How can you bring some sunshine and rainbows to others today?
Hold On Pain Ends: Naomi Gilmour: Motivational Speaker, Business Woman and Suicide Prevention AdvocateIf you are lucky enough to live into mid-life and beyond, you will likely have experienced some profound loss. My guest this week, Naomi Gilmour, has taken the brave step of facing the debilitating grief of loss and, in the process, rebuilt her sense of self and now shares her learnings with others. Before we recorded this week's episode Naomi and I went for an early morning dip in a lake. It was pouring with rain, but a beautiful rainbow lit the sky when the clouds parted. Rainbows are especially symbolic for Naomi, and we both believed that the spirit of her beloved brother, Nick was there with us at that moment. Please put your hand on your heart and allow yourself a slither of happiness as you listen to Naomi's story. Naomi and I discuss How diversity and loss have shaped Naomi's understanding of her purpose Stripping back the layers to recover a sense of self and heal. How Inner work has connected to who Naomi is, what she is here to be and what brings her joy and making no apology for this. Finding purpose in pain and creating an impact. The Importance of being alone and cultivating inner peaceLoneliness; learning to be alone and silence the mind. The importance of stepping backMaking time to reframe work The fear of what people think and getting over external judgement and validation. The importance of self and inner peace and how looking to the outside won't make you happy. The Big Mates discuss upside-down ducks, left turns, electronic music, and Kid A by Radiohead.Adam, Steve, and Lucas continue their deep dive into the career and discography of Radiohead by tackling their highly divisive fourth album Kid A. They talk about the writing and recording process, the context surrounding the songs, and offer up analysis, opinions, and thoughts from three differing perspectives on music, from being deeply into analysis and music, to not caring for art or critique, and everything in between. They touch on how the band forced themselves to create music differently, the influences they were taking on board at the time, and the huge pressure that comes with following up an album often described as one of the "greatest of all time."They also find time to discuss the nascent days of Napster, Radiohead's "big tent" tour, and they listen to the scariest song they've yet to encounter! How do you follow enourmous success? The era of shady business practices continues it seems in the Hollywood world. This time it's not just WB involved, but their own "distinguished competition", at Marvel that's up to no good this week. Rolling Stone released a piece on the Snyder Cut movement, identifying 13% of the online activity being attributed to bots. This on it's own is not big news, as it was largely known, but it's the timing of the piece that's most questionable. Over at Marvel, they're up to their usual tricks of not properly compensating comic book creators, now being accused of "bait and switch" tactics to stiff writers and artists when their characters appear on the screen. Julian and Jeremy break down both stories, while also diving into a plethora of more lighthearted fare, including: news on 'Mortal Kombat 2' and 'Top Gun 3', a Powerpuff Girls animated reboot, a fun "Agree of Disagree" segment, and much more on this week's Tower of Babble Podcast!
Welcome to Tulsa Talks presented by Tulsa Regional Chamber. On this episode Libby Billings reflects on 14 years operating downtown restaurants. She discusses the current state of restaurants more than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects on her career path to date. Libby also talks about her efforts in revitalizing downtown Deco's District and how far it's come, plus more. Following that conversation, hear a new single from OKC-based hard rockers Sisteria, which is releasing their debut album Aug. 19 on Horton Records. Hear them live Sept. 23 at Vanguard in support of Rainbows are Free.

How do we get the way we do? How do we get so judgmental with wild opinions of everyone else? Is it television? are we just mimicking what we see? How about our parents? My parents didn't have a lot of empathy or they would have been able to see how behaviors effect children and they would have worked like Jason Borne to train us for the upcoming Zombie apocalypse and the book or revelations in the bible. They would have seen that shit totally coming. However my parents were born in the 40's and their parents were borne in the 1800's and as you can imagine they came from a time of war and oppression. You couldn't make yourself a millionaire if you tried you had to be born into that kind of luck. Now people are awakening much faster people are sharing their perspectives and letting others know everyone can be right! Autonomy is great because it means in the world of the self you can do no wrong! woman sharing with women all those stories helping women to see how freeing being more authentic can be other women see the real real. The absolutely real world not the one conjured up by television and the media! However you have to make a lot of mistakes to get there and are they really mistakes? I think we should all try to see each others perspectives and learn from each other and if your story doesn't jive with someone else's then move on to the next chapter of you life! Have you ever asked yourself why you love what you love? Are you yearning to express yourself creatively? Need tips on developing discipline to support your passions? JoAnneh Nagler is a multi-talented artist who expresses herself through music, writing, painting, and teaching yoga. In our interview, we explore: how everyone is creative, and that creativity is simply making something that didn't exist before the importance of creating dedicated time for the activities that are most important to you (JoAnneh inspired me to start prioritizing and honoring my creative endeavors, instead of just "getting around to them" when I found the time) how to discover your unique form of art/joy/creativity; how are you wired? what are you drawn to? what sparks your joy? Artist Portrait: “Y, a self portrait”, 2019 4 x 5 x 1” Oil and enamel on panel Alexandra Noel (b. 1989) currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She graduated with a BA in Visual Arts from the University of San Diego in 2011 and a MFA from Art Center College of Design in 2013. Alexandra Noel's small-scale paintings reveal uncanny assemblages of images. She concentrates on things depicted in a manner somewhere between surreal and familiar: newborns, home objects, and suburbia landscapes. She incorporates these aspects into far-flung imagined landscapes, tragic scenarios, and reinvented cinematic moments. The little panels hint at the size difference between human bodies and electronic devices. She zooms in, crops, stretches, and rescales her little panels as if they were images on screen. The audience is invited to view them from a very intimate perspective. Meanwhile, she emphasizes the tension between being sculptural and illusionistic. As a painter, Noel establishes a linguistic parallel to the dystopic and magical themes of her works by writing fiction that resembles the tone of poetry or a movie. Alexandra Noel lives and works in Los Angeles. Greetings, Leaders. Life and career are fast-moving and ever-changing. Each of us needs a proven strategy to build safeguards on our journey to prevent us from becoming overwhelmed. What is your strategy for protecting yourself from being overwhelmed? An IBM intern shared with me his strategy. "Time management, big to-do lists, step back now and then to relax between requirements helps relieve the stress and keep your cool." He shares that "taking time to decompress, organize my thoughts and plan things out helps me see there is enough time to get done what's important." The essential attribute I sense while listening to him is "attitude." We can color every area of our lives, our whole personality, through our attitude. Our circumstances and what happens are not always of our choosing. But we can choose our attitude toward each situation. Attitude starts in the heart of great leaders. We see it emphasized in quotes attributed to great leaders. "As a person thinks in their heart, so they are.""Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.""A cheerful heart has a continual feast.""A happy heart makes the face cheerful.""A discerning heart seeks knowledge." What we allow ourselves to think matters. Here are three words to consider as you build your strategy against being overwhelmed on your life and career journey. Outlook: The IBM intern has an optimistic outlook. He believes that he can grow through the circumstances he faces. He shares his colleagues' recent boat trip on the Charles River in Boston. "We had a great time; it was raining, but it didn't matter. In the end, we saw a rainbow that caught everyone's attention." Rainbows! Train your mind. Look for the rainbow as a sign of something new, promises made, and victories ahead. Let it remind you to color each day with your attitude. Perspective: "I am just learning that it is good to be uncomfortable. That is where growth occurs. It goes back to being growth-minded. It helps you know you are on the right path and empowers you." Focus: He practices gratitude for the good things in his life by writing down three things he is grateful for each day. We remember what we write down. What we allow to dominate our thinking will affect our attitude. Leaders have an opportunity to encourage others and share how they can protect themselves from the enemy named "overwhelming." Follow the example of the IBM Intern and great leaders throughout the centuries. Fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. As he talked about his journey, he encouraged me to "Stay in attack mode. Then you are never on your heels." Let's encourage others even more!Victory!

We learned that commenting on the pace of a game in progress is as bad as saying “no-hitter” in the midst of one, and get called “Karen” for noting that a combined no-no is different from a no-no. We launch into the SCOTUS rant that you knew was coming, but don't worry, we deftly tie it to baseball and provide a checklist of specific actions including standing up AND sitting down, and being like Lauren. Pottymouth loses another boyfriend due to character flaws, we get a “Let's Go, Jeter” chant at Fenway that we can get behind, and Patti remains stuck with Adley's mustache because you don't mess with a streak. Hell has frozen over as we agree with Buck over Dusty. Pottymouth proposes a qHar bracket. We introduce you to Proud to be in Baseball, founded by Bryan Ruby, which supports LGBTQ+ ballplayers in high school, college, and beyond. Rainbows appear in LMB (the Mexican baseball league) and we learn non gendered vocabulary words in Spanish! The Venezuelan Women's baseball semi-finals concluded this weekend, with Pottymouth noting 3 women umpires, and the ability to watch games on YouTube. Patti shares the joy of the pressbox during collegiate summer league games. We say “Super spreader bat mitzvah,” “Even the mustard is gay,” and by popular demand, “Anzoátegui.”Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Denver has always been home to revolutionary movements — Chicano civil rights, disability justice, and the fight for LGBTQ+ equality have all played out here across decades. For each of those movements, geography plays an important role, like Capitol Hill, where queer people found refuge, support, and community. Ahead of PrideFest this weekend, host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi join comics artist and historian B. Erin Cole on a walking tour of Cap Hill, as seen through a queer historical lens. B. Erin has researched and illustrated a map with markers from the State Capitol to Cheesman Park — but it's the flipped homes, demolished buildings, and long-gone bars in-between that tell the deeper story of the neighborhood's vibrant LGBTQ+ history. B. Erin Cole's illustrated map of queer Capitol Hill can be found as part of History Colorado's Rainbows and Revolutions exhibit, on view now. Find more of B. Erin's work here. In today's City Cast Denver newsletter, producer Lizzie Goldsmith has a roundup of summer theater events. What themes are present on this album? Can it possibly live up to the hype? Has our perception of the album changed over 25 years? Every Monday we go around the room and ask everyone ...how was your weekend?
We got a special episode for you today talking about RAINBOWS - of pests and vermin, lol. Check out the wide variety of parasites the world has to offer.
From whitewash (the paint) we got whitewashing (the covering up of misdeeds) and from there greenwashing, redwashing, bluewashing, purplewashing, pinkwashing - and now rainbow washing, where companies will put Pride flags all over products and posts during the month of June, but behind the scenes will not necessarily be useful - and sometimes they'll be anti-useful. Mitra Kaboli, host of the new podcast Welcome to Provincetown, helps sort the real allyship from the rainbow-washing; and writer Sarah Schulman, who popularised the term 'pinkwashing', explains the more political meaning of that word. This episode contains some swears. During an October vacation, another battle with chronic pain forced me to spend the first few days recovering in our room. My mood became as overcast as the sky. When I finally ventured out to enjoy sightseeing at a nearby lighthouse with my husband, gray clouds blocked much of our view. Still, I snapped a few photos of the shadowy mountains and dull horizon. Later, disappointed because a downpour tucked us in for the night, I skimmed through our digital pictures. Gasping, I handed my husband the camera. “A rainbow!” Focused on the gloominess earlier, I’d missed out on God refreshing my weary spirit with the unexpected glimpse of hope (Genesis 9:13–15). Physical or emotional suffering can often drag us down into the depths of despair. Desperate for refreshment, we thirst for reminders of God’s constant presence and infinite power (Psalm 42:1–3). As we recall the countless times our Lord has come through for us and for others in the past, we can trust our hope is secured in Him no matter how downcast we feel in the moment (vv. 4–5). When bad attitudes or difficult circumstances dim our vision, God invites us to call on Him, read His Word, and trust His faithfulness (vv. 7–11). As we seek the Lord, we can rely on Him to help us spot rainbows of hope arched over the darkest days. Hallelujah!
Nikki & Brie catch up after a hectic weekend that saw them experience very different weekends. Nikki had a difficult time moving into her new house after some unexpected bumps after a great work trip to Nashville. Acknowledging that her people-pleasing ways might have created a frantic moving experience, Nikki has vowed to stick up for herself and her family without hesitation moving forward. But Nikki is flowing freely now after some clarity and cleansing. Now there's nothing but sunny days ahead for Nikki and her family. Brie's weekend trip to Anaheim to celebrate Birdie's fifth birthday was a great trip, but it wasn't flawless either. But motion sickness, cranky drivers, and broken rides wouldn't stop Brie and Birdie from having a great weekend together. And Brie beamed when telling Nikki about an airport surprise. A little distance didn't stop Bryan from pulling out all the stops for Brie on Mother's Day, and Nikki's Sunday didn't go to plan after such a wild weekend with a big move after Matteo's nap schedule was derailed and could only be fixed with donuts and cheesy puffs, which leads to a great discussion about when and where to give into toddlers. Nikki also shares some exclusive details about her new game show with Blake Shelton and Carson Daly on USA Network and The Bellas reflect on growing up on a farm and love of Country music, Shania Twain, and Gwen Stefani. This leads Nikki & Brie to highlight some stark differences between the two of them growing up. Closing things out on today's episode and connecting with their country roots, Brie chooses a Dolly Parton quote for this week's Inspiration & Affirmation.Follow Nikki & Brie on Instagram for exclusive clips from this episode, and tune into The Bellas Podcast Instagram page every Friday at 12p EST/9a PST for an IG Live with Nikki & Brie!
